Not so stealth boast but i have just run for 8 miles around the woods. I am fat, obese according to the bmi bullshitometer.

I am feeling very proud of myself. i have gone from 15 to 13 stone and still on a diet of sorts.

I am blatantly boasting but i just want to put it out there to other people like myself (and people that see a fat person and assume they are just lazy and greedy)
That just because you are bigger doesn't mean you can't run. Im only 5ft 3in so when i say fat i mean fat but i am fairly fit compared to colleagues and i run at the speed of snail but i can do it and if i can do it.....

I also have mh issues but exercise (along with counselling and life going my way a little bit more ) has helped me come off meds.

It took me a long time and a lot of self loathing but i feltit was now or never. im 46.

This thread has made me smile all night actually. When I drunkenly signed up for the GNR I had only just had my DD, was 6 stone overweight and had never run before. I had problems with my knee getting going and had to rest it, which resulted in only 9 weeks training. But I did it. And I will never forget the feeling of crossing that finish line.

Just because we are fat, does not mean we cannot do it. I am still very overweight, but I have a very active, physical job and do 6-7 hours hard exercise a day. I can run a mile in 10 mins, which may be slow for some but is still a mile.

OP, you are fantastic. You are not an overweight runner, or a 'fat' runner, or even a lucky how the hell did I get here runner. You are a runner. Well done.

MargotFenring · 27/04/2017 21:12

Hello from another fat runner here!!! I run 7.5 miles 3 times a week and weight train twice a week with a PT, but still a fatty. 3 stone overweight fat. Not a pretend fatty, seeking reassurance, an actual one. My arse is wobbly and lumpy and huge, my tummy is wobbly and big, I can't zip winter knee high boots up over my fat calves.... But I do it. Because like you, I feel proud and it keeps my mental health in check.

silkybear · 27/04/2017 21:14

Stealth away! Well done. You are an inpiration to chubsters like me! Wink

Rockhopper81 · 27/04/2017 21:37

Well done you - definitely an inspiration to me!

I'm...significantly...overweight and feel I have a plan going forwards with the food side of things (I have been suffering with anxiety and depression for a few months now, but I finally feel like I'm starting to slowly improve), just need to get the activity side sorted.

Time to sort out the sports bra I think (big boobs are a nightmare when exercising...)

Well done again - boast away, you're awesome! Star

DeriArms · 27/04/2017 21:40

Well done OP!
I started running a couple of years ago. Started small....did 3 miles, then 4 miles, then 5.....last week did a 16-miler and am alive to tell the tale! Keep going, look after your knees and your feet and who knows what you can do.
You're awesome!

DeriArms · 27/04/2017 21:42

Oh - and I started off fat but am not so much any more! Enjoy it and all the benefits it brings you.

FeedMeAndTellMeImPretty · 27/04/2017 21:47

Fantastic LEM well done! That's a pretty bloody major achievement.

Have a read about HAES health at every size. It's an anti diet culture that promotes being happy with what your body can DO rather than how it looks and having a positive relationship with food. It doesn't mean you can't lose weight, but just that weight loss comes as a natural consequence of mindful eating and happy movement rather than miserably starving and torturing yourself. Sounds like it could fit really well for you. I've recently become a convert so tell me to stick it if you're not interested!!

It sounds like you are enjoying the running which is great - nothing worse than exercise as torture.

Love what you said to your doctor too, bloody hypocrite Grin

TheoriginalLEM · 27/04/2017 22:14

Thank you so much everybody. i actually feel abit overwhelmed by the responses.

Well done to all you other runners out there, it is a fantastic thing and the sense of freedom is amazing. I am so very lucky that i have the choiceof the coast or countryside to run in. I get anxious running with lots of people around so if i run on the beach its either in winterr or early in the morning so todays run was special as for most of the run we saw nobody and no lycra clad running clubs Grin

Im a bit sore now

yy to the body working for you and not worrying about how i look. Yeah im really quite fat and im dieting but im foing it for my health and wellbeing not to fit societies demands to fit into a size ten. Although it is nice to be able to buy vlothes in "nirmal" shops again. That's a whole other thread though about the quality of fatty clothing HmmGrin

Hooray! I have just signed up for a 5k in 2 months. I can definitely walk it, hopefully by then I will be able to jog some of it if not all. Thanks for the inspiration!

toffeeboffin · 27/04/2017 22:22

Good work lem.

I can't run for eight miles. I run after the kids occasionally and that puffs me out.

bruffin · 27/04/2017 22:25

Im considered obese, i can run for toffee, but couldnt when i was 7stone, so well done you
Iswam 5k last month, it took 2.5 hours but i regulary 2k 2 or 3 times a week anyone.
Most people do not believe i weigh whst i do, but had a bodytrax scan last week and it turned out i have a lot more muscle than fat and even my visceral fat is ok.

EmpressOfTheSpartacusOceans · 27/04/2017 22:25

I'm in awe, LEM. 8 miles is a bloody long way. Forget the stealth boasts, if I'd run that I'd be shouting! Congratulations you!

okilydokily · 27/04/2017 22:27

I'm a low BMI, and 36 years old. I do yoga, body conditioning and i go to the gym once a week. But I can't run for more than a couple of miles without stopping. I just can't run. I wish I was as fit as you. Well done OP.

TheoriginalLEM · 27/04/2017 22:32

Tired i did the couch to 5k a few years back (its been a while since i got back into running and that really helped me) although i can't do the walk run thing as once i stop i can't start again. My dp says i should try for short bursts with walking but i can't stop Hmm I do run ridiculously slowly though. I do sometimes do the lamppost/bin challenge and think right ill "sprint"to that bin. It buggars my breathing though and i don't like getting out of breath as i panic.

Musictheatremum - i hope you manage to get on track again. i know how hard it us especially in your job where you are required to give people advice that is hard to follow. I have quite a physical job so it must be really hard doing your job where you are forced into sitting down all day. xx

I'm younger than you and in the healthy BMI bracket (just) and I'd struggle to run to the end of the road.

Well done OP.
