Not so stealth boast but i have just run for 8 miles around the woods. I am fat, obese according to the bmi bullshitometer.

I am feeling very proud of myself. i have gone from 15 to 13 stone and still on a diet of sorts.

I am blatantly boasting but i just want to put it out there to other people like myself (and people that see a fat person and assume they are just lazy and greedy)
That just because you are bigger doesn't mean you can't run. Im only 5ft 3in so when i say fat i mean fat but i am fairly fit compared to colleagues and i run at the speed of snail but i can do it and if i can do it.....

I also have mh issues but exercise (along with counselling and life going my way a little bit more ) has helped me come off meds.

It took me a long time and a lot of self loathing but i feltit was now or never. im 46.

I'm overweight (obese BMI) and a GP and recommend diet and excersise to my patients. I do exercise a lot and am fit. I hope I come over as sympathetic when I recommend it. I usually say I know it's hard and reference to myself when talking about it. I'd be really upset if one of my patients was rude about my weight to me. I have had issues with food for years and suffered from depression and really struggle to lose weight. Remember doctors are human beings too

Floweringjasmine · 27/04/2017 15:50

This is inspiring, good on you.

Poudrenez · 27/04/2017 15:54

Good work OP! I could do with losing a couple of stone. Nothing wrong with boasting, but for me this post is a good motivator. It's so tempting to throw in the towel.

FeralBeryl · 27/04/2017 15:54

Yerrrrsss! Star
Well done - boast away.
Have a nice hot shower and don't forget to do some stretches to cool down.
It's so amazing doing something you never thought you were capable of. Flowers

TheoriginalLEM · 27/04/2017 15:58

To be fair i was sat in front of this dr telling him i needed help as i was feeling suicidal and he printed off an exercise sheet so ordinarily i would have never been so rude. Idovtend to take diet advice more readily from a fellow fatty as they tendto understand. I have friends who eat like pigs and are stick thin, they kniw better than to comment Grin

Bloody well done!
I ran the great north run when I was 17stone. Did it in 2 1/2 hours. Not very fast admittedly but faster than sitting on the sofa!

EineKleine · 27/04/2017 16:16

I'm fat and can't run to the end of the road. Thank you for the inspiration LEM.

TheoriginalLEM · 27/04/2017 16:18

You would have beaten me orlando!!

Einekiene - walking counts too Wink

Well done LEM! 8 miles is well over a 10k and on the way to a half marathon!
I'm same height, was V similar weight pre pregnancy and am a couple of years younger than you but once I've dropped this sprog and recovered I'm going to get back into running.

MiddlingMum · 27/04/2017 16:27

You are 4 stone heavier than me, and can run 8 times further. That's hugey impressive - in your favour, not mine Grin

Have you entered any races? You could get a few finishers medals to be proud of.

Howlongtillbedtime · 27/04/2017 16:47

You inspired me to get off my arse! I got in from work and was making up loads of reasons why I shouldn't go and do the 2 miles I was supposed to do and after reading this I went and did it .

Thank you I feel better for it .

And i really want to watch the mind over marathon doc tonight and knew I would feel a numpty if I had been such a lazy git.

stilllearnin · 27/04/2017 16:58

StarStarStar and Halo I too am an overweight runner. I have taken some time off running recently because I have depression and seem a bit scared about leaving the house on my own. I am going to get out there tomorrow and think of you. Thanks LEM

Musicaltheatremum · 27/04/2017 17:00

OP that's understandable. And sorry you're feeling so low. But well done all the same. I say to my patients that hopefully when they come back there will be less of both of us to see. The annoying thing is they come back having lost a stone and I'm still bulging over my trousers. It's so demoralising but I am my own worst enemy.
Food is a stress buster for me and I hide it. I ate a whole pack of 4 Choc ices (over 2 days so not too horrendous) and have had to buy the pack back again so my son doesn't know when he gets back from uni. Got caught out about the half vienetta in one evening though. I am actually going to start some counselling for help with this tomorrow as I'm so fed up with myself and as a health professional we should be practising what we preach so I feel bad that way too.

CazY777 · 27/04/2017 17:11

You are inspiring me to run again OP. I did the London marathon weighing 13.5 stone and was only 40 mins slower than when I did it the first time weighing 10 stone (probably could have gone a bit faster that time I suppose). So, yes it's definitely possible to be fit and fat. Well done.

Dawndonnaagain · 27/04/2017 17:13

Congratulations, you have every right to feel really proud of yourself!

BitOutOfPractice · 27/04/2017 17:24

Bloody marvellous op. Very well done! I don't care if you're thin, fat, old, young, whatever. If you can run 8 miles, I'm impressed!

Sirzy · 27/04/2017 17:27

Fantastic. Speed doesn't matter the important thing is you are out there doing it!

stumblymonkeyreturns · 27/04/2017 17:34

Brilliant. I'm inspired. I thought I should try to lose some more weight before I attempted running but am off to find a new sports bra on Amazon.

No time like the present!

Sirzy · 27/04/2017 17:39

Stumble I was 17 stone when I started running!

angieloumc · 27/04/2017 17:40

Wow! Well done you!

McPie · 27/04/2017 20:39

Shout it out loud and proud as you so deserve to be! Well done on your 1st 8 mile run and I'm sure it wont be your last one.
I'm over weight according to the BMI calculator which says I need to drop another 18lbs to be at the top end of normal! I run 30 miles each week, do 3 body pump classes with weights closer to the blokes as well as being able to do most of the harder options in 4 body balance classes whilst having been able to fit into a size 12 for about the last 2 years! As far as I'm concerned the BMI calculator can go get stuffed, I've been off anti depressants for 4 years now and don't hate what I see in the mirror now!
Speed is something you can build up over time but the main thing is getting out there and doing it and enjoying yourself in the process Smile

Trifleorbust · 27/04/2017 20:41

Hurrah!

Lockheart · 27/04/2017 20:54

Good for you! :) I'm size 8 and can't run for shit - I'd be done by a mile in! You have every right to boast.

Citizenoftheuniverse · 27/04/2017 21:03

Congrats, I'm a low bmi but not fit at all and can't run for toffee! I'd be thrilled by your running skills.
