Several of her friends have them. But I am convinced they are bad for growing bones and posture and gait etc. Am I, as dd tells me, the meanest mummy in the world?

They're a menace anyway, don't. Cannot stand seeing children whizzing round supermarket in them and having to dive out of the way, even when not heavily pregnant

And don't let her get away with getting anything just as her friends (apparently) do

KC225 · 26/04/2017 19:34

My DH took 9 year old out last summer and let him buy them with his own pocket money. I think he had had them on twice. He had roller skates (lessons) and ice skates so the leaning back motion is quite alien to him and he doesn't like it. Biggest waste of £50.00.

ineedamoreadultieradult · 26/04/2017 19:35

They are awful. Hard to use on rough surfaces like pavements so mostly get used in supermarkets and shopping centres. They are bad for posture and look uncomfortable to walk in.

kali110 · 26/04/2017 19:37

They are the work of the devil Angry

Railgunner1 · 26/04/2017 19:41

YABU

If you're so against heelys, at least buy her rollerskates Hmm

nakedandconcerned · 26/04/2017 19:46

I used to fit shoes in a previous job.

Yanbu.

So many 'fashionable' shoes for kids these days are bad for their feet.

Ericaequites · 26/04/2017 19:48

Most shops prohibit their use. They are not indoor toys. Old fashioned roller skates are easier to use at her age.

RedHelenB · 26/04/2017 19:54

My daughters loved their heelies first time round. YABU let kids have some fun they won't have them on 24 hours a day!

ProfessorBranestawm · 26/04/2017 19:54

YANBU.

I got DD proper roller blades for her 7th birthday instead. Took a while for her to get used to them but absolutely worth it (and cheaper instead at £20!) she is now super confident on them and thinks Heelies are boring because you don't actually get to skate :o much better exercise and a proper hobby to carry on into her teens and beyond

harderandharder2breathe · 26/04/2017 19:57

yanbu, there's so many places they can't use them because either they're banned or the ground is too rough, and they seem to take a fair bit of practice to get used to. Get her roller skates instead.

although when they first came out over10 years ago I was 21 and really wanted some

catsoup · 26/04/2017 19:59

My DD who is 7 has them and I hate them! When she walks on them she has to walk on her tip toes because the wheels don't retract into the shoe so bad for her posture.

She loves them but she's only allowed out to play in them and not when we're out and about. I think they're an absolute menace.

Lepetitmarsellais · 26/04/2017 20:00

Yanbu. Hell would freeze over before I'd buy DD6 heelies

MapMyMum · 26/04/2017 20:00

They are bad for posture etc as when they walk with the wheels in they need to walk on their toes and not place their heels down, it completely changes the way they walk. Also because they are worn in more places than rollerskates would be they cause more accidents.

Buy her fancy other shoes of her choice

EatDessertFirst · 26/04/2017 20:01

YANBU. They are awful. Bad for feet development and I've seen so many kids fall over in supermarkets/on the street as they can't control them. A couple even let their precious snowflake wheel around the pub I work in on a Saturday lunchtime causing spillage of drinks and one of my servers to get badly burnt trying not to drop a plate of hot food on the brat.
Get her roller skates and take her to a proper place to learn.

Crashbangwhatausername · 26/04/2017 20:06

Don't do it. I did, never get used apart from for the occasional tantrum because they're so hard to use. I want a pair desperately but too embarrassed

Blumkin · 26/04/2017 20:13

Take her to your local roller disco, get her interested in roller skating instead

UppityHumpty · 26/04/2017 20:33

Yabu my 5 yo neice loves them

MrsDoylesTeabags · 26/04/2017 20:42

I agree with PPs get her some rollerskates instead. Heelies are the sporn of the devil

MrsDoylesTeabags · 26/04/2017 20:44

Oh and just to add, if you are 'The Worst Mum in the Worldâ„¢' Then you're doing it right Grin

bunnylove99 · 26/04/2017 20:51

I don't agree with most posts here. They are great fun for kids. My 7 year old DD loves hers. They are great in supermarket and large shops and out playing on the street. She doesn't have bad feet, posture etc (what a lot of nonsense! ). She has never been told off for wearing them out and about, has never injured herself or anyone else in them. They are just good FUN. Or is that really not allowed any more!?

HarryPottersMagicWand · 26/04/2017 20:51

YANBU. I bloody hate them. Usually nearly get knocked over at the leisure centre by bloody kids in stupid heelys. DD desperately wants a pair (also 6), isn't going to happen. I'd rather let DS have the hideous Nike huaraches that he is desperate for.

I'm also not a great mum because DS's friends have phones and I won't let him and I also wouldn't let him go out to the field alone with his friend this evening. He is 9 and we don't live in the best area. No way am I letting him play out unsupervised yet. He was not impressed with me as I got the feeling his friends mum would have said yes to her DS if I had.

LittleLionMansMummy · 26/04/2017 20:53

Yanbu. I've told my 6yo ds the same. I've bought him roller skates instead.

HarryPottersMagicWand · 26/04/2017 20:53

No bunny they are not great in supermarkets and there are some places that aren't designed for precious snowflakes to have fun. Why does everything in life these days have to revolve around children and what they want. I don't want to walk around a shop and have to dodge a skating bloody child almost crashing into me. Hardly fun.

kirstxx · 26/04/2017 20:56

Funny enough I was in the supermarket earlier and I felt something brush my bum so I spun round to find a very embarrassed looking young boy that had obviously put his arms out to keep his balance on his heelies 😂 Poor sod look terrified that I was going to shout, I'm just glad he didn't fall!

EternallyVacant · 26/04/2017 20:56

YANBU I bought them for DD9 she wore them for 20 minutes fell over and broke her wrist in 2 places.
