To want to see my GP much sooner?

I've been having blood in my urine for two weeks now. It has got worse, and now every time I pass urine, it is bright red. No pain, no itching.

Saw Midwife yesterday, who tested my urine for obvious infections and it came back clear. The blood in urine part of the little strip thingy came back just about as positive as it could. Midwife says there isn't much the Maternity Team can do. She is a bit Hmm that there is no pain when passing urine.

Keep trying to ring GP reception for an appointment. Nope, nothing. Every morning I would wait and nothing would be available. Everything booked up. On Friday I did a self assessment form that you do on their website and it said if the GP wanted to see me, reception would ring within 24 hours. They didn't ring.

I called this afternoon to see what was going on. Receptionist said ''Oh, GP wants to see you. Can you make 23rd May?'' I enquired about a closer date and she said thats all that is available and to keep ringing in the mornings as something 'might' pop up.

I am so fed up. Yes, it probably isn't anything serious but it is alarming me. AIBU to want to see my GP much sooner?

For what it's worth, my GP Surgery was in the papers recently for being put under special measures.

Tiptoe She tested it with a dip test and then said she was sending it off, but also advised that the lab that test or whatever only do basic testing or what have you Confused

Telephone consultations are a nightmare. They never bloody ring back. Like Andy Tate, I've tried and I've tried.

EPU won't help me... I don't think. But I will give them a shot too. It isn't really pregnancy realted though, I'm just pregnant too.

Dancing I have phoned our local Walk In and they confirmed what my Midwife said.

When I had blood in my urine in pregnancy I was sent to maternity assessment unit the same day. I was further along than you, but I think under 20 weeks. They were able do more tests, turned out to be nothing but I had reassurance on the same day. Ridiculous system, I'd definitely look for a gp with a more sensible system, you'll need it when you have a young child.

GibraltarRocks · 25/04/2017 17:41

Lost How long did you have blood in your urine? Mine seems to be never ending and it has been two weeks (bit more actually), already Sad

Tbh, I think I would have gone to a & e the first time my urine was full of blood especially when pregnant.

TheSnorkMaidenReturns · 25/04/2017 17:45

That's shocking. You need to complain to your local Clinical Commissioning Group about the failure of your GP surgery to offer emergency appointments. This is truly crap.

What time do they release their daily appointments? You say they do 'first come, first served'? I would second standing on the door as they open and tell your work you have a medical appointment. If they refuse to see you go straight to A&E (wrong though that is).

Mysterycat23 · 25/04/2017 17:49

You're pregnant and passing blood in your urine for 2 weeks and gp won't see you? Do they know you're pregnant?

Call NHS direct, they can usually make an out of hours or emergency appt for you somewhere.

GibraltarRocks · 25/04/2017 17:49

TheSnork They don't usually have any on the day appointments, you hit the jackpot usually if you get one for 2 weeks time.

I can't keep standing at the door to be first in, because each time they send me away I would have to do the same again. Work would be a bit Hmm that I keep taking an hour or so away each morning, apparently for the same reason.

It's just pants.

Mystery Yes, they know.

Gibraltar sorry that didn't work, guess things are run differently in different areas, which is no help to you at all. Sorry.

fluffandsnuff · 25/04/2017 17:52

Does your hospital have an early pregnancy unit? Just wondering if they might be able to help.

Screwinthetuna · 25/04/2017 17:52

Go to the walk in. Happened to me and I had a kidney stone Flowers

You are passing blood! Can you speak
To your GP on the phone,
My surgery does this.

Tiptoethr0ughthetulips · 25/04/2017 17:58

If a UTI takes hold and then results in you being admitted to hospital that then becomes a risk to your pregnancy. I would seriously try MAC or EPU. I would also say it's worthy or a morning off work/ sick day to go and sit and wait at GP. If still no luck refer it back to your Midwife, I'm presuming she will get the lab report on your sample and GP too. If it shows infection advises antibiotics they need to act, but to be fair unexplained blood in urine warrants referral for investigation.

WineIsMyMainVice · 25/04/2017 17:59

I'm sure your MP would be interested to hear. That's appalling.
Good luck.

haveacupoftea · 25/04/2017 18:00

Fuck that OP. You're pregnant. Better to be a good mum than a good patient. Go to A&E! This is the one time in your life you don't have to feel guilty about it. That wee baby is depending on you.

MatildaTheCat · 25/04/2017 18:00

Are you absolutely certain it's blood in your urine and not vaginal bleeding? It does need to be assessed sooner than 23rd May. Your surgery sound completely overstretched but you need to make a fuss and get seen sooner.

If there is any doubt at all about the provenance of the bleeding it could be assessed at EPU.

Northgate · 25/04/2017 18:02

Have you tried calling 111?

I've had 111 get me emergency appointments at my GP surgery before when I've been unable to get one myself.

stopfuckingshoutingatme · 25/04/2017 18:03

fucks sake OP Sad

Call NHS 111 as advised, get their advice
if that's doesn't work get the details of the nearest Urgent care department (not A&E), and go there

so upset for you, can you change GP surgery??? In London you should be able to, I have a GO surgery that if you beg give a same day, change X

good luck

SomethingBorrowed · 25/04/2017 18:03

OP, in your situation I would go to A&E, it could be an emergency for your baby!

MycatsaPirate · 25/04/2017 18:04

I would call the 111 place but I'd be prepared to go to A&E. That's seriously worrying and could be anything from a bad UTI to a blood disorder.

Don't be fobbed off.

23rd May is bloody mental.

And this is why receptionists should be asking questions when you phone up despite people moaning about it. Half the time people could be seen by a pharmacist, practice nurse or just get a repeat prescription done over the phone rather than wasting an appointment slot.

GibraltarRocks · 25/04/2017 18:07

Yes it's 100% blood in urine as urine is bright red and not tinged/mixed looking as it probably would be with pregnancy bleed etc. Have also checked cervix carefully but quite a lot lately and always just milky mucus like normal during pregnancy. Also saw baby on Sunday at a scan and all is well.

I may just go A&E if 111 are no good. Seems so silly though to go when I'm as bright as rain within myself.

I've had similar issues but not as extreme as having visible blood in my urine - I've been in a lot of discomfort and suspected a water infection, my community midwife did a dip test and advised that there were indications of an infection and to make a GP appointment - I couldn't get one for 2 weeks and was just advised to go to A&E if I was "that bothered". In the end I called the pregnancy assessment unit and explained the situation, they took me straight in for a sample to be provided and submitted for testing, it may be worth approaching your nearest early pregnancy unit (assuming you have one) and asking for advice. I've certainly found that whilst GPs should provide appointments when pregnant it is always easier dealing with a midwifery lead service as the majority of the time you'll be referred to them anyway - HTH and you get sorted!
