I try to be organised and make sure my DD(3) doesn't get to the RAAAARRR HANGRY stage, but sometimes life intervenes or I miscalculate. Please, please share your top meals that can be prepared in minutes on the hob and/or microwave (heating the oven takes too long in this situation!) DD is in danger of turning orange from surfeit of beans/scrambled eggs/spaghetti hoops on toast!

4 and a half mins for those shop bought frozen jacket potatoes that I used to sneer at pre-kids!!

Welshrainbow · 23/04/2017 19:22

Steam fresh veg done in microwave chucked on an omelette.
Steam fresh veg dumped on a wrap, covered with chopped tons and cheese nuke or oven bake for five mins
Steam fresh veg stir fried with soy chucked on top of cous cous
Smoked mackerel on toast
Gluten free pasta takes three mins max to cook with cream cheese and salmon flakes mixed through with frozen veg.

Microwave veg is a staple in my toddlers diet Blush

It's a rare meal in which my toddler doesn't ingest some sort of frozen veg.

I just made tuna fritters with frozen sweet corn and peas and cheese. Went down v well with a bit of ketchup. And sweet potato mash - I did the potato in the microwave then scooped the inside out and mashed it with some milk and butter so it was instantly cool enough to eat. He ate it! Ds ingested a vegetable!

I reckon you could make the fritters in advance - tuna, some grated cheese, frozen veg that's had a quick blast in the microwave, mixed with egg and a bit of plain flour if the mixture is too funny, then fried. so then you've just got to do the potato which took 5 mins. Result.

Thanks mostly - genius!

Micro sausages, smash, frozen veg and gravy is my go to for when I'm in a real hurry.

Nicpem1982 · 23/04/2017 21:17

What's a micro sausage?

Do you mean a small sausage?

backtowork2015 · 23/04/2017 21:32

Mackerel and cous cous. 5mins to hydrate the cous cous. Boil peas or sweetcorn to mix in. Add tin of mackerel in tomato sauce. My kids both love it and I feel virtuous giving them such a balanced dinner.

MinesaLattecino · 23/04/2017 21:41

These things www.rankinselection.com/products/2/irish-potato-slims known as farls in our house but sold as 'potato slims'.

Can go under grill or toaster if you're careful, with an egg, ham, peas (blasted in the microwave) or beans, somehow more substantial than toast but not as bad as an oven chip, athough i suspect that's just in my head!

tooglamtogiveadamn · 24/04/2017 13:16

Cous cous always quick and easy go to! Pour on boiling water, cover with a plate and leave to soak for a couple of mind then lots of butter and some cheese. Feta if you're feeling adventurous and some frozen peas or baked beans.
Quick micro-rice and baked beans amazing combo.
Loving all your ideas

beckslovestimmy · 24/04/2017 13:18

Scrambled eggs with toast and marmite. Made in mins and demolished even quicker by DD 4 and DS 10 months.

Solasum · 24/04/2017 13:27

Tinned tomato soup, with cheese on toast.

Prawn stir fry, aka precooked microwave rice bag, microwave handful of frozen peas, fry frozen prawns for 3 mins then mix in the rest, splash of soy.

ShowMeWhatYouGot · 24/04/2017 13:57

Dippy egg and toast

Cheese and ham quesadillas

Some tinned orange thing on toast

Omelette

Cold cut meats, crackers and veg sticks

Pesto or cheesy pasta

Chicken dippers Halo

Cineraria · 24/04/2017 16:29

Crumpizzas: crumpets with tinned tomato and grated cheese and a few slices of mushroom and frozen sweetcorn.

Chickpea, red lentil and veg soup: tinned chickpeas, dry lentils and any veg with water and a stock cube for eight minutes in the pressure cooker and serve it with toast. Freeze any spare portions to serve later.

Spottyladybird · 24/04/2017 16:39

Poached eggs on toast
Eggy bread with a side of spaghetti hoops
A 'picky plate'- (whatever we have in the fridge) served with a wrap or toast.
Soup
Cheese and apple on toast

lozzylizzy · 24/04/2017 17:16

I so forgot about veg muffins from doing them when DS2 was babyled weaning! Must make a batch for DD to try! I might be able to pass them off for exciting when she gets back from nursery ravenous!

Crapuccino · 24/04/2017 20:49

No idea if this has been floated, haven't RTFT, sorry, but one strategy I use is to serve "courses". Panic not - it's nowhere as fancy or difficult as it sounds.

Course 1: Dice up a Babybell/lump of Mozarella/whatever, serve

Course 2: Slice up some blueberries/carrots, serve
Course 3: Get out some breadsticks/ricecakes, serve

Course 4: Boiling water on tablespoon(s) of frozen corn/peas, rinse till cold, serve
Course 5: Slice up waffles/fishfingers/whatever, serve

Tada. Five course meal and plenty of variety including dairy, carbs, veg, meat/fish/chicken/whatever, etc.

CheshireChat · 24/04/2017 22:55

One of my favourite sandwiches is with sliced boiled egg, apple and some cheddar or any other melty cheese all put in the sandwich maker or simply in a frying pan.

I also add cinnamon for me and DS, but I'd leave it out the first time.

MERLYPUSSEDOFF · 25/04/2017 10:07

My 2 (now 9) liked a toasted muffin with square cheese, fried egg and ham in. Egg was always a winner and I would do a micro scrambled egg with sachet/frozen rice and mixed veg. Fake egg fried rice. Dippy egg too.

Pasta and philly was a good one I seem to remember as was jacket spud with cheese and beans done in the micro.

Toaster pockets are your friend. Sausage rolls, nuggets, samosas(not for DT1 as it was too 'picy') and toasties always went down well.

Orange stuff in a tin with grated cheese on top. Soup and filled roll, despite the mess was good.

MERLYPUSSEDOFF · 25/04/2017 10:14

Also cheese and crackers. My 2 loved digestives and dairy lea.
