To ask what you did for your hen party?

Been asked by my bridesmaids what sort of thing I'd like to do for my hen party and I just don't have a clue. I'm not even sure I want one - might just go for a few drinks and maybe a meal. Inspiration ladies?!

By today's standards my hen party was very boring. We went out for a meal and then went into town and got very drunk.

Devorak · 21/04/2017 13:54

Me and 7 friends went to a local restaurant followed by a few pubs and then the hotel bar for cocktails until 3am. We stayed in the hotel overnight so there were no designated drivers. Local greasy spoon for breakfast and then home by lunchtime.

It's a nice tradition but I'm very judgemental about extravagant hen parties. Multi-day, costumes, cock-shaped straws, travelling to another country ....

Mind you, I'm also quite judgemental of extravagant weddings (relative to income) and there seems to be a strong correlation between spending barely-afforded money on a huge white wedding and divorcing fairly quickly after it. Those who don't feel the need to make it into a massive affair are happy in their relationships and continue to be after 'the big day'.

milliemolliemou · 21/04/2017 13:58

OP, what do you like to do and what can you all afford? Make sure everyone is truly committed and won't drop out because it's suddenly too expensive/too far to travel. Enough MN threads on that. Have a great time.

Banchan · 21/04/2017 14:02

Stayed in and had pizzas, movies, facemasks, old times talk, it was with friends I've had since school so throwback to the old sleepovers we used to have, cheap but lots fun Grin

Cocolepew · 21/04/2017 14:08

Got drunk on cheap wine beore we went out, sat in a chippy then went to a disco and danced around our handbags.
Hint, it wasn't yesterday

Sylvannas · 21/04/2017 14:12

Mine was awesome. My sister organised it all. Started off at her place at lunch time. There was a spread of food and alcohol and an art teacher...here's the twist. The art teacher taught us how to draw nudes, and he was also the live model.
It was so much fun! Then we hit the town afterwards.
Best day ever! (Apart from my wedding day of course! )

I had a weekend away in a cottage with a hot tub for mine, with about 15 friends.

Lots of prosecco and chilling out in the hot tub, and also did a nurder mystery night which was fun!

I think you just need to keep in mind the needs and other commitments of your party - with mine we were all childfree so going away for a weekend was doable for everyone.

PidgeonSpray · 21/04/2017 15:15

Went to an indoor ski type place. Did taboganning (so much fun!!) and also lazer quest. Then evening meal and comedy club followed by a nightclub. Loved it.

Raggydolly3 · 21/04/2017 15:24

Had a night out with a meal at a really good local venue and a dance £25 per head.

MaxPepsi · 21/04/2017 15:27

A day out in a city a low cost train ride away. I was determined it should not be a burden cost wise for my friends. There was no activities and no set pls.
Stayed fairly sober, came home and went round a few of our local pubs.

Whilst I did enjoy it I wasn't really bothered for it and I much prefered other people's to my own.

SheSaidHeSaid · 21/04/2017 15:30

Amsterdam for the weekend.

It got messy.

Rufus200 · 21/04/2017 15:32

We had a champagne afternoon tea at a posh hotel. We were there so long that they started serving dinner around us. Everyone had a great time.

SlideAway82 · 21/04/2017 15:33

I had mine about three weeks ago and 11 of us rented a villa in Marbella. It sounds expensive but flights were pretty cheap and we just bought a load of food and booze to have in the villa so no expensive meals out. Marbella is a top class night out too!

RuggerHug · 21/04/2017 15:34

Afternoon tea in a swish hotel. DM paid. I was pregnant so didn't want a night out of everyone around me getting pissedGrin

insertimaginativeusername · 21/04/2017 15:45

My own was also the cheese-fest of Butlins 90's weekend, but not everyone's cup of tea. Also had a spa/afternoon tea with my mom and older relatives.

Ones I've been on have included city breaks like Edinburgh & Dublin, city overnighters like Manchester and London, burlesque shows, cottage weekends and mini breaks to Marbella, Benidorm and Ibiza.

Allthebubbles · 21/04/2017 20:51

We had an afternoon picnic tea with fizz at my local park, went back to my flat for cocktails ( unbeknownst to me my bridesmaids had hired a butler in the buff to serve them- I got a big shock! ) and then went to the tapas restaurant at the end of the rd for the evening. It was great. There were about 15 of us.

arbrighton · 21/04/2017 20:54

Spa then pizza/drinks/ film at home.

Probably just as well since I ended up with a horrible gastroenteritis thing.

We'd been watching the film 'Bridesmaids' and I pretty well recreated it

ShakyMilk · 21/04/2017 20:57

Went out and got drunk with the women I love most in the world, family and friends. No costumes, no theme, no fuss. ❤

PugwallsSummer · 21/04/2017 21:07

Went to centre parcs. Had a chalet with a hot tub & sauna so we did diy beauty treatments, generally relaxed, ate the copious amounts of food we brought with us, had a swim, watched films and pottered about. It was wild! Wink

bigchris · 21/04/2017 21:08

Exactly this

Went out and got drunk with the women I love most in the world, family and friends. No costumes, no theme, no fuss. ❤

For the love of God no tacky salsa classes, spa days and centre parts IMO is for kids !

CelticPromise · 21/04/2017 21:09

Went gorge walking and had a posh pub meal and stayed in a hostel. It was bloody brilliant.

bigchris · 21/04/2017 21:09

By today's standards my hen party was very boring. We went out for a meal and then went into town and got very drunk

Not boring perfect imo !

Gillian1980 · 21/04/2017 21:12

Drinks at my house, all you can eat Chinese buffet, night out at a Caberet / burlesque club. Got home about 3am and slept a lot the next day.

I just wanted a fun night out with friends, nothing particularly unusual or extravagant.

eurochick · 21/04/2017 21:17

I didn't want a hen do. Two friends and I went to The Sanctuary once a year anyway. That year we just did it a couple of weeks before the wedding. It was lovely - friends, a massage and a glass of champagne.

StealthPolarBear · 21/04/2017 21:22

Don't worry op you won't find anyone on here who will admit to having amy thing extravagant. And God forbid a willy straw :o
