Apart from the DC (if you're lucky enough to have them) or something like doing all the laundry.

We hear of so many DHs on here who don't even make an effort on birthday's and Xmas that it makes you wonder if there are actually any that do bother.

What is the most special gift your DH has given you and what made it special? Was it the surprise or the thoughtfulness?

Or do gifts genuinely not matter at all to you?

When Spandau Ballet were famous in the 80s I loved them but was too young to see them live, even though I pestered my parents. I wasn't bothered about other bands etc so had never being to a live music concert.
As a suprise for my birthday my lovely DH brought 2 tickets for us both to go to their first tour when they got back together a few years ago (even though he wasn't a fan). I was blown away by the experience and even had a little cry. It was one of the best presents he's ever brought me.
Another lovely present was a cute song he wrote for me one Christmas about how much he loves me and Christmas - he sang it to me as I opened my presents.
I luffs him so very much.

We met and married within 9 weeks and so i didn't have an engagement ring. For first anniversary I was given a ring he'd designed himself (doesn't have a creative bone in his body).

In the days of music cassettes and walkmans, I was often given play lists he'd created

My (silly) but very treasured gift is a box of fossils collected from his hometown beach

Crispyturtle · 20/04/2017 17:49

An electric blanket Grin

I'm not even kidding, it's brilliant!

londonrach · 20/04/2017 17:53

Jellymuffin 😍

backtowork2015 · 20/04/2017 17:57

A sat nav. I kid you not, it was genuinely the most thoughtful gift ever. It was back in 2002 when they were brand new and super expensive. It changed my life Grin

PragmaticWench · 20/04/2017 17:59

He took an old odometerfrom a car similar to my classic car and added clock hands to make me a bedside clock. With the mileage counter on it, he reset the numbers to show our wedding anniversary.

I love that he put thought into it and surprised me, even if the components cost almost nothing at an autojumble.

This has warmed my frosty old heart

When the kids were young, no money!

Agreed a token £10 present. Leading up to xmas OH not coming to bed, I'm worried he's going off me...blah blah!

Christmas Day I opened a box with 10 plaster of Paris beach hut shapes all painted different coloured stripes!

It was the most wonderful thoughtful gift in the world ever. I absolutely love beach huts.

The thought, the effort and the care were phenomenal!

25 years on they are still perfect and take pride of place. My children will love to have them after we're gone.

He was up half the night making and painting them. Hence not coming to bed!!

He spoils me rotten. There's two favourites, I loved a pair of celine sunglasses but didn't buy them because I couldn't be arsed to get my prescription in them and thought it would be a faff. I've always struggled to drive in the sun and absolutely cannot wear non prescription lenses! He ordered them, had my prescription done and surprised me with me them.

The second one, he sent me some flowers to work with a truly heart warming note. I saved the card and will keep it forever. The flowers were a gift (sort of) Grin

Love this thread.

DH bought me a scarf. Scarves are a thing for us - I was cold on our first date and he lent me his - I was really touched, it was three years since I'd been in a relationship and had never been with someone who would do that kind of thing. I lose things a lot and i'd lost my own scarf that meant a lot to me before we met. Early on in our relationship he just handed me a new one of the same type because he knew it would please me, I was blown away. 13 years later I still wear it every winter.

DH isn't great at getting gifts but there's always a first...

Sometime in Oct/Nov I mentioned I'd always wanted the sheet music for one of my favourite film musicals but I'd never been able to find it. I knew he'd had a bit of a google for it but then I forgot about it.

Come nearer Christmas and a parcel turned up. I didn't look but knew what it was. Sure enough, he'd managed to find the music for me - with original annotations on the reprinted pages coz that was the only version available Smile

I'm still disappointed that I guessed before Christmas what it was he'd got me. It would have been truly amazing as a proper surprise! I love the songs sooo much.

TheSnowFairy · 20/04/2017 23:06

Diamond stud earrings. Got them for my 30th, worn them every day (for 15 years!) Smile

skerrywind · 20/04/2017 23:10

Swiss Army Knife.
I use it a lot- keep it in my handbag.

EastMidsMummy · 20/04/2017 23:12

DH commissioned my favourite artist to paint our house.

That sounds like a very practical gift if your house needed painting. I would have preferred my favourite artist to paint a picture of the house instead.

GemmaB78 · 20/04/2017 23:24

Two favourite gifts so far!

A flute. I'd mentioned in passing once that I'd always wanted to learn. He presented me with one for my birthday a month later. But it was much more than the flute. I joined a band shortly after we moved to a new area and I was feeling very isolated and lonely. The practice, concerts and friends I have made with that flute have gone a long way to making me so much happier.

The second is a collage of pictures of beautiful landmarks in the place we left to move here. I was (still do) miss it dreadfully, and having the pics to look at cheer me up no end.

AllFurCoatNoKnockers · 20/04/2017 23:35

Favourite was a trip to New York, I had been desperate to go and I still remember his face when I opened the envelope with the booking info on it.
He's not particularly great at gifts generally. He did amazing this Christmas - because I wrote him a list.

TheFrenchLieutenantsMonkey · 20/04/2017 23:48

Not birthday gifts (I get gadgets because that's what he wants) but random things.
A little miniature rose because they were the same shade as our bridesmaids dresses and they made him think of how lovely I looked as a bride.
A flower that was the same as one that grew outside our hotel room door on honeymoon.
Really good headphones because I listen to tracks for meditation and mine were uncomfortable.
A film on DVD I loved as s child and reminds me of my grandparents because I was lonely and missed them.
And my favourite a tiny pair of white gold and diamond earrings that he bought me after we'd been seeing each other for 10 days (it was my birthday). I'd never had anyone buy me diamonds before and it was quite overwhelming but he told me i was worth more than he would ever afford. Sniffle Blush

alltoomuchrightnow · 21/04/2017 00:26

A Tomtom, three years ago, for my birthday (we'd only been together two months, although we are old friends)
I have no sense of direction and was always getting lost.
So it's given me so much freedom, I can go all over the place, and saved me so much in time and petrol.
Best present ever (from anyone) - it's given me security and confidence too

Littlelegs19 · 21/04/2017 00:53

Over the years DH has bought me some Brilliant gifts and has only got it wrong once. My two stand out ones were a few years back and he bought me these black leather boots from Tommy Hilfiger I had been asking for, for about a year. I couldn't believe it and might have cried I was so happy!
The second was my Easter present this year. I have been looking for short circuit on Blu ray for a few years and resigned my self to the fact it didn't exist. DH had tracked it down and gave it to me Easter Sunday. I was over the moon!

steff13 · 21/04/2017 04:49

This. This isn't my exact necklace; I'm wearing mine. But, he bought it for me for my birthday in 2003, and I've worn it every day since.

To ask about your favourite gift from your DH?
Degasinacar · 21/04/2017 05:19

When we first started dating he bought me a pair of Cath Kidston sneakers. I said I liked them when we were wandering through on our second date but I was saving for my daughters school uniform. He messaged my sister on facebook to get my shoe size and surprised me with them the next week. I wore them to death but I will never forget him handing them over.
He also brings me Parma Violets whenever he sees them as he knows I adore them. I'm never without a pack in my pocket because of him.
