Our bigly armada is...somewhere! Watch out, gentleman! Trump cont..

As the armada appears in waters nowhere near where it was said to be, Trump blusters on in his usual dignified, courtly manner. Easter weekend had us worried about nuclear strikes; DT put a fair bit of work into his golf swing. Business as usual! Carry on, everyone!

Teens charged with a hate crime for burning Trump sign

How on earth is that a hate crime? Seems like a perfectly rational response to current circumstances.

Lweji · 20/04/2017 19:06

What lie?

illegitimateMortificadospawn · 20/04/2017 19:17

South Korea dismisses #Trump's remark that Korea was "part of China."

I guess it is, in the same way that the USA is part of Canada.

cozietoesie · 20/04/2017 19:24

It shows how much (i.e.hardly any) history he knows.

illegitimateMortificadospawn · 20/04/2017 19:25

I will now admit my ignorance. I have absolutely no idea what the Korean war that the US got involved in during the 50s was about. I am off to wikipedia now to get the bare bones.

Don't read about Truman's relief of MacArthur, illegitimate - an earnest recommendation.

Wasn't Iran part of China at some point?
At the time of the Khan?

From Reuters:

U.S. Representative Jason Chaffetz, the Republican chairman of the House oversight committee, said on Thursday he has not ruled out leaving before his term finishes, the Wall Street Journal reported.

"My future plans are not yet finalized but I haven’t ruled out the possibility of leaving early," Chaffetz told the Journal a day after the Utah congressman announced he would not run for re-election in 2018.

Utah state officials have begun making plans for a special election to replace Chaffetz in his heavily Republican district, the newspaper reported, citing Lieutenant Governor Spencer Cox.

Another special election Shock

Maybe we could just leave it for the Mongols to sort out the Middle East.

If he doesn't even finish his term..............Well.

I appreciate that you don't know for certain, Pain.

originalbiglymavis · 20/04/2017 19:32

That was Scotland. When it was still attached to Greenland I think. Before the English sawed it off and stitched it to Northumbria (ex part of northern Italy, obviously).

Don't any of you know your history?

cozietoesie · 20/04/2017 19:35

Do you think anyone has told 45 that America and Russia will likely be joined together again in the fullness of time?

OK - I grant you that that's a fair way off (250 million years give or take) but still............... Grin

illegitimateMortificadospawn · 20/04/2017 19:41

I grant you that that's a fair way off (250 million years give or take) but still

Honestly, if Donny boy had his way I think he'd still like there to be a Trump in the White House when it happens. Perhaps that's why he's be so earnestly cultivating relationships with the Russians. Wink

And with the UK upcoming election, can someone tell me if I have this right?

You all don't actually vote for the PM. Rather, you vote candidates belonging to a particular party (Con, Lab, LibLab etc). Then the party with the most seats in the Commons decides who they want to be PM. How does the party with the most seats decide who's name will be submitted. Do they vote, is it by committee?

So you have the 'ruling' party and the 'opposition' party. That would be like our majority/minority parties?

US: We elect the President. We elect the Senators/House Members.
UK: You elect members of Commons. They 'elect' the PM?

My future plans are not yet finalized but I haven’t ruled out the possibility of leaving early," Chaffetz told the Journal

This is politico-speak for 'I think they've got the goods on me but I'm not really sure. I may be forced to/need to resign so I better start dropping hints to smooth my way out".

cozietoesie · 20/04/2017 19:55

Actually, I think it's politico-speak for 'They've got the goods on me but I haven't yet found out how badly it will hurt me'. Wink

cozietoesie · 20/04/2017 19:58

A front runner usually 'emerges', Across. But Yes, in theory, each party votes on their leader.

This is an extraordinary attack on a federal judge's right to do his job by a sitting AG. Completely inappropriate. www.cnn.com/2017/04/20/politics/kfile-sessions-psychoanalyze/index.html … pic.twitter.com/WH1spvZZLx

illegitimateMortificadospawn · 20/04/2017 20:22

Usually there is a leader in each party before the election who has been elected by the peers, party members and constituency groups. If the party commands a majority, the party leader becomes PM by default. It is unusual for the winning party's leader to be replaced just after an election unless they are a cowardly little worm like that moron Cameron. In the losing party, it's fairly common for a poor showing at the polls to lead to a leadership challenge.

illegitimateMortificadospawn · 20/04/2017 20:23

Their peers (in parliament/the party). Peers is also a proper term for the politically appointed representatives and hereditary peers in the House of Lords.

Lweji · 20/04/2017 20:58

UK: You elect members of Commons. They 'elect' the PM?
It ends up being a mixture. People already know who the leader of the party is, so sometimes they may vote for a specific representative or more because of the party leader.

The system can also elect a government without a popular vote majority.

BREAKING: Multiple police sources say Paris shooting could have been armed robbery attempt

Lweji · 20/04/2017 21:03

But I came here to report that according to Mattis, Iran is single-handedly responsible for worldwide terrorism, and... for keeping Assad in power. Hmm

Sorry, can't link to it as it was in my local news. But it was on a visit to some Arab country. Possibly Saudi Arabia.
