Conservative are obviously going to win. What's the point in doing this now?

Hard to see how JC could be any more of a laughing stock than he is already, flying ... though to give the guy his due, it doesn't stop him trying

WoodPigeonInFlight · 18/04/2017 12:36

Dictator May will then be able to do whatever she likes

You mean if the Tories win and she remains as Prime Minister? Is there something confusing about the difference between dictatorship and democracy? (Hint: it's to do with voting)

NotALottaPot · 18/04/2017 12:37

No, this is about all those people who deliberately vote for the tories. It's not a vote against corbyn, labour, snp, lib dems etc etc. It's a vote for tories, for their policies. If you vote for tories, you are accountable for the horrors they inflict on this country because your vote is just saying yes I agree with what the party has done so far and yes I want more of the same please.

roarityroar · 18/04/2017 12:38

I predict that we will lose a few seats in SW London. Kingston & Surbs, Twickenham.

Tory majority, a fair one.

Shame Farron is as charming as a wilted lettuce. Cleggy was lovely to watch.

TreeTop7 · 18/04/2017 12:38

Labour will get smashed.

Several hard-working Labour MPs will lose their seats. It's a shame.

roarityroar · 18/04/2017 12:39

Oh Jesus. Get a grip NotaLotta. We aren't all ogres who want to drink the tears of the poor. Some of us believe the NHS needs reform, as did benefits and we are taxed too much already.

WoodPigeonInFlight · 18/04/2017 12:41

averylongtimeago

She is a cynical bitch

You sound lovely. I'm sure you'll be able to convince people to vote the way you want them to by throwing round sexist epithets at TM. Well done.

nauticant · 18/04/2017 12:41

To the posters asking about difficulties in repealing the FTPA, this is interesting:

IisaIambe · 18/04/2017 12:42

The great thing about politics NotaLotta is that we're all entitled to an opinion along with our vote. I'm not a Tory fan, but I have no issue with people who are. We all have to choose the party we consider the best of a bad set of options, and accept that sometimes our opinion isn't the one the majority vote with. It's frustrating, yes, but that's democracy. If you don't like it, there are plenty of authoritarian regimes in the world to choose from.

NotALottaPot · 18/04/2017 12:42

So basically you agree with their policies and would like more of the same please.

Don't look too hard at national polling.

UKIP have support but its evenly spread across the country. The electoral system means they are extremely unlikely to ever break through that. I think they might win a couple of seats at the GE but compared to how they are polling they won't get the seats to match it.

The LDs by contrast tend to be concentrated in small areas. Anywhere that was LD in 2010 has potential to go yellow if its now blue. I don't expect them to regain all those seats but I would expect them to get a fair percentage of them.

Is there a reason to vote Lab if you are a remainer? It depends on where you are in the country. If there is no LD presence there at all, voting LD might not be helpful and could let the Conservatives in through the back door.

The Tory strategy will be about saying that the LD and Labour would be a poor choice for the country. They will try and steer clear of Brexit to a degree but will push the idea of stability. It will be about May v Corbyn.

Labour will try (and will fail) to make it an anti-austerity ticket. The policies are popular with a lot of voters but that counts for nothing because of Corbyn. To my mind, Corbyn won't survive the blood bath that will happen, so if you like the policies there is a reason to look past him.

The Conservatives will also try and hinder Scotland by making it about being anti-IndyRef2 there.

Try not to be sucked in too much by the propaganda. Think about what you want for the country and how you might get that most. POLICIES not PERSONALITIES. Now more than ever. Brexit is not just about whether you like it or not, but if it happens what type of Brexit you get.

Vote FOR something. Or if you can't do that, what you think is the least worst option.

There will also be moves to demotivate people from voting. Particularly women and young people amongst others. Look for them. Spot them. Who is doing it? Why?

Labour will be heavily reduced, but they still have some bloody good MPs who work bloody hard regardless of all the division within their party on their special interests (Hello Jess Phillips. For exactly the opposite reasons as the next fella I'm going to mention)

Equally have a look at how bad your MP is. If you are in Shipley do get rid of Philip Davies. I can stomach some Tory MPs on an individual level, but his chauvistic and anti-women agenda is something special and would make a few Kippers look like feminists.

I'm far from a feminist, but the election will have a profound effect on women in particular. There are other issues, I could name great MPs for: Norman Lamb for the LDs and his work on mental health for example.

I don't think this is an election for tribal colours and thinking. Break out of it.

blaeberry · 18/04/2017 12:43

Farron seems to be supporting staying in the single market not the EU.

worriedmum100 · 18/04/2017 12:43

Tim Farron has just knocked spots off Corbyn in an interview. He sounded positive, forthright, passionate, organised. Everything Cornyn didn't convey. Sigh.

CoolCarrie · 18/04/2017 12:45

No one denies the NHS needs to b sorted out, but the Tories aren't the ones to do it, in a fair and appropriately . I would rather cut my hand off than vote Tory! Thank fuck I don't live in the UK now, Corbyn is a joke, with his stupid Lenin style hat, Abbott is a hypocrite, May is a piece of work, and it was like the turkeys voting for xmas the last time.

The80sweregreat · 18/04/2017 12:46

its a bleak time all round.
i wouldnt like to be a labour mp

NotALottaPot · 18/04/2017 12:47

Yes of course everyone gets to vote for what they want but gets on my nerves if people say they're voting against someone or something. No, you're voting for something, not against. If you support tories then you vote for them. I'm entitled to think their policies are mostly inhuman.

WoodPigeonInFlight · 18/04/2017 12:48

Too many sadistic bastards in this country who will be voting for more poverty, division, unequality, cuts and privatisation. Why why why why would anyone in their right mind ever vote for tories? How can you support their inhuman policies??

Oh, who should we vote for then? I know, I'm going to vote for people who have been calling me a stupid racist for the last 10 months. They will represent my interests, won't they?

shellhider · 18/04/2017 12:50

A lot will depend on where you live/vote. If it is a "safe" seat for one party, anyone who doesn't support that part will have their vote totally ignored anyway.

That doesn't mean that you have to support the party that is 'safe' though. Vote for who you want to win not who you think will win.
Oh, and decide for yourself and don't be swayed by others; I was told to vote for the same party as my parents they still try to tell me this as otherwise my vote was wasted Hmm

CoolCarrie · 18/04/2017 12:50

Well, we are certainly living in interesting times...

Biscuitsneeded · 18/04/2017 12:50

I don't think this is an election for tribal colours and thinking. Break out of it.
This is good advice. I'm a Labour voter with a Labour MP who works hard. But I am still going to vote Lib Dem for the first time since the Iraq War because even if I can't reverse Brexit I want it to be as soft as possible, and I don't think Labour stand a chance, so LibDem it will be.

WhenSheWasBadSheWasHorrid · 18/04/2017 12:50

If everyone on the left and everyone who doesn't want brexit gets behind the Lib Dems then there is a small chance we can get the Tories out. I think we all need to forget about Labour for now

haven't seen the Farron / Corbyn interview. I really hope Tim did well.

TinfoilHattie · 18/04/2017 12:50

Fuck me could Sturgeon be more hypocritical???? "May is acting in the interests of her own party and not of the country as a whole".

Pot. Kettle. Fucking black as the ace of spades. Hideous, hideous woman. Hope they lose a lot of their seats.

The80sweregreat · 18/04/2017 12:51

Nobody will trust the lib dems i'm afraid, that boat sailed a long time ago, even if they fight this election on the basis they can take us back in!

The only party for Europe seem to be the Greens and the SNP, thats how i see it. This is Corbyn v may , as others said, and May has a lot more on her side. ~She knows it and Corbyn knows it.
