to ask what your DC eat for breakfast?

I'm having trouble getting my six year old to eat anything for breakfast. The past few days it's been just a multivitamin and a yoghurt. She used to eat toast and fruit but is fed up with toast now and no longer wants fruit at breakfast time. She doesn't like anything cooked like eggs and won't try any cereals. What do your DC eat?

My DD eats porridge or weetabix but she is only 13 months old. Smile

Muchtoomuchtodo · 17/04/2017 21:56

What about crumpets or muffins? Both good with peanut butter on top and some sliced banana

Pancakes aren't as time consuming as I always think they will be. Sweet or savoury fillings

Would she have an omelette?

Nothing wrong with a sandwich for breakfast if she'd eat it.

dementedma · 17/04/2017 21:57

Nothing. Ds is 15. I've given up trying.

CheeseQueen · 17/04/2017 21:57

Mine eat porridge, or cereals such as weetabix, Shreddies or rice crispies, and also toast.
They also love -
hot cross buns
croissants
brioche (I only ever buy this occasionally though as I don't really like them having chocolate for breakfast Smile )
Toasted bagels, try with cream cheese or pieces of salmon
pancakes (ready made if you're in a rush)

Yogurt is great. Can she have fruit too?

Iloverichtea · 17/04/2017 21:58

How about banana pancakes? Mashed up banana, whisked egg and baking powder, fry into a pancake - ridiculously easy. I know you said she doesn't like anything "cooked" but might be worth a try.

Hoptastic53 · 17/04/2017 21:58

No she doesn't like any pancake/waffle/muffin/crumpet products

Weetabix or porridge on school days, often with a slice of toast.

Weekends they have crappy cereal (coco pops are their latest fad) and pancakes.

They also love home made crumpets, which are so easy to make.

Hoptastic53 · 17/04/2017 21:59

She doesn't eat eggs so pancakes are out Sad

-toast
  • cereal
Banjopluckface · 17/04/2017 22:00

My dcs love fried or scrambled egg on a muffin with smoked salmon

My favourite is porridge with frozen raspberries added - they quickly defrost in the hot porridge and taste gorgeous.

StillDrivingMeBonkers · 17/04/2017 22:00

Some people don't want to eat when they first wake up. I haven't eaten breakfast since I was a pre-schooler. Nothing will make me eat until I've been awake 3-4 hours.

Can she take something for break time snack? Fruit etc?

TiredCluelessMummy · 17/04/2017 22:00

DD is only 10mo but she has porridge (either plain or with fruit puree) or if I am having eggs (usually a couple of times a week) then she will share that.

PaperdollCartoon · 17/04/2017 22:01

CheeseQueen not all brioche has chocolate in, it's not an essential ingredient of brioche.

Could you pimp up the yogurt with sliced banana and some nuts or seeds?

SidekickSally · 17/04/2017 22:02

My 9 year old DD is currently having a couple of hotdog sausages, a yogurt and some cucumber. She goes through phases. Sometimes she has a bowl of baked beans. Sometimes she has a ham wrap. The frozen croissant are handy.

BellaGoth · 17/04/2017 22:02

My 4 year old has recently taken to eating my granola. Hmm

Otherwise he'll Have:

Crumpets
Pancakes
Croissants
Cereal
Toast
Fruit
Porridge
cinnamon and raison bagels

Sometimes just one of those things, some days a selection

PaperdollCartoon · 17/04/2017 22:02

Or any fruit actually, doesn't have to be banana (banana is what I have)

123rd · 17/04/2017 22:02

Mine go thru phases. A few weeks they will both eat pain au Choc , next few cereals, then toast or ready made pancakes. What about those breakfast biscuits.

MsJamieFraser · 17/04/2017 22:02

Ds2 will have anything he eats for tea left over, or will have rice flake porridge with oatnmilk and BU berries.

Muchtoomuchtodo · 17/04/2017 22:03

Overnight oats? You can vary the flavour.

PumpkinPie2016 · 17/04/2017 22:04

Weetabix and roast - although that doesn't solve your problem!

Ilike am this - very little I can tolerate for breakfast!

Cereal bars? I know they are sugary but at least it's something.

Rice pudding? I occasionally have rice pud if I need a decent breakfast.

Would she do cereal with yogurt? I used to do this because I don't mind the cereal but can't stand milk.

Homemade granola?

Maybe different tinned fruits to vary it a bit?

Cheese and crackers.

Is it maybe too early when she is being asked to eat breakfast? Is there any possibility of her having it later - I arrive at work early just so that I can eat something because I can't stomach it before that.

honeylulu · 17/04/2017 22:04

Some people just aren't breakfast eaters even as children. I wasn't and my mum gave up trying.
My kids aren't fans either especially first thing in the morning.
They eat well the rest of the day so I've learnt not to agonise.
they happily ate chocolate for breakfast yesterday

SleepFreeZone · 17/04/2017 22:05

Porridge here with frozen berries, agave and chai seeds.

Rainybo · 17/04/2017 22:05

Yoghurt is a good enough breakfast. I have it myself as I can't stand milk. Will she have cereal and fruit in her yoghurt?

WhatHaveIFound · 17/04/2017 22:05

My DC used to have cereal every day but they have botg recently been having other things. These include...

pitta bread & hummus
fruit & yoghurt
beans on toast
toasted bagels/bread
sugar free blueberry muffins
pancakes or french toast (weekend only)
