DS is 26 months and fir the last two days and today has refused his lunchtime nap. He normally has a nap from.about 1pm to 2.30pm but we've had him saying No and get out when he's gone into his cot. Is this the end of the naps or just a phase? X

3 next month and still naps, the odd time she will miss it.

Weareboatsremember · 17/04/2017 21:33

Dd still naps for between 1.5 and 2 hours every afternoon, and is 4 in September. I don't know how I'll get anything done when she drops them! She's been at preschool since September last year and is absolutely exhausted so goes to bed at her childminder's every afternoon for the same length of time too. She sleeps 7.30-6.50 at night too (I fully appreciate how lucky I am!)
I'm heartened to see that some children still nap over the age of 4. I hope dd is one of them!

5, she'd come home from school and have 45mins, even now at 7she will have the odd hour during the holidays.

My 22 month old seems to bordering on dropping naps. I am so not ready!

thismeansnothing · 17/04/2017 21:54

Dd is 5 and come Sunday she'll still have an afternoon nap cos she's wrecked from a week of breakfast club/school/after school club then swimming n dancing on the Saturday

Before school she never slept at nursery (started at 9 month) but thur/fri when she was home with me she'd always have a long afternoon snooze

BrandMombie · 17/04/2017 22:39

Naps stopped at 18 months for us. DS (currently 2.5 years) starts preschool in January, and I'm hoping the naps will start again then Wink

MumsKnitter · 17/04/2017 23:02

4yrs and 11 months. He was at school, and still came back and went for a nap for 90 mins, then off to bed at 8.15pm.

doge · 18/04/2017 07:08

Is t normally a gradual thing when they stop napping? Like they nap for less and less each time or something? I'm scared about it being ripped away from me!

GinIsIn · 18/04/2017 07:11

My DH is 34 and will still happily nap for 60-90 mins a day. Hoping my DS will get this from him! Grin

momamama · 18/04/2017 08:02

DD1 was 18 months to beautifully coincidence with my third trimester of DD2 pregnancy! DD2 was still napping at nursery at almost 3 but pretty much stopped at home at 2 3/4. DD3 is 18 months and still very much napping so i wouldn't think she'll stop before 2. Temperament and quality/length of night time sleep are what makes he difference I think.

Haudyerwheesht · 18/04/2017 08:10

Both of mine had just turned 3. Ds barely slept at night though and only had 40 minutes. Dd always just loved sleeping.

farfarawayfromhome · 18/04/2017 09:29

i live overseas where children start school at 3/4 (!).

the first two years they do 730/1230.

a lot of my friends with 4 and 5 year olds say that their kids get in from school at 1 and fall face down into bed and nap for 2 hours solid. I’m so hoping this continues to happen for me!

CassandraAusten · 18/04/2017 09:36

doge In my experience (3 DC) it's more likely to be gradual in that they nap some days and not others, rather than the nap length getting gradually shorter. Napping some days only can be frustrating, as it's less predictable so you can't plan things around it. Also, you often start to find that on the days they nap, bedtime is tricky. So it is sort of gradual but not in a very helpful manner!
