To think it isn't 'choccy egg day'

Overheard in supermarket this morning. Mum happily telling moaning DC that if they didn't stop the choccy egg bunny won't bring them anything for choccy egg day.

I know not everyone is religious. But given the name 'Easter' isn't exactly loaded with religious connotations, AIBU to think renaming Easter 'choccy egg day' is just ridiculous?

YANBU. Even for those who are not religious, there are so many customs and traditions associated with Easter. To reduce it to 'Choccy Egg Sunday' is really shallow and vapid.

User1485342611 - we are not religious. To us the Bible is a story - made up in the same way as the Easter bunny and fairy tales. We have our own traditions - at Christmas it's time for lots of parties, proscesso, presents, good food and family time. At Easter it's days off work, a big lunch and far too much chocolate.

"Genesis creation story is allegorical.".

Well it is for some people. For others it's literal truth. And for others it's just a creation myth among many other creation myths-all cultures have them.

@MaisyPops

I certainly haven't made a single sarcastic comment. I'm not a militant atheist. I'm certainly anti-theist but more from a pitying perspective than militant.

I think religion(s) are ridiculous (and much worse besides) but I haven't ridiculed either.

Faith and theology are extremely binary as opposed to nuanced. Those who hedge their bets and suggest that some parts of the bible are literal and others not lose my respect for the courage of their convictions but are likely to be nicer people. Those who think the entire bible is "this is the word of the lord, Deo gratias . etc." (Catholics, I'm looking at you) are likely to be the misogynistic bigots but I do admire a certain strength of belief.

You are becoming the allegory of the pigeon playing chess which is a shame as I neither ridiculed nor was sarcastic. I think I just asked a few questions to which you have no answer or, at least, none which makes sense.

If I had a spare hour, I could give 100 "individual moments" which wouldn't sound out of place in a Third Reich speech. If the bible needs a deep understanding of anthropology then it's a shame your god wasn't more of an equal opportunist / egalitarian man.

If you'll continue to engage, I'd love to tell me how you rationalise those truly terrible bits of the bible which are apparently to be read in historical context with those that stand up to modern moral scrutiny such as love thy neighbour unless they work for the Inland Revenue.

NewUserName, I cordially invite you to research Catholicism, because there is a lot more to what the RC church is about than you seem to be aware of.

Specifically look at the term Prima scriptura.

A discussion of the OT and how it would be a huge mistake to disregard it.

This might answer some of the questions you have; if not it might at least be thought provoking.
