AIBU- to not understand all the Michelle Fowler hate?

Well the title says it all really. I think the actress is doing her best to play a difficult story line which I'm finding very enticing if I'm being honest. IMO I think it's one of the better storylines eastenders have had lately and would even go as far to say the new Michelle is better than the original!

It's a soap. You are hardly going to get excellent acting in something so humdrum.

Have never seen her. Just making a general observation.

I've not watched EE for years (decades) but happened to see last night's episode as I was at my parents.
I had NO IDEA who these people were meant to be, so this thread has been a revelation to me.

I quite like NuMartin but can't warm to NuChelle. She was such an iconic character, she can't be easily replaced. the story is terrible her accent just sounds wrong and the flasher mac is daft, why would she even own a raincoat in Florida?

I stopped watching when fake Michelle was sitting at the allotment reminiscing with fake Martin about their childhood. Yay. Michelle was an adult when he was born, they didn't even share a childhood.

I remember Susan Tully when she was in Grange Hill too, she's an actress around the same age as me so I feel like I've known her since my teens and she moved seamlessly from Grange Hill into eastenders. Same perfect acting for the characters she played.

This new actress is absolutely dreadful, I don't know if it's a combination of the silly storylines or her wooden delivery but it doesn't work at all. She just seems to stomp around with a scowl on her face wearing the same awful mac.

I think it's Jenna Russell's acting and whiney voice that puts me off. Can't sympathise with her situation at all and it's up to her to bring me on board - she doesn't.

'Sonia' was amazing last night and actually acted 'Michelle' off the screen!

The new Martin is much better than the old one.

The new Michelle is just wrong. It's like someone in the future deciding to replace Danny Dyer with, I dunno, Peter Andre or someone.

Maybe I'm remembering it wrong, but wasn't Michelle a miserable cow back in the day? And your accent isn't likely to change much if you move as an adult, I left Scotland in the '80's, I still sound Scottish.

Totally agree. There was one scene in the living room where Sonia had said something about Martin and you could almost hear "michelle" mumbling "my line's next, ready, here it is, quickly, say it" it was awful.

I don't watch regularly anymore but was really puzzled when I first saw Michelle, I didn't know who she was meant to be.
I don't like the storyline at all. Can't warm to her character either.

I feel sorry for the actress...but Nu-shelle is dreadful! Just a truly dreadful actress. She makes Letitia Dean look like Dame Judi.

I just can't get my head around the schoolboy storyline, either. Its stupid and a bit creepy.

I don't watch WE as in I don't follow it. I have had the misfortune to see it occasionally when I have been at a friend's/ family member"s house. Shouty Kat and awful Alfie were rubbish, and that Shirley bird... Umh.I think Stacey is okay, but the storylines were abysmal. (Imho)

I actually don't really watch anymore because of her. She is so annoying, and a shit actress.. she's so unbelievable as Michelle it's unreal! They have totally changed her character. And true about Martin as well he's shit. I really don't know how any of them hit the part.

I always forget that numartin isn't the old orginal one, I've quite warmed to him to be honest.
The hair, awful clothes, awful dead flat voice and awful acting I just cannot warn to nuchelle

Nothing against the actress but she is ever so wooden . Her voice barely changes (which is required when acting) and I am old enough to recall the original Michelle ,, Susan Tully . I understand Susan did not wish to return but why even bring her back at all really ?
