To find the language around the American bombings disgusting?

msrisotto · 14/04/2017 08:07

Trump isn't actually alone in this, but his words are 'the mother of all bombs' and that he is so proud of the military for what they did.

This is vile, no? Whatever your beliefs around whether they should have taken action, it is still a sad, awful thing to kill dozens of people, no? This language sounds celebratory and totally minimising the cost to life, peace etc.

From what I have read, it was done with the knowledge of the Afghan gov but there is criticism of the decision to use the MOAB as the networks would apparently have been broken down in the near future anyway.

BoneyBackJefferson · 14/04/2017 19:51

scary

You have more faith in them than I do.

UncontrolledImmigrant · 14/04/2017 20:07

all kinds of disgusting things have been legal at one point or another

The idea that a self serving club has decided that dropping this bomb, and others is legal doesn't make it right, or helpful or even necessary.

i find cheerleaders for death revolting, whatever team colours they happen to be wearing

scaryteacher · 14/04/2017 20:23

I really fail to see uncontrolled how doing nothing to combat Daesh and the other variations thereof is right, helpful or necessary. There are a fewer cheerleaders for death about after the MOAB was dropped.

scaryteacher · 14/04/2017 20:24

Boneyback Probably because friends have worked with some of them.

UncontrolledImmigrant · 14/04/2017 20:32

I quite forgot that the only available options were MOAB or nothing

Thank you scaryteacher for clarifying

UncontrolledImmigrant · 14/04/2017 20:35

There have been Daesh supporters here in the U.K., can we expect a MOAB here soon?

scaryteacher · 14/04/2017 20:40

It's a pleasure uncontrolled Dropping a MOAB means that the tunnel system was destroyed and didn't have to be cleared out by Special Forces, thus minimising Allied losses.

scaryteacher · 14/04/2017 20:44

Why would we need a MOAB unless they are hiding under Mount Snowdon, Dartmoor, the Grampians or the Black Mountains? I think the Intelligence Services are very effective in the UK at tracking and dealing with such people.

DevelopingDetritus · 14/04/2017 20:47

My son was just telling me he the Fox News host/reporter was describing the missiles being launched from the ship as "a beautiful sight", "our beautiful weaponry". Total and utter madness.

IsangforLadyArcher · 14/04/2017 20:57

UterusUterusGhali I don't believe they cared where they dropped it either; it's a willy-wanging thing. Do they really know Daesh was there? Do they care?

I thought it was common knowledge that a Special Forces soldier was killed there the week before so I think its safe to safe they had a good knowledge of the area and who was there.

BoneyBackJefferson · 14/04/2017 21:33

scary

But most of us don't have an inside track, we see the big names on the news spouting soundbites.

Valentine2 · 14/04/2017 23:49

no the democratically elected government of afghanistan more so than hamas which undoubtubly you support as well which is another terrorist orginazation
Me supporting Hamas? Where in the world did you find that kind of insinuation in any of my posts? The world of Bush and Blair, the one where you were either "us or them" is long gone. Please get over your nerves.
Did you know that General Zia of Pakistan was also an "elected leader" once he had grabbed the power he needed? He did elections, apparently was thoroughly popular among his countrymen too.Grin
There are all sorts of things that meddling in other countries results in. Let me ask you a genuine question: if I have the power to change the syllabus of all schools in Uk to convert it all to some form of any primitive religions, then make sure that it's the ONLY education that your kids get, not to mention the main meals of the day that the parents themselves can't afford, would your next generation give votes to me or not?
The Haqqani network of the dubious Afghan Pakistan border is a brilliant example of this.
Brain-washing does exist. And no it still doesn't give you the right to bomb the shit out of them, more so, because our own elected governments cheered and fully supported all of this (along with large doses of cash from Saudis) while the liberals in Afghanistan and Pakistan kept getting killed, threatened and jailed till their voice was silenced.

^THIS X100

Valentine2 · 14/04/2017 23:55

I think I am far more informed than you on this. It's extremely basic Google, even without actually doing any kind of reading or work on it all.
And no. it doesn't make it right. When USA atom-bombed Japan, it was part of an alliance, wasn't it?
please don't tell me you are the kind who will actually see the other side of the argument too regarding atom bombs because that will end this discussion right here

Valentine2 · 14/04/2017 23:58

The world is still as divided and unfair as it was when UN didn't exist. That doesn't mean you should dismantle UN.I think I have had the pleasure to see you on the EU threads too, haven't I? The same principle stands for EU too. You should work on it to make it better. It far from perfect and far too biased. Just a reflection of the society we live in. It doesn't mean we burn the town down to build it again.

Valentine2 · 15/04/2017 00:03

I have worked very vaguely regarding what's happenening in Syria and it was quite superficial. But the gist is still the same. We need to stop poking our nose in other countries. It's not right. It will always backfire and when it does, we will keep going back in circles while moping and scraping the remains of our brave soldiers and the unknown hundreds of thousands who have died in those foreign countries. Not a Trump or Bush or Obama will die, mind you. Neither a Blair.

Maybe it's just "fake news"
