Thanks for the new thread CaveMum. Can't believe we started the last thread with the strike on Syria, and this thread with a strike in Afghanistan, and a potential strike on NK looming. Madness!

Am I the only one to think that a strike on North Korea is necessary?

On one hand yes it is nessasary. On the other it's a tactical nightmare.

If Russia or China come to the aid of NK then it will go south very quickly. Sooth Korea is screwed. Eastern Europe is screwed.

A very good reason for us to NOT to piss Mexico off, then. It wouldn't be the first time an enemy has tried to convince Mexico to ally with them to invade the US. Germany tried in WWI (Zimmermann Telegram).

Mexico, and for that matter Canada do not have the military superiority to launch a successful offensive.

The alt-right are in an absolute Trump love-tizzy at the moment. They didn't like the Syria strikes, but something about a REALLY BIG BOMB (with an amusing acronym!) really appeals to their MAGAs.

Inadelerium I think striking NK would be ill-advised as their full weapon capacity is relatively unknown and they are not without allies. NK also will not hesitate to protect itself. Most NK people are at the mercy of the regime - that is what you need to take out. Striking would only cause more distress to the people, IMO.

#BREAKING: US officials say they are prepared to launch "preemptive strike on North Korea" if NK tests nuclear weapon. This is...not good.

Methinks they are just itching to launch a missile or two in there.

I'm hoping it's just more willy waving on Trump's part. The problem with him is that if he gets away with something (Syria & Afghanistan bombs) then, with his ego, he simply has to move on to something bigger.

I don't know what can stop him if he's determined on 'sending a message' to NK, short of either the military refusing to obey his orders or him being declared non compos mentis by Pence and a Cabinet majority.

To be honest, I can't see WW3 starting, but I can see South Korea and/or Japan taking a hit if Trump pisses off Lil' Kim too much. Of course if that happened that's the end of the NK regime, but whether Lil' Kim has the sense to realise that is another thing.
