nuclear attack on britain- how likely

Posting this in AIBU for traffic.
With all the current unrest in the world, I've found myself obsessing today about the possibility of Britain being attacked.
Now, I suffer from depression and anxiety that is controlled by ADs. My husband has serious health issues, undergoing chemo atm and I'm naturally worried about the outcome. Till today, I've been coping with my feelings and emotions well. But today, seemingly out of the blue I'm haunted by the fear of a nuclear attack, can't seem to shake off the feelings of dread and fear.
I know in my head the reality is remote, but I suppose what I need to hear is that that is right.
Can anybody reassure me? Please help.

If only we still had Obama, he always seemed so calm and rational. Sad

DrasticAction · 13/04/2017 23:57

But do you recall any governments actions or the UN actually stopping NK from developing weapons? They are supposed to be stopping it for the money and stuff they get from the US and others. They get huge amounts for food etc the country is starving.
However this has not worked and the man can now - now - fire nuclear weapons at far greater distances so now the threat has gone up a level - so yes Obama may now be sending a naval unit out there to counter this were he still POTUS.

The threat level has changed, the leader is different to what was before for years. Its all new. Do you honestly think China would rather do business with mad NK than US?

ShoesHaveSouls · 13/04/2017 23:57

I miss Obama.

ShoesHaveSouls · 13/04/2017 23:58

With Obama, it really was a case of 'you don't know what you've got till it's gone'.

MovingOnUpMovingOnOut · 13/04/2017 23:58

Oooooh! Ken's not happy!

^ Confused Yes he did seem like that but at the moment the threat level has changed.

NK is out of control and can possibly attack countries with far greater range than before - ie sanctions and calm and shit are not working.

sonyaya · 13/04/2017 23:59

lisalambe that's reassuring, thanks.

drasticaction in my opinion Obama would be dealing with this very differently.

RockyBird · 14/04/2017 00:01

Aberdeen first. Oil and Gas infrastructure plus Trump has a golf course/resort there.

ShoesHaveSouls · 14/04/2017 00:05

Doomsday Clock through the ages even in the cold war, we were not as close as now.

In 1984 we were 3 minutes to midnight.

In 1991 we were 17 minutes to midnight.

In 2017 we are 2.5 minutes to midnight,

This is not in our imagination - we are back to a nuclear near-crisis, and it's not my fucking imagination, or anything to do with mental health.

aprilsdelight · 14/04/2017 00:08

Can someone tell me, because i don't watch the news, too scary, what are Trumps intentions with the task force he's sent to Korea. Is it just meant as a warning or does he intend to bomb them.

ShoesHaveSouls · 14/04/2017 00:10

I'm not sure anyone knows, april, probably not even Trump. Sabre rattling, we hope.

zoobaby · 14/04/2017 00:13

I do wonder if the current situation (i.e. all the shit threatening to hit multiple fans simultaneously) is actually of Obama's making.

Graceflorrick · 14/04/2017 00:17

It's possible, but unlikely. I can make peace with that.

ShoesHaveSouls · 14/04/2017 00:19

Obama - who is documented as saying "don't get me into a war" - is now being blamed for this. Bullshit.

Bunnyfuller · 14/04/2017 00:19

Is Zooba y Mrs Trump, we wonder????? Trying to blame Obama for her hubby's naughty bombiness/task forceyness. Busted!!! (Kidding) while I'm on the subject tho, isn't there a word that means 'poo vomit' that sounds like Mrs Donald's name?

EffinElle · 14/04/2017 00:20

Trump is dangerous.

aprilsdelight · 14/04/2017 00:31

I wonder how Hilary Clinton would have handled it all, she was the one who was meant to be the war monger, Trump had said he didn't want to get involved in anyone else's wars. I was going to say lying politicians but he's got no experience of politics or world affairs for that matter.

peaceout · 14/04/2017 00:39

It's hard not to feel a bit concerned

Bunnyfuller · 14/04/2017 00:42

It's saying on Twitter Trump will hit NK if they launch nuke test? As in within the last hour?

NameChanger22 · 14/04/2017 00:44

I'm not worried about it and I read the Preppers board regularly.

I think economic collapse of our country is far more likely, I don't worry about that much either ,,, well maybe a little bit.

InaDelerium · 14/04/2017 00:50

We are nowhere close to a "financial collapse" or a WW3 scenario.

Rest easy. Arguably the world is far stable than it has been for a long time.

aprilsdelight · 14/04/2017 00:52

Well if the crazy one in N Korea has any sense he better not, he's up against an equally crazy one who seems keen to show his power.

aprilsdelight · 14/04/2017 00:54

How is it more stable delerium it seems very scary at the minute.

zen1 · 14/04/2017 00:58

As a child and teen in the 80s, I used to lie awake worrying about this. I remember it fired my dad up and he used to regale us with stories about how if there was a nuclear war, martial law would be declared and people would be shot if they tried to leave for safer places (think he must have watched Threads). No wonder I had nighmares as a 10 yr old. He also kept talking about moving to New Zealand as that was apparently the safest place to be in the event of a nuclear strike.

I just can't work up the same level of anxiety now, though visiting a fully-equipped former government nuclear air raid shelter a few years ago did freak me out somewhat!

peaceout · 14/04/2017 00:59

I dont think Kim Jong-un is known for his good sense is he?
Isnt he uber paranoid?
Loads of doubles and very secretive about his exact location?
