To have four large dogs in the home with my family?

fallingdownasteepsteadyslope · 10/04/2017 18:40

We have 5 children. Wasn't particularly planned as we have two sets of twins. Our oldest two are 9, the middle child is 7 and the youngest two are 4. We have four large dogs (three are what we consider giant breed).
Our 7yr old has made friends with a new girl in the class. We invited her over for a playdate but new girl's mother is refusing to let her come due to our 'big beastly dogs'. She's seen all of them as we take them on dog walks. She then said I was irresponsible to 'have so many dogs and so many children because one of the children will get bit eventually'. It set me off thinking, if you saw me in the street, would you think I was ridiculously irresponsible and 'a inadequate mother'? BTW, this mother has four dogs of her own, three cockerpoos and a cav.

Timing award goes toreactivedog

My DC now desperate to visit house of many large dogs

My reaction on seeing OP out with dogs and kids is, thank God that's a few of us left , who are prepared to brave such dangers as hairy soppy pets

Havanaclub · 10/04/2017 23:28

Dogs kill. They can do this in the wrong hands, just look at the reports.

People therefore can be terrified of dogs.

Stand back and think about others before trying to label me and get me banned. It is just an opinion. Like you all, I am entitled to that, just like you, but you can rebut without wishing me banned. Fight your corner. X

FunkinEll · 10/04/2017 23:29

Nothing helpful to add other than to say what a beautiful dog collection you have.

hmcAsWas · 10/04/2017 23:29

I don't know why anyone is engaging with Havana if she has form for this. Why not ignore her and not give her the satisfaction....

UrsulaPandress · 10/04/2017 23:30

Erm. How can I possibly comment without a photo of your 'beastly' hounds.

Reactivedog · 10/04/2017 23:32

Yes, because you thought about that poor poster crying about her dying dog didn't you.

You, statistically are extremely unlikely to be killed by a dog.

You are much more likely to be killed by your parent, a car, a cow or an accident in the home.

Deal in facts, not hysteria.

Numerous studies have shown that children who grow up in a house with dogs have stronger immune systems as well as other benefits.

You post on every single thread about dogs, quite inappropriately sometimes.

You think about it.

Reactivedog · 10/04/2017 23:33

hmcAsWas true. No more from me.

Mummymoanasaurus · 10/04/2017 23:34

I'm sure more people have killed dogs than dogs have killed people!

Op I would love to come and play with your dogs, some of my favourite breeds.

UnbornMortificado · 10/04/2017 23:34

No, I asked for you to be banned because you came in to a thread where a poster was distraught about her dog dying, you repeatedly posted nasty comments about dogs despite being asked to stop.

What on earth Sad

Havanaclub · 10/04/2017 23:38

Oh honestly,

I am saying what most people fear to say.

But ban me I don't care.

You just have to look at some threads about vacuum cleaners and the biggie is the pet hairs. Bwoak.

But anyway. Each to their own. I am sure you all love trying to get rid of pet hair every fekin day. Must be so rewarding.

Porpoiselife · 10/04/2017 23:39

I wouldn't think you an inadequate mother at all. Or irresponsible. But I would be concerned about my child visiting a house with 4 dogs to be honest. I would say no to them visiting at least until I had got to know you and how the dogs are within the family group better. I'd also feel the same about a house with 1 dog, if that dog was of a particular breed. But this is due to an incident where the friendliest loveliest dog sudddnly wasn't and it was a real eye opener.

It wouldn't be based on your ability as a mother at all though, just my own wariness of dogs.

SilverdaleGlen · 10/04/2017 23:42

teenage not an assumption you can make, my best friend lived comfortably with her two Dobermans, didn't stop them trying to rip me apart age 9. Still terrified of dogs now. My parents didn't vet pets.

OP she was totally rude. But I wouldn't send my DC to yours either. All dogs can turn. Big dogs do more damage.

5OBalesofHay · 10/04/2017 23:43

Havana I don't like dogs but you are obsessed. Has something traumatic happend?

SilverdaleGlen · 10/04/2017 23:44

*terrified is an overstatement actually. I'm ok but wary. And will get my own dog one day.

NotInMyBackYard1 · 10/04/2017 23:44

Havana
What does bwoak mean? Also, I'm pretty sure cars kill more people than dogs do - shall we ban those too?

kali110 · 10/04/2017 23:44

Havanaclub why assume mom only cleans up after the dog?
My dh cleans up mostly after our pets.
If you really did go onto a thread about someone losing their pet that is absolutely disgraceful Angry
And you deserve to be banned.

So people wouldn't send their kids to homes with 4 huge dogs, what if they were 4 little dogs?

EssentialHummus · 10/04/2017 23:44

I'd be over like a shot! I aspire to be like the Malones off Gogglebox, with 4 Rottweilers cuddling on the sofa in the front room. (In reality I live in central-ish London with a dog-phobic husband.)

Havanaclub · 10/04/2017 23:49

Report me to MNHQ. Ban me. It might make you feel better.

DoloresTheRunawayTrain · 10/04/2017 23:50

Havanaclub food can kill if it's prepared by an inexperienced person, it has also been responsible for more deaths than dogs ever will. Food can be dangerous too.

BillyButtfuck · 10/04/2017 23:54

I really dislike dogs but I've just had a google image search and OP yours look lovely and snuggley! If I could meet them first and get a feel for their temperament I'd happily let my boys come and play.

Havanaclub · 10/04/2017 23:55

if only people i.e humans managed to get the same respect as dogs/animals. That would be good wouldn't it?

But I suppose I will be reported for that comment aswell.

DoloresTheRunawayTrain · 11/04/2017 00:00

So you want humans to get the same respect as dogs. How about trying to start up your own human meat festival to go along with the Yulin dog meat festival.
Oh, that's right because it's illegal to kill humans for food...just about everywhere. There you go just one example of humans garnering more respect than dogs.
Tut, tut Havanaclub do get an education there's a dear.

Havanaclub · 11/04/2017 00:01

Oh and I could have name changed for the awful comments, but I have no need.

The problems are all yours it seems.

5OBalesofHay · 11/04/2017 00:14

What is it about dogs you dislike most Havana? I'm not a fan (understatement) but as long as they aren't near me or mine I'm ok. What is it about them that gets you so fired up?

Katie0705 · 11/04/2017 00:15

You have lovely dogs, I would not take any notice of her. I have three dogs although much smaller than the St. Bernard's I used to have.
