I am just being a tad curious and nosy.

What jobs do you do that mean you can work from home?
And does it pay decently?

Sorry, Salary 60k pro rata plus,15k pro rata bonus

RebelandaStunner · 10/04/2017 16:32

Own business. Earn more than 6x what I earn in my p/time job for same hours. Involves 3-6 hrs out of home per week.

ILikeBeansWithKetchup · 10/04/2017 16:52

I once suggested it at work but was told no - apparently teachers aren't allowed to (not during the day in term time anyway - evenings and weekends are OK). wink grin

Hahaha! Exactly what I was about to post!

The classroom control would be a breeze ...

GimbleInTheWabe · 10/04/2017 17:12

I'm a voice over artist, have a home studio so record at home to suit my own timetable. Good pay, £50k last year but it's not consistent or reliable.

BendydickCuminsnatch · 10/04/2017 17:16

Wedding cake maker. Pays well if you do the promo and get the orders (and have top notch skills and professionalism, obviously).

Kahlua4me · 10/04/2017 17:16

I run own business with dh so work at home and he goes out a few days a week. Works well for us as no childcare ever needed and I can be flexible as to when I work.
In holidays, I tend to work early mornings or evenings so can still do stuff/outings with dc.

Works well for us although I do get a bit stir crazy at times, it rarely these days.

My brother also works from home as tv editor.

FlyingSquid · 10/04/2017 17:20

Oh wow, Gimble. Did you get into that via drama school? It's DD's dream job - she's a talented actor (to my mind), but doesn't think she has the looks to go far in conventional stage or screen roles.

Actually, I think 'next Victoria Wood' would be her ideal job.

GimbleInTheWabe · 10/04/2017 17:23

Yes I graduated from drama school 3 and a half years ago. We trained in radio and I realised that I loved it so much more than stage/screen work. Took a few years to build up clients and there's still a lot more I'd like to do but it's a great career and very flexible. Feel free to DM me and I'd be happy to talk to you/your DD about it further as it's a bit of a closed world!

GimbleInTheWabe · 10/04/2017 17:24

Sorry flyingsquid I meant to tag you in my reply Confused

VanellopeVonSchweetz99 · 10/04/2017 17:25

Author. I have decent years and shit years, like PP said.

MirandaWest · 10/04/2017 17:26

I'm a support tutor for students studying for accountancy qualifications. Work full time from home and get paid an all right salary.

FlyingSquid · 10/04/2017 17:26

Thanks, that's much appreciated!

maggiethemagpie · 10/04/2017 17:27

Human resources advisor. Pays well (high 30s), not as high as some but enough. Plus I have no commuting costs and when I travel to meetings (1-2 times a week) I get mileage at 45p/mile which adds another £100-£150 to my monthly pay (I use this as treat money).

fishandships · 10/04/2017 17:28

PA. Work from home 3 days a week (although can be more if I want to for any reason). Just over £37k.

Like a pp said, I wouldn't give up the flexibility for another job that paid more now, it's worth too much.

jgjgjgjgjg · 10/04/2017 17:31

NCT Antenatal teacher. Teach from home once or twice a week and out of home probably about the same. Unsocial hours, all evenings and weekends. Obviously teaching from home depends having a room big enough to accommodate 12 or more people, with breakout space for small group activities, as well as there being sufficient demand in your area. All prep, planning etc done from home. Hourly rate is about 4 x minimum wage but paid ONLY for client contact time, not for prep, follow up, admin, travel time, etc.

Also bookkeeper from home 2 days a week - obviously need childcare in place for that. FTE about £29k a year.

Digitlal marketing consultant -set up my own company 2 years ago

Crumbs1 · 10/04/2017 17:43

Senior manager in public sector organisation. Not amazing (circa 75k) but no travel costs, good leave, autonomy, flexibility and control of own diary.

WannabeMathematician · 10/04/2017 17:44

Programmer. Though I don't but my boss works from home 3 weeks out of 4. I've been offered some days at home but it's not right for me now.

Pays pretty well in my field.

glitterglitters · 10/04/2017 17:45

I'm a freelance writer.

glitterglitters · 10/04/2017 17:47

Oops pressed post 😂

It pays well but it's less consistent than my old full time work. I'd say it would pay 3x if I did the hours I did full time in an office but I do maybe 1/6 of that (though that's through choice and being a sahm too)

minionsrule · 10/04/2017 18:20

Software tester in IT for large company. WFH 2 days a week, pays pretty good - £30k - £35k

catgirl1976 · 10/04/2017 18:27

Client Lead.

WFH with some travel. Maybe 3 days at home, 2 on the road on average. Some over night stays.

But DS still needs after school as I can't work and look after him at the same time. It's great though as it's flexible and some days I stay in my PJs till the afternoon :) (If I've got no VCs of course :) )
