I am looking for a new hobby with the following criteria..

: Not expensive
: Something a fat middle aged woman can do/learn to do.
: Something fun.
: Something active.

I already run on treadmill / outside when well enough.

I swim once a week with family. I have swimming pass but find solo swimming relaxing but boring. I am not a good swimmer.

I have done aqua, aerobics, Zumba, yoga loads...bored now.

There is a local hockey and badminton clubs but guessing I would need to be younger and fitter to join ? Though I will ring and enquire as I use to love playing both at school....many years ago.

Any suggestions ?

Dodgeball
Roller Derby
Tag Rugby

Walking. I do absolutely loads of it, covering over 100 miles each week.

Look at the Long Distance Walkers Association. You only need to start with short distances and build up. Join a local club and it gets very social!

Amateur dramatics, great fun but can be time consuming as show date nears

badhotfanny · 09/04/2017 20:40

Choir?

Babieseverywhere · 09/04/2017 20:40

I might try geo caching with my kids.

Main idea is to get fitter...so it has to be active.

I do adult gymnastics. There's ladies in their 60's go!

Jessicabrassica · 09/04/2017 20:42

Bell ringing?

CornflakeHomunculus · 09/04/2017 20:43

Tag Rugby or Touch Rugby League. Both really good fun.

I wouldn't worry too much about your age or fitness. I'm fat, horribly unfit, the wrong side of 30 and have just taken up full contact rugby league. Felt a bit like I was going to die at first but it's brilliant fun and I'm certainly not the youngest at the club.

CheshireSplat · 09/04/2017 20:44

Tennis? Our local club is desperate for new adults to play. They have children coming out of their ears.

Babieseverywhere · 09/04/2017 20:51

There is a touch rugby group not far away...on my list.

Tennis sounds good too.

Have you thought of trying ballet? Adult classes are much more widely available than they used to be, you don't have to have done it before, and leaping about in a leotard isn't compulsory if you'd not feel happy doing that. It's weight-bearing but a sprung floor lessens the impact on joints; you really do work your whole body; and it's great for strengthening your core & improving your posture... A quick Google will tell you what's available near you...

I really fancy taking up a martial art but I have no idea which one.... I think maybe jujitsu.... does that appeal?

FairytalesAreBullshit · 09/04/2017 21:09

I'm definitely thinking sports, although if you wanted to try something creative, I'm sure I've got spares I could send for a taster.

A book I love is called Wreck this Journal, if you're arty.

tired17 · 09/04/2017 21:10

Walking netball?

DJBaggySmalls · 09/04/2017 21:11

Tai Chi, Judo or Akido.

Mummysh0rtlegs · 09/04/2017 21:12

How about needlefelting? I sorry a wonderful creme egg holder on another post...

Out2pasture · 09/04/2017 21:12

Pickleball. I saw a couple playing this and thought it looked fun (from a middle age perspective)

My DS and DIL do swing dancing - and they love it. It's quite easy to pick up and from then on as hard or easy as you want it to be really - like most types of social dancing.

As a non active thing - I've just started pottery and I love it - so relaxing, and if you use the wheel it is quite hard work and your arms get a good work out Smile
