To think if you're going to make a cake for my son's birthday, you don't make one like this!?

I'm guessing it's supposed to be some kind of funny joke but I had a lot of bloody miserable kids who got no cake, especially a very upset 7 year old. All the other parents found it funny (or were just being polite) it was a disaster.

Please tell me you told her this is absolutely not ok.

StealthPolarBear · 09/04/2017 12:49

Ds woukd eat enough watermelon toturn into one. He'd love this. As well as his actual cake.

Proudmummytodc2 · 09/04/2017 12:50

That's terrible op!

I'd be fuming I get promoting healthy eating but it's one day a year ffs kids are allowed to full up on junk.

I would have to say something to her.

My kids love water melon but this is not ok for a child's birthday cake.

user1491737694 · 09/04/2017 12:50

Tell me about it... I'm still confused. I don't understand it at all. When she brought it I laughed, I thought it was a joke... Then I ask if we can go get the cake sorted and this is how she presents it.

My DS would love that. Watermelon is the best food in the world according to him. Even better than cake.

Floggingmolly · 09/04/2017 12:51

There's nothing particularly "clever" about a watermelon stood on end, is there? Even if it was for an adult Confused. Nobody would confuse that with a cake...
Nip out to M & S and get him a Colin the Caterpillar, op. And shove the watermelon somewhere very painful before your cousin leaves the party.

donadumaurier · 09/04/2017 12:52

Would she do that unwarned for her own child? Because I really want to know what child would happily accept that having been promised a cake.

VladmirsPoutine · 09/04/2017 12:53

Wow! I don't see how anyone could deem that an acceptable 'cake' for a 7yo's birthday. What is she smoking?

ScarletForYa · 09/04/2017 12:54

I love watermelon but I'd be annoyed. What's she playing at?

IloveBanff · 09/04/2017 12:57

I don't understand your cousin's thinking at all. All she's done is play a practical joke on everyone at the party. Why? Didn't you ask her why she'd done it?

CaptainMarvelDanvers · 09/04/2017 12:59

Did she tell you why she did it?

MamaHanji · 09/04/2017 12:59

I would have sent her to the shop to buy a bloody cake! So not fair on your son to have a watermelon cake monstrosity at his birthday party. And I love watermelon but that is taking the piss.

SolomanDaisy · 09/04/2017 12:59

That's so mean! My DS loves watermelon but it's not a bloody cake, is it?

BonnyScotland · 09/04/2017 13:00

thinking this is Funny or appropriate for a child's birthday cake... is disgusting....

OP is this a joke...

Gaaaah · 09/04/2017 13:00

Looks like she forgot or couldn't be arsed to make the cake and thought fuck it I'll carve up this watermelon. Badly.

It was a dick move for a 7 year old child.

user1491737694 · 09/04/2017 13:01

Oh trust me I wish this was a joke. Not at all.

No she didn't she just said "she thought idly was very clever"

OP posts:
pasturesgreen · 09/04/2017 13:01

Did you ask her what possessed her to turn up with a watermelon in lieu of an actual cake?

donadumaurier · 09/04/2017 13:02

I hate badly behaved children, but given the circumstances I hope your DS threw a legendary strop. What an idiot. Your poor DS, please tell me you bought him a cake/plan to buy him a cake?

donadumaurier · 09/04/2017 13:02

I mean, how many children even ate it?

MrsWhiteWash · 09/04/2017 13:04

It's not particularly nice to promise cake then turn up with water melon.

SaveMeBarry · 09/04/2017 13:05

I don't understand this. She shows up with that Confused so then what? What conversation took place??

ChasedByBees · 09/04/2017 13:07

I can't understand why she would do that. Confused

DJBaggySmalls · 09/04/2017 13:08

Thats like promising the birthday child a puppy and handing them a stuffed toy.

MistressMolecules · 09/04/2017 13:10

Oh how rubbish! I would have sent her with a flea in her ear to go to the nearest supermarket to pick up a cake (at her expense). Silly woman and poor boy!

Gileswithachainsaw · 09/04/2017 13:13

That is just crap. Poor kids. It's not a birthday without cake.
