Now this isn't really the most serious post as I pretty much admit I'm being dreadfully dramatic, but AIBU to be a totally unintentional food snob Grin - Turned my nose up at a canned Shock spaghetti Shock toasted sandwhich the other day and it got me thinking that I may be one of 'those' people with haughty food opinions. I do the whole 'no mass produced babyfood' thing, the 'how dare you' response to caged/cruelty meat, and have a toddler known to cry for truffle tortellini.

Anyone else suffering this affliction want to share their stories - it may make me feel less like a terrible person!

I don't like the sound of spaghetti in a toastie, but I really fancy spaghetti hoops on toast after reading this thread!

Chocolatecake12 · 09/04/2017 08:04

I'm a bit of a biscuit snob! Can't stand a boring rich tea or digestive. They are safe in the staff room at work as they'll lie untouched by me which should theoretically mean I don't pile on the pounds.

Vonklump · 09/04/2017 08:07

What about canned spaghetti on pizza?

LynetteScavo · 09/04/2017 08:09

I'm too lazy to be an actual food snob as I really can't be arsed to make my own pesto etc, but if I had my own chef....and I have discovered Tart Pops. They're bloody delicious! After years of sneering at them on supermarket shelves I have taken to stockpiling them from B&M bargains Blush

Headofthehive55 · 09/04/2017 08:09

I think I'm roughing it when I open a can of pears to go on our breakfast waffles.

cheminotte · 09/04/2017 08:11

Yes absolutely - spaghetti hoops and baked beans - yuk. McDonald's and any other fast food - yuk. Just started really reading labels to avoid glucose fructose syrup. I do feed my kids baked beans though, but the low sugar and salt version.

TondelayaDellaVentamiglia · 09/04/2017 08:12

ds1, aged about eight once interrogated a waiter about the cheese that had been proffered for the top of his Spaghetti Bolognaise

"is that real Parmesan???"
and
"well no one likes ready grated!" complete with a horrified face to emphasise the point.
Dh was laughing his head off in the corner

Canned spaghetti on a pizza - The prime minister of New Zealand did this recently, hope it looses him the next election. Zut alors, should be illegal. Sacriledge!

TondelayaDellaVentamiglia I feel like our kids would get along. Your DS is right though - ready grated vom!

I was mortified in a cafe when DD said she wanted olives instead of crisps, she was 2 at the time. I could feel the glares of other customers who clearly thought I was a food snob. I'm not, last night's tea was mainly prawn crackers and chips.

Munchkin08 · 09/04/2017 08:16

RightOn - I'm the same, haven't eaten tin spaghetti on toast in years but really fancy it now.

FormerlyFrikadela01 · 09/04/2017 08:20

Spaghetti hoops on toast was my go to meal when i was pregnant and my DP was working late shift. Delicious.

I think I've only ever met one genuine food snob. She turned her nose up at my home made spag bol because the spaghetti wasn't fresh Hmm she was not invited back.

Lostpangolin · 09/04/2017 08:30

My sel du jour is smoked from the Galloway smokehouse, waitrose who? I'll have the essential swan fillet pleaseGrin

SimplyNigella · 09/04/2017 08:35

IME boarding schools tend to inspire disgusting sounding, carb heavy junk food. Super noodle sandwiches were very popular at mine.

AnnieAnoniMouse · 09/04/2017 08:35

Tinned Spagetti in NZ is totally different & really good in a toastie, so are NZ tinned beans. Tinned spaghetti in the UK is tasteless. Adding pepper & cheese helps, minimally.

ThursdayLastWeek · 09/04/2017 08:39

I like this thread title because, in my experience, food snobs are never anonymous no matter how subtle they think they're being.

The slight sneer is always lurking Grin Wink

topcat2014 · 09/04/2017 08:40

This all falls into the category of stuff that just makes life hard - I cook "from scratch" but use gravy granules.

Mind you, I am a bit discerning - will eat baked beans but not countenance tinned spaghetti. Busily eating home made bread for breakfast etc.

I would like to have an 'off switch' for sugary crap, but don't possess one unfortunately.

jarviscockerslover · 09/04/2017 08:40

I actually just had 2 tinned spaghetti and cheddar toasties.. It's a pretty common lunch here in Oz! And I would consider myself a food snob too... Dinner last night was homemade pasta with a burnt butter sage sauce and toasted walnuts.
Sometimes ha just crave a toastie though .. And that combo is killer

hippadoppaloppagorillapig · 09/04/2017 08:42

No issues with spaghetti hoops here. I am a nut butter snob though. I only like one brand.

BrieAndChilli · 09/04/2017 08:42

When DS2 was a toddler his favourite food was Brie, if we went to a friends house and the asked him what he wanted in his sandwich he would say Brie, and going round the supermarket would just be him chanting I want Brie.
All his friends were on dairylea sandwiches Grin

WeirdnessOfDoom · 09/04/2017 08:45

I don't buy meat at Lidl,Aldi or Tesco.Morrisons,Co-op or butcher for me.
Fast food- last time I had one was in 2009. It wanted to get out of my digestive system 15 minutes after consumption. DH was exactly the same.
No processed foods here either ( or very little)

maybeshesawomble · 09/04/2017 08:46

hippa Me too! I'm a nut butter addict but it has to be a particular brand.

TondelayaDellaVentamiglia · 09/04/2017 08:47

I thought I might try the lidl version of lurpak...ds2 cried....he was only about 5, but he loves real butter....caught him pinching bits from a wodge of beurre D'Isigny

He also used to eat moules and was peeved if they were not on the menu.
DD was the olive eater!
They are all grown u now and mostly can choose a decent meal from the dodgiest of menus! :o

We often watch Masterchef and tut about the wankiness though!

NeverEverAnythingEver · 09/04/2017 08:49

For years DC would eat sashimi but not fish fingers. I had to teach them to eat fish fingers. Now when we go out we look almost normal.

But truffle tortellini! >

NeverEverAnythingEver · 09/04/2017 08:50

Oh DC like Anchor Lighter butter spreads (no palm oil Wink) but not proper unsalted butter. >
