AIBU to cringe whenever I hear this lyric? (by The Weeknd)

This one (I Feel It Coming)

Tell me what you really like
Baby, I can take my time
We don't ever have to fight
Just take it step-by-step
I can see it in your eyes
'Cause they never tell me lies
I can feel that body shake
And the heat between your legs

ie the heat between legs. Horrible lyric! I'm sure I am getting prudish in my old age. However, I think of a recent thread (fanjo mist) and still chuckle at same time. But it just makes me think of sweaty non cotton knickers on plastic seats. I'm sure it's meant to be a sexy lyric.
It's not working for me.

Whole Lotta Love is kind of... straightforward. It doesn't really pretend to be something it's not. Nearly all Led Zeppelin songs are about sex I suppose. They don't really hide behind euphemisms all that much!

catscurledupbythefire · 08/04/2017 21:21

Hate that James Arthur one

I held your head when you were throwing up blah blah blah

Next day

I'm so in love with you, I'm making breakfast in bed and taking your kids to school.

POOR KIDS!

Forwardsforwards · 08/04/2017 21:26

Scottish that's Dr Hook.... boke

Forwardsforwards · 08/04/2017 21:27

Sledgehammer surprised me. I had nooo idea it was so risque Shock not a nun

Afo · 08/04/2017 21:39

Oh God the Diana Ross one, Chain Reaction makes me want to puke. "You let me hold you for the first explosion!" A horrible image pops into my head every time I hear that line

treaclesoda · 08/04/2017 21:43

Whilst we're on this theme, The Beatles 'Happiness is a warm gun' is not about hunting...

Babyitscoldouts1de · 08/04/2017 22:43

Ed Sheeran Galway girl is really bothering me at the moment, singing about his pretty little girl. You are 26 man, if you are dating a little girl that is disturbing and illegal

yesnowplease · 08/04/2017 22:48

He is so grim and that song in particular is vile.

yesnowplease · 08/04/2017 22:49

The next verse is many years later when they are older with children.

PhantomBlooper · 08/04/2017 22:51

I knew the lyric when I saw the title of this thread! I have always cringed at it and find the song a bit creepy anyway.

The James Arthur one I find hilarious, where he talks about holding her hair back when she's throwing up and the next line is about smiling over her shoulder. I always imagine some pissed up woman puking her guts up and then turning around and smiling with puke all in her hair/round her mouth.

Doesn't sound hilarious when written down but the image in my head is!

NoCapes · 08/04/2017 22:52

cats noooooooo, the kids are his too, years later
The first verse (where he holds her hair back) is them meeting, then we skip a few years (look how far we've come my dear, look how we've grown) are married (baby till death us part, like in our vows) and it's about him still loving her as much (I thank my lucky stars for that night)

I agree, it is problematic in a lot of ways. Catchy tune, shit lyrics.

jobvcareer · 08/04/2017 23:01

The original lyric is heat between your thighs, to rhyme with lies. Dirty but at least it makes lyrical sense, legs just sounds so...I dunno but I prefer thighs

user1471545174 · 08/04/2017 23:06

These are all vile apart from the Grace Jones which I bought was about cars until five minutes ago Blush

user1471545174 · 08/04/2017 23:10

thought

MaidOfStars · 08/04/2017 23:13

I have the Grace Jones 7 inch.

pun intended

Madeyemoodysmum · 08/04/2017 23:13

Re In the summertime.

I don't see that at all.

I see it as rich. Spend cash.
Poor. Picnic or cheap date etc

Why would it automatically mean rape!! Your read too much into it imo

SalemSaberhagen · 08/04/2017 23:14

I thought the Sweat song PP mentioned was about anal sex? That's what I was told anyway!

These Weeknd lyrics are pretty tame...listen to The Trilogy (by him) for real Shock ones.

dylsmimi · 08/04/2017 23:25

afo it was worse when steps covered chain reaction and you not only had that line but slimy smug Lee singing 'you make me tremble when your hand goes lower!

Falconhoof1 · 08/04/2017 23:30

Someone mentioned that James Arthur one where he's holding her hair while she vomits. The next line is something about her looking over her shoulder and smiling. I have this horrible image in my head of sick dribbling down her chin at this point Confused

MorrisZapp · 08/04/2017 23:38

I remember Handy Andy from Changing Rooms extolling the virtue of the 'daddy's rich' bit of In the Summertime on a 90's list show.

Whatever happened to list shows? That Iain Lee guy must be skint now.

And what's dodgy about Mama by Phil Collins? Am intrigued now.

treaclesoda · 08/04/2017 23:41

Handy Andy! I had forgotten about Handy Andy! And Iain Lee...

Procrastination4 · 08/04/2017 23:45

At last!!!! I thought I was the only one who thinks that The Weekend's song is the most vile thing ever. "Pervy vile rapist" is all I can ever think when I hear it on the radio, and I absolutely cringed when I heard one of the stylists in the hair salon I normally attend singing along to it quite happily, a few weeks ago. He's just a creep! Ugh!

OliviaBonas · 08/04/2017 23:46

The heat between your legs lyric gets silenced on radio 1 and I think some of the music channels too (and quite rightly.)

I can remember radio 1 and top of the pops wouldn't play sex on the beach when it got to number 1. Nowadays would be fine.

Is cake by the ocean the same thing? I always forget! 😊

Coverup890 · 08/04/2017 23:49

Those lyrics are disgusting i didnt notice them until my 12 yr old mentioned it. I dont like shape of you either but i think that may be because it just seems so shallow and i cant stand Ed sheran.

As for the weekend alot of his songs are pretty bad but then again i had to spend a year doing 12 hr night shifts with a boss who played his album and a load of woman hating rap on repeat. Hmm needless to say im glad i left.
