I would like some perspectives on this issue please.

My DS 19 first year uni, is home for Easter. He is up all night playing PS4 and asleep most of the day. When he gets up he arranges to go out with mates or they come here. He is constantly having sleepovers in his room (which is tiny) 3-4 boys at a time, rarely asks permission. I live in a flat and I had to stop them sleeping in my lounge, as I have to walk through it to get to my kitchen, and it's the only room I can sit in! If I had the space there would be no issue whatsoever.

They are all nice lads, they really are but, are these sleepovers normal at this age? 19 yo six footed men?? And is this normal behaviour up all night and sleeping all day? He has no hobbies or interests, just 'hanging out' with mates.

Opinions please..tia

Sounds normal to me, does sound like he's treating the place like a bachelor pad, so maybe set some rules about guests staying.

keeplooking · 08/04/2017 15:44

Would you rather he was out getting pissed every night?

That doesn't seem to happen any more. They get pissed in someone's room (Pre drinks, I think it's called - sounds so civilised!) before they go out, (if they bother going out at all) as it's cheaper!

Things change a lot when they leave uni and start work - then there's no time to visit DM, holidays are limited and usually involve their friends and not you!

EnormousTiger · 08/04/2017 16:13

Just say you don't want the friends to stay more than once a fortnight. That seems reasonable to me. Doesn't he have revision to do for first year exams coming up?

Vegan: But why would you compare this situation with a much worse one to make out that the OP Is lucky?! Everything can always be worse, what we want though is to improve our lives...

Howlongtilldinner · 08/04/2017 16:40

vegan I'm well aware of how 'well off' I am, and how different things could be. I was asking an opinion of my current situation, I'm grateful for your perspective though..

It is at least possible that he is working very hard on his degree and that this is his down-time.

corythatwas · 08/04/2017 17:14

But agree with EnormousTiger that it is likely that there is some work he should be doing over Easter, whether it's revising or writing essays or whatever. My students have course-work and revising for exams, and I certainly would not expect them to view this as a 4 weeks holiday.

Another "normal" here Grin
