Ginger.....I can't help but picture this as Jung Un tweets

"I'm so ronery, so ronery,
So ronery and sad an arone
There's nobody
Just me onry
Sitting on my rittle throne"

It's actually coming true. Fucks sake, where's Gary when you need him?

cozietoesie · 08/04/2017 17:29

There are two possible schools of thought here. One, that 45 will become accustomed to the use of 'conventional' weapons. The other that he might feel easy with their use - 'far away' - and treat them as an entree to the main course.

Damn, I had missed the link to the new thread.

Anyway, here's

Lweji · 08/04/2017 17:33

Why Political Satire is managing to cover Trump better than serious news.
It's interesting that it's the political satirists who have run in depth stories and haven't been bogged down by debates with idiotic alternative fact peddlers.
And, apparently, Jake Tapper, who is starting to use sarcasm.

cozietoesie · 08/04/2017 17:35

It's a good piece. Smile

illegitimateMortificadospawn · 08/04/2017 17:44

That's a great little video Lweji. I also think the satirists succeed because they are saying what we are all thinking. The news media are too constrained by polite discourse, turntaking norms and - of course - good practice standards around balance & presenting opposing views.

OP posts:
AcrossthePond55 · 08/04/2017 17:48

They also succeed because if all we had was serious reporting and 'just the facts, ma'am', I think we'd all explode from fear and/or anger.

Satire is keeping us sane.

Lweji · 08/04/2017 17:54

Good point, Across.

But too much time was given, particularly during the election to both points of view and debates about things that were clearly lies or bonkers.

I wonder if the possibility that Trump was in collusion (and not collision) with Putin over Syria is getting to mainstream news (haven't checked):

AcrossthePond55 · 08/04/2017 18:09

Lweji I think it's been 'touched' on. I suspect the MSM isn't hitting it hard because as of now there's no hard proof. They report on the bits and pieces, but aren't doing the adding up yet. Sort of 2+2 appears to be equaling 4, but we can't prove it. It's sort of a 'circumstantial evidence' situation. I suppose they don't want to count their chickens risk being accused of muck-raking or threatened with a lawsuit.

Or perhaps they don't want to forewarn Scrotus that the shit's about to hit the fan.

I'm afraid Trump's 'collusion' is leading to a big 'collision' in Syria.

Judd Legum‏ @JuddLegum

  1. I'm puzzled about the characterization of Trump's bombing of Syria as a success. What metrics are we using?
6:16 pm · 8 Apr 2017
  1. The airbase was operational the next day. Equipment was moved out before the attack
  1. If the U.S. can act to alleviate human suffering, that's worthwhile. Problem is it's unclear how military intervention helps in Syria
  1. This was the problem when Obama was considering action too. How was it going to make the situation better?
  1. There seems to be a sense that by doing something, Trump is sending a message to Assad. But what message?
  1. Trump previously characterized attacking Syria as a foolish waste of time. He hasn't explained at all what changed.
  1. So it's unclear that Trump even knows what message he's sending, much less effectively communicating a message to someone else
OhYouBadBadKitten · 08/04/2017 19:53

In the middle of all this we have ordinary Syrians. It's all so truly shit.

One Syrian tells me the new nom de guerre for President Trump on the ground in Northern Syria is Abu Ivanka al Amriki.

cozietoesie · 08/04/2017 19:53

It wasn't likely a message to Assad............

cozietoesie · 08/04/2017 20:03

I'd heard of that new nickname.

The reason you don't generally hit runways is that they are easy and inexpensive to quickly fix (fill in and top)!

If you REALLY want to deny a runway, there are ways to do it. But they are riskier than cruise missiles.

Not sure if Trump should be tweeting so flippantly about runways.
