I was chatting with a group of people, including a stay at home dad I know, about childbirth etc. I commented that I'd given birth to a 10lb 13oz baby without a tear and this dad said that I "should have asked to have a stitch put in to tighten it up for my husband's benefit"

I don't think you are being unreasonable at all, DaisyMOO. I'd be mortified.

Skribble · 09/03/2007 23:13

She should have a stitch in her mouth to benefit society and woman everywhere.

VeniVidiVickiQV · 09/03/2007 23:13

DP asked our consultant to do this

madamez · 10/03/2007 09:48

Elasticwoman - nothing wrong with giving even more rude verbal put-down in response to rude verbal put-down. But once anyone resorts to physical in an argument, they've lost.

helenhismadwife · 10/03/2007 17:19

I remember a dp saying this to the midwife I was working with when I was a student, his partner had a rotten time ending in a ventouse with a large baby and a nasty tear he had been a complete arsehole all the way through the labour she snapped at him 'why is you dick really small?' he shut up and sat quietly in the corner

SJLTM · 10/03/2007 18:05

How rude, i have had 5 babies weighing from 9lbs 9ozs to 10lbs 13oz . i have been called all sorts of names like bucket crutch, the worst being "i bet you can park a double decker up there " and she was my friend. Ignore him and be proud, i bet he has a small willy !

Elasticwoman · 10/03/2007 23:10

I'd say that when some one resorts to personal abuse they have lost the argument.

I think the man in question was so competitive he couldn't say well done good for you, and he couldn't say well our baby was even bigger, so he had to think of a put down.

nooka · 10/03/2007 23:27

I think Elasticwoman is right. I guess in a some ways you were boasting (and hey, it is quite an achivement!) and he couldn't cope with that. But yuerk how crude, I can't believe anyone would actually say something like that to someone's face!

LadyOfTheFlowers · 10/03/2007 23:33

i had ds2 without a tear at 10 lb 12.5.

elastic fanjos rock imo!

for the record, dh says it feels no different to before!

hugeheadofhair · 10/03/2007 23:40

Helenhismadwife has the best reaction!
Don't feel insulted. His dick is really small!

Arse

Elasticwoman · 10/03/2007 23:45

Wow - am impressed, Ladyoftheflowers. It is a myth that the heavier the baby, the worse the delivery will be. Some women have really terrible births, eg 3rd degree tears with even a tiny baby.

Any advance on 10 lb 12.5 baby successfully delivered without surgery?

Stiller · 10/03/2007 23:52

He just sounds like an inadequate wanker.

SJLTM · 11/03/2007 11:07

Yes 10lbs 13oz and not even a stitch, my last one was induced at 38wks as they were worried she was getting rather large, and she was 10lbs 8.5oz . so good job she arrived early is all i can say, i agree with
ladyoftheflowers, elastic fanjos rock !!

Hideehi · 11/03/2007 12:22

Lol didn't you, i did the midwife said if she had a pound for everytime she was asked that lol

helenhismadwife · 11/03/2007 12:45

I delivered an 11lb 4oz (preschooler!!) the mum was a 17 year old and she didnt need a stitch very small graze I was very proud of myself and her of course

Elasticwoman · 11/03/2007 14:21

Yes, it is an achievement for the mw as well as the mother.

Hideehi what are you talking about?

CODalmighty · 11/03/2007 14:23

i rememeb a mate of dhs saying htis to him years before we had kids
somehtin liekd " and i asked the surgeon to put an extra stictch in"
i was totally naiive abotu kids na d childbirhtt hen so didnt really knwo hwat he was on baout/care

yellowrose · 11/03/2007 14:56

My son was only 3.09 kilos at birth and I didn't have single tear or stitch probably because I was in water the whole time which softens the tissues. I did have an excellent mw too who put compress on and gave me herbal remedies to min. the damage.

You should have said the alternative to his wife putting in extra stitches would be for HIM to have a penis extension and would he fancy getting that done as he sounds like he has a very small one.

yellowrose · 11/03/2007 15:17

A friend of ours went for an elective c-section for her 2nd baby because she said she didn't want her vagina to get even bigger as her husband would get upset

foxybrown · 11/03/2007 15:18
