I'm.rubbish at plants. I think we have the middle one, possibly ducmsky pink flowers, don't know if it's edible. Is the right one mint?? Pick and bit and sniff it.

NamelessEnsign · 05/04/2017 18:02
  1. Poppy
  2. Aquilegia
  3. I always think these are forget-me-nots but I think I'm wrong.

(I am merely an amateur so may be wrong, but these all self seed so are often seen)

Sparrowlegs248 · 05/04/2017 18:03

Middle of second lot - primrose/primula? We have the first one too, don't know what it is but not food I don't think.

NamelessEnsign · 05/04/2017 18:03
  1. Euphorbia - toxic sap!
PurpleDaisies · 05/04/2017 18:03

On your first post the middle one looks like aquilegia which is a pretty flower.

The second post first one might be euphorbia and the middle one I think is a primrose.

None are edible!

NamelessEnsign · 05/04/2017 18:04
  1. Primula (I think)
  2. I think wallflowers
KinkyAfro · 05/04/2017 18:04

Top right pic is defo mint, rub a bit between your fingers

NamelessEnsign · 05/04/2017 18:04

None of these would have been planted for food in fact many will have self seeded I think. I grow most of these, but not for food!

PurpleDaisies · 05/04/2017 18:05

Forgot, the bottom right looks like a prolific weed we used to have in our old garden.

WhiskyChick · 05/04/2017 18:05

I'd say first one is poppies and I always call 3 forget me nots too (although it's not)

NennyNooNoo · 05/04/2017 18:05

I don't think any are edible! 3rd and 4th are weeds in our garden. 2nd is aquilegia - pretty flower, but spreads easily like a weed. 5th is a primrose.

thetemptationofchocolate · 05/04/2017 18:06

5 is I think a cowslip (which is a type of primula). I can never get these to grow in my garden so I am a bit envious of those :)

Okite · 05/04/2017 18:07

Don't think the top right one is mint, it looks a bit too leggy for that. As pps have said though, rub a leaf between your fingers and that will soon tell you. None are edible ones as far as I know

littlemissneela · 05/04/2017 18:08

1 looks like either celery or a poppy
2 aquiligia, prob a pink one
3 not sure on the name, but we had it on our old place after I sowed borage. Does it have prickly stems? Its spreads like crazy. Bees love it, but I didn't.
4 spurge? The sap is an irritant
5 primrose
6 speedwell I think. It has tiny blue white flowers, self seeds

Hope that helps Smile

NamelessEnsign · 05/04/2017 18:08

I'm not sure (3) is mint - the flowers don't look familiar - but rubbing the leaves as kinkyafro suggests will tell you right away. If it is mint, dig it up and keep it in pots; it is rampant!

NennyNooNoo · 05/04/2017 18:08

Sorry, cowslip, not primrose.

littlemissneela · 05/04/2017 18:08

Oops, edit! 5 is either primula or a cowslip.

Nacknick · 05/04/2017 18:10

Number 3 with the blue flowers is blue alkanet which spreads like crazy and has really deep tough roots. We're gradually winning the battle against it. In front of the alkanet looks like mint - does it smell minty?

Deux · 05/04/2017 18:10

In my garden all of them would be weeds except for the middle pictures - top aquilegia and bottom primrose/primula.

I pull up the aquilegia though as mine are a horrid sludgy pink and they self seed like crazy.

NamelessEnsign · 05/04/2017 18:10
  1. Might be a brunnera?
Stopthisshemozzle · 05/04/2017 18:12

Thanks everyone! That has given me a much better idea.
Glad I didn't dig in just yet!
Good news as it means I won't feel guilty taking it all out to make a lawn. :)

Magicpaintbrush · 05/04/2017 18:14

1 - Poppy,
2 - aquiliga,
3 - Salvia (I think),
4 - recognise but don't know name
5 - primrose
6 - weed.

Don't eat these plants, not edible! (Tho primrose may be, not sure).

Deux · 05/04/2017 18:15

Oh yes, just get rid before they start seeding all over the place. If you like the little primrose dig it out and put it in a pot.

Happy gardening.

Stopthisshemozzle · 05/04/2017 18:18

Hehe! I feel a tad daft now.

Any tips on sowing a lawn?! Grin
