DPD tried to give my iPhone to a neighbour

AIBU not to book another delivery in these circumstances....

Ordered an iPhone as have to have one for work.
Was told it would be delivered today.
Arranged that DP would be at home to accept said delivery.
This morning, get a text to say couldn't deliver, not in, card left etc.
They even took a picture of 'my' house. Only it isn't my house.
It's a names-only road but only a couple of houses per postcode. This particular house is quite a way down the road, very different name and much nicer than ours

I have had annoying and patronising messages from DPD and Tesco (phone company) about redelivery. Can't seem to contact DPD and speak to a real person and Tesco have yet to respond to my messages.

Would I be at fault, arranging a redelivery, knowing that in all likelihood my neighbour will get a free iPhone?

I appreciate the pressures faced by delivery drivers, but really?!

But they'd probably be broken 😂

OH new iPhone was delivered to a random neighbour down the road too, despite him expressly stating he didn't want it being left with anyone (we don't know our neighbours all that well). The phone didn't turn up for a WEEK afterwards, EE had no clue where it was as they'd contracted out to the couriers. Couriers weren't interested as in their eyes it was "delivered". We missed the neighbour who had it several times due to work shifts etc. TBF had they been less than honest they could have kept that phone/flogged it & denied all knowledge.

My new iPhone 4s (so a long time ago) was delivered to my neighbour. When I went to collect it she claimed not to have it despite the signature on the courier sheet being hers.

When I contacted my phone company it was in use on someone else's o2 contract, I never did find out if it was her or her husband or it had been sold on. O2 went on to prosecute though. Inhad to give a statement etc.

Grumpy 'safe place' messages have worked. OH says that the parcels have been delivered. No reference to yesterday's cock-up, so when she said 'you tried at the wrong house yesterday, didn't you?', he admitted it and then came up with some proptracted explanation but no apology. Grrrr.

So you have your parcels?

If it helps there's a manager out there who's getting his arse kicked because the driver brought it back. If it'll smooth your ruffled feathers Wink

Catsize · 05/04/2017 12:16

Yes gamer. However, I'd be willing to bet he didn't 'get his arse kicked' because that would be a fair few assaults for all the times they leave cards through doors.

He did say they don't always have time to look for the correct house, so are clearly in the habit of posting missed delivery cards through random doors. No doubt to prevent aforementioned assaults.

I am pretty sure that had I not left the messages I did this morning, we'd be in the same boat.

It was the lack of acknowledgement about yesterday - not least because we'd made arrangements to ensure someone would be in. He wouldn't have said anything unless prompted, and even when prompted didn't apologise.

Yes, they have pressures. It doesn't mean an automatic green card to treat customers and their work/arrangements like dirt.

I'm just glad it wasn't a medical delivery.

Well my husband is one of those managers OP and carded or not he would be the one to get the bollocking.

They don't like to just card at random, the driver doesn't get paid then and they do have little time. If the saturns going out of etas for eg they'll be told to miss a bunch off and go back to it later. They are ruled by that little device that you scribble your signature on. Too early and the machine won't let them deliver it, too late then the holy wars of hell descend on the figures and everyone gets their arses kicked.

I gave you the phone number to speak to a real person upthread. If you feel it's unacceptable to get your parcel a day late and not receive an apology from the driver then use it and complain.

Completely off-topic but where do you work that they insist you have an iPhone?
