They really are yet get hardly any recognition in the biscuit world. Everyone's too busy arguing over whether a jaffa cake is a cake or a biscuit and 1001 ways to.eat a digestive.

And there sits the humble fruit shortcake, silently in all its chewy, sugary glory. Understated yet steadfast and reliable. I mean it's a reliable fact that if I get my hands on a pack that pack will fall into my gob and satisfys whatever was ailing my need to reach for the biscuits.

Anyways, AITOFSF ?? (( am I the only fruit shortcake fan ))

YABVU for mentioning them on the open internet where a poor passing expat might suddenly realise she has neither seen nor tasted one in 10 years and may never see another.
Sad

Ordinarily I'd agree with you, but I bought a packet the other day and they were so disappointing. They taste stale and less sugary than I remember, and the texture was all wrong.

They were McVitites. Honestly, they were so different to what I was expecting, I reckon they've been fiddling around with the recipe.

Nothing like the fly cemetery ones, which have a yucky after taste and are quite dry. I cannot for the life of me remember the name of them at the moment, but it's more like a layer of currants in the middle...

Are you thinking of Garibaldi?

I like them too. I always forget about them. Poor fruit shortcakes!

Putabit

Put in a requisition to those coming your way...

I sent a basics package to a cousin in Somalia/Eritraea years ago when not much was available: marmite, digestives, Tatler, Vogue, Private Eye, female stuff.

Went down well. The digestives were devoured immediately, the marmite rationed, the mags were passed on to the Embassy which likewise fought over them. Get your friends to do the same.
