They really are yet get hardly any recognition in the biscuit world. Everyone's too busy arguing over whether a jaffa cake is a cake or a biscuit and 1001 ways to.eat a digestive.

And there sits the humble fruit shortcake, silently in all its chewy, sugary glory. Understated yet steadfast and reliable. I mean it's a reliable fact that if I get my hands on a pack that pack will fall into my gob and satisfys whatever was ailing my need to reach for the biscuits.

Anyways, AITOFSF ?? (( am I the only fruit shortcake fan ))

I wouldn't have those in my house of DP would let me have my way. Blegh. Envy

OrlandaFuriosa · 04/04/2017 00:27

Op, in Notes from a Small Island, Bill Bryson quotes fruit shortbread as one of the things that the British are quietly grateful for, and that makes them quintessentially British, like wool rich socks. As opposed to going overboard with eg cream, chocolate, strawberries etc.

LoupGarou · 04/04/2017 00:27

Hmmm, I'm not convinced...I would need to try a few packs to be sure Grin.

BastardBloodAndSand · 04/04/2017 00:34

They are divine.

And as said above something to be quietly grateful for.

I agree. My favourites especially when dunked in tea.

haveacupoftea · 04/04/2017 00:48

They're ok but I prefer Nice biscuits. Delicious, I could eat 20 in one go.

Flippingecktucker · 04/04/2017 00:54

They are the best biscuit, by far, I love them. They make a very good breakfast, I find.

Katedotness1963 · 04/04/2017 05:58

Quite fond of a fruit shortcake and they're my husband's favourite. Nothing like the fly cemetery ones, which have a yucky after taste and are quite dry. I cannot for the life of me remember the name of them at the moment, but it's more like a layer of currants in the middle...

boolifooli · 04/04/2017 06:05

With you OP.

Pepperedpig · 04/04/2017 06:16

I love these but I can't buy them because I'm dieting and would eat the whole pack in one go. All other biscuits I can leave alone but these are so moreish.

PoppyFleur · 04/04/2017 06:25

Agree with you OP, my absolute favourite biscuit.

I can walk past chocolate covered biscuits but once a pack of fruit shortcake is open, it's a battle to not devour the whole lot!

Wellitwouldbenice · 04/04/2017 06:40

YANBU. They are my favourite biscuit...

ALemonyPea · 04/04/2017 06:45

If you like those, you should try the Borders butter sultana melts. Delicious.

BastardBloodAndSand · 04/04/2017 09:08

Ooooohhhhh, sultana melts you say ?? I have biscuity room for my affections.

You're an animal, OP.

The only place for raisins and their disgusting ilk is in the bin. NOT in a nice innocent shortbread biscuit!

SheSaidHeSaid · 04/04/2017 09:11

YANBU!

CrumpettyTree · 04/04/2017 09:14

I agree op. I bought a packet recently and they are a very nice biscuit indeed. They aren't appreciated in their lifetime and their inventor will probably starve in a garret, but were they to stop being sold i think they would be recognised as the masterpiece of the biscuit world that they are.

3luckystars · 04/04/2017 09:15

I agree with you. They are very special.

ShatnersBassoon · 04/04/2017 09:21

YABU. At best, they're the biscuit that isn't as awful as I expect it to be. They're still at the bottom of the pile, but they're not quite as miserable as they look and I would eat one to be polite. In other words, I'd rather have any other biscuit Grin

justgivemethepinot · 04/04/2017 09:22

Agree, I love these biscuits.

MumBod · 04/04/2017 09:24

Boak. The raisins go all funny when they're baked and taste like burps.

Bring on the cheapo Bourbons. Now that's a biscuit.

BreatheDeep · 04/04/2017 09:30

YANBU. They're definitely in my top 5. Along with fig rolls. Fruity biscuits are amazing.

Sprungout · 04/04/2017 09:45

Bourbons. You can use several of them to experiment as to the optimum time for dunking in tea .

MumBod · 04/04/2017 09:50

Best dunking biscuit ever.

Dunk, suck. Dunk, suck. Dunk, suck, crunch.

I've practised.

peaceloveandbiscuits · 04/04/2017 10:02

Shatners Grin "not as awful as I expect them to be"
