To think that a name change could change my life?

floraeasy · 03/04/2017 14:01

I've been thinking about this - on and off - for a few years now.

My DH thinks it's daft, but would support me. I'm into some woo stuff, so should confess that first up.

I've been reading the Kabalarian Philosophy site and I am very tempted.

My first name has always bothered me. Much less so now than when I was a child, but part of me doesn't see why I should just accept it either.

I ran my first name through their free assessment page and it is not considered auspicious, whereas my husband's is. The stuff they say about what my name means for my life rings true as that has been my experience.

For a fee they will give me 30 to 50 name suggestions. I hope I like one of them though! It wouldn't be like just choosing any old name I like.

Has anyone changed their name and felt happier and more successful as a result? What problems if any did you encounter?

Thanks all!

Hahahaha I put Jack in, response "We're sorry... Submitted name was faulty, either too short or too long!" GrinGrinGrin

ShiroiKoibito · 03/04/2017 15:39

what a load of crud!!

purely designed to part you from your money

LonginesPrime · 03/04/2017 15:40

Not my first name, but I definitely felt better having changed my surname back to my maiden name by deed poll following the last day living with my abusive husband.

Once things started to go sour, I realised how important my name was to me as a part of my identity, and felt constrained by the fact that even my name told the world that I was controlled by someone else. It was about the value I'd ascribed to my name as opposed to anything external.

It made me feel so much freer having my own name back - it was such an important thing to me as it's how I presented myself to the world. Any associations that you have with your name (whether positive or negative) are reinforced every time you interact with other people. I suppose it's even more important with first names as they're used even more frequently.

If you feel your name is holding you back, OP, I would go ahead and change it. I don't know anything about numerology so can't speak to that, but I do believe that if you're not keen on your name, that could be having a negative effect on your outlook.

I agree with PP that you should pay for ideas though - just use Google and the baby name threads. I would also try something out for a little while before you change it legally to check you like how it sounds in all contexts.

Rainydayspending · 03/04/2017 15:45

Fools are easily parted from their money.
If you really don't like your name then change it. Don't pay for someone elses fun.

Oysterbabe · 03/04/2017 15:48

I put my name in and it could not be more wrong about me.

juneau · 03/04/2017 15:48

If you want to change your name, fine. But I wouldn't pay any mind (or any money!) to what some charlatan website says! If you hate your name, change it to something you love. End of story.

Ontopofthesunset · 03/04/2017 15:51

Er, you do know that all that stuff is bollocks, don't you ? If you don't like your name, change it. You may feel happier and thus feel more successful generally if you do. But it won't be the name itself affecting this. It will be your perceptions of confidence and happiness.

Itmustbemyage · 03/04/2017 15:52

I just put my name in for fun, totally nothing like me at all.
My sister changed her name, legally, years ago as she didn't like her first name and didn't have a middle name. She chose her nickname as is now very happy she changed. Didn't need the help of a website though.

RebelRogue · 03/04/2017 16:07

Unfortunately as long as you use the name of xxxxx xxxxxx you are drawn into many isolated circumstances where you experience much aloneness and sensitivity and it is difficult to achieve complete fulfilment of your goals and ambitions.

😂😂 This is hilarious. And apparently i get constipated a lot too. Oh and while my first name and surname descriptions kinda fit,my bday one doesn't at all and it sounds really boring and depressing. Maybe I should change my bday?

OP if you want to change your name,go for it. Pick something you love, and feel it represents you/it's you. But don't pay these quacks money. End of the day, anything you achieved in life so far..education,family,career you achieved it with your name.

RebelRogue · 03/04/2017 16:12

Nickname is not a good name to use for it destroys creative ability, imagination and depth of thought. It makes you a very practical, hard working person. Other people find it difficult to get along with you because you are so set in your opinions. You find it hard to show any warmth towards others. You show an interest in the technical aspect of things. If anything mechanical needs fixing, you are quite capable of fixing it. Your desire for heavy foods (meat and starches) can result in constipation, ulcers, and intestinal growths.

My nickname is what i use in social situations. Friendships and relationships. Despite these people i have a great relationship (full of warmth) and amazing friends. Not a lot of them, but real friends i can count on,ring at any time of night,do anything for them and do anything for me. And I couldn't fix something mechanical if my life depended on it. I mean I've been known to nail screws into the wall 😂😂

OlennasWimple · 03/04/2017 16:20

I'll give you 30-50 name suggestions for just a tenner, OP?

easterholidays · 03/04/2017 16:35

My (full-length, unshortened) name is too short for the Kabalarians Sad

But what everyone else has said: take their advice if you wish to but don't give them any money. Even better, pick a name that will make you happy.

DangerDays · 03/04/2017 17:27

I've just tried my first and middle names - very generic responses, meaning pretty much the same thing each time. This reminds me of the way horoscopes and cold reading work - vague statements that can be true for any number of people and encourage you to apply them to specific parts of your life.
Sorry Op, but if you want to change your name, you'd be better off buying a book for expectant parents and just taking one from there.

oblada · 03/04/2017 17:46

This is soo funny! Ran my name through and it was complete nonsense! I agree with others: change your name if you want too but don't pay money to quacks for this!

AssassinatedBeauty · 03/04/2017 17:50

$145 for their name suggestions! Don't give these people $145!

kingscrossnoodle · 03/04/2017 17:56

What a lot of shite.

HTH

WarwickDavisAsPlates · 03/04/2017 18:47

I just ran my name through it and it could not have been more wrong for example:

• You have always been a happy person,--> no I suffer terribly from depression.

• You are fond of surprises and are quick to respond to spontaneous invitations ---> I crave routine and get very anxious if something changes my expectations for the day.
• The most serious drawback of the influence of this name is in the strong emotional feelings that it produces, which are difficult to control and create lack of stability in your thinking or in your affairs.---> just utter nonsense. Does this mean from the moment my parents chose my name I was forever cursed to be an over emotional, spontaneous and happy little chap?

Please don't give these people any money. It's such an obvious con.

The assumption that everyone who has the same name is the same is just crazy. Like your name and birthday, rather than your own lived experiences, dictates your personality and the rest of your life. Madness.

WarwickDavisAsPlates · 03/04/2017 18:48

Apologies for the random stroke through sin my post... I guess MN didn't like my copy and pasting.

WineAndTiramisu · 03/04/2017 19:09

Warwick - yours is the same as my middle name, female name beginning with C? However your use of chap seems to indicate a male name?

My first name did seem a bit like me, but very vague and could match to most people I would think!

RufusTheRenegadeReindeer · 03/04/2017 19:26

Change your name if you like

I heard that adding a y is auspicious

But i wouldnt pay them

I just looked at my name and what they say about it is a complete loads of bollocks

floraeasy · 04/04/2017 12:13

Thanks everyone for your input with this.

I am obviously a whack-job for even considering this. Something my DH would agree with Grin

I have a few ideas for names I'd like. Will have a lot to mull over.

Thanks again!

Post some on here flora

Like a baby names thread

floraeasy · 04/04/2017 12:16

I am looking at ordinary names, if that makes sense.

Perhaps classic or names that would have been used in my era so it would be a more likely "fit".

I like:-

Rachel (I feel I could be comfortable with this - it's actually my sister's middle name)

Jessica (love it but don't feel I could carry it off. I don't "feel" like a Jessica)

A new name will change nothing, you'll still be the same person.

Some education might change your life, perhaps a course in logic, critical thinking, science? Something to push the silly woo and nonsense out of your mind can only help you.

NightWanderer · 04/04/2017 12:20

I knew someone who changed his name on the advice of a fortune teller. Not sure if it brought him better fortune or not though.
