So are they admitting that Bannon should never have been on the NSC? Because this lot really does contrition, right?

cozietoesie · 05/04/2017 23:56

They're admitting nowt. Wink I guess his face will just gradually fall off the edge of those 'birthday pictures'....... Smile

I don't think that interview was a good idea for Ivanka. It's really exposed her in a bad way - and she's getting a LOT of negative reaction to it. Very evasive answers. Just bad all the way around.

peaceout · 06/04/2017 01:46

oh dear Ivanka the vacant
is she a mechanoid?

AcrossthePond55 · 06/04/2017 01:57

I think she's more similar to her dear old dad that people realize.

"I said they're independent, therefore they are".

I don't believe Bannon's removal from the NSC is a sign he is on the way out. He's still there. Just ever more shadowy, and that makes him more dangerous IMO. Trump would not want to make an enemy of him as Bannon is an alt-right hero: those people worship every move he makes. I think they would follow Bannon before Trump, if a choice had to be made. So, I think the NSC removal is a token effort.

Breitbart, in fact, sees it as just a natural administrative step, and are revelling in the Left's joy. A quote:

'Bannon also has said in a statement that his work on the council was complete.

“Susan Rice operationalized the NSC during the last administration,” Bannon said in a statement. “I was put on to ensure that it was de-operationalized."'

I know it's not political but I saw this on Facebook and had to share. An inspirational young woman and potential future President perhaps?

This article says that Bannon's removal from the NSC was down to Kushner.

An article about designs that have been submitted for Trump 's white elephant Mexican wall:
www.thetimes.co.uk/edition/world/mexico-wall-designs-include-nuclear-option-9q98ffh70

There's one design which has a wall, then a pit, then a fence. The pit is to contain nuclear waste, although whether that's meant to be a deterrent or just a storage solution isn't specified.
Another not at all bonkers, honest, idea is to make the wall of one way glass so that the Americans can look out but Mexicans can't look in.

OnTheDarkSideOfTheSpoon · 06/04/2017 08:58

Jim Acosta‏ @Acosta
Bannon was in Situation Room tonight for an NSC meeting, I'm told.. a sign he's not quite out of mix.

TheClaws · 06/04/2017 09:02

Pain, that is curious re: Kushner potentially being the driver of Bannon's ousting. If that is so, I can't see Bannon tolerating such treatment for long. I reckon he'd be the type to flip and start telling tales. As I said, he has a significant loyalty base that are more likely to side with him than Trump (IMO).

Sleipnirthewonderhorse · 06/04/2017 09:17

Ah. I forgot the Times is paywalled. Pictures of potential designs attached. I did wonder if some them were taking the piss, but it's very hard to tell these days.

A good piece on the Bannon story from NY Times:
www.nytimes.com/2017/04/05/us/politics/national-security-council-stephen-bannon.html?smprod=nytcore-iphone&smid=nytcore-iphone-share&_r=0

Quote:

"WASHINGTON — For the first 10 weeks of President Trump’s administration, no adviser loomed larger in the public imagination than Stephen K. Bannon, the raw and rumpled former chairman of Breitbart News who considers himself a “virulently anti-establishment” revolutionary out to destroy the “administrative state.”

But behind the scenes, White House officials said, the ideologist who enjoyed the president’s confidence became increasingly embattled as other advisers, including Mr. Trump’s daughter and son-in-law, complained about setbacks on health care and immigration. Lately, Mr. Bannon has been conspicuously absent from some meetings. And now he has lost his seat at the national security table.

In a move that was widely seen as a sign of changing fortunes, Mr. Trump removed Mr. Bannon, his chief strategist, from the National Security Council’s cabinet-level “principals committee” on Wednesday. The shift was orchestrated by Lt. Gen. H. R. McMaster, Mr. Trump’s national security adviser, who insisted on purging a political adviser from the Situation Room where decisions about war and peace are made.

Mr. Bannon resisted the move, even threatening at one point to quit if it went forward, according to a White House official who, like others, insisted on anonymity to discuss internal deliberations. Mr. Bannon’s camp denied that he had threatened to resign and spent the day spreading the word that the shift was a natural evolution, not a signal of any diminution of his outsize influence."

Those Russian politicians are just awfully clumsy. Always slipping over, falling out of windows and accidentally getting shot in the head at close range. They really should be more careful.

BiglyBadgers · 06/04/2017 10:17

The thing about the Bannon removal from the NSC is that if he had just decided he had done his job on the NSC i think he would have just stopped going along. Why have yourself formally removed from the meeting so he could no longer attend at all? Surely if he was really that important he would still like to have the option of attending, just for the sake of his ego if nothing else. I agree that he is not out the game yet, but this does smell of major infighting and a loss of influence at some level. It will be interesting to see what Breitbart puts out over the coming days, particularly the message on McMaster and Kushner.

Back in the UK we had benefit changes come into force this week. The New Statesmen had an article on the winners and losers. This leader text says it all really

And former operatives. Amazing

Just as it's amazing that random bombs hit a rebel sarin factory in Syria. What were the odds?

cozietoesie · 06/04/2017 11:28

Sleipnir

It's difficult to parody designs more than, these days, they almost parody themselves but two points:

Nuclear waste: I seem to recall alleged plans for putting nuclear waste on the borders of North Korea back in the 1950s. (Prior to Truman's relief of Macarthut.)

Apparently, (!) there were some law enforcement officials north of the border who objected to the wall on the grounds that it interrupted their line of sight.

Both of these may, of course, be scurrilous rumours - but the ideas are not too way out there for even a 'thought' about submission. Wink
