To think that hot cross buns should be eaten hot?

MillieMoodle · 31/03/2017 20:57

My first thread in AIBU, but DH has driven me to write this with his insistence that hot cross buns should be eaten cold with butter and never toasted.

I am of the opinion that HOT cross buns should be toasted first and then smothered in butter.

His opinions on hot cross buns, coupled with his shit taste in biscuits are making me question how on earth we have managed 12 seemingly happy years together.

So, in the case of the hot cross buns, who IBU?!

I need a hot cross bun now....Grin

scaryteacher · 31/03/2017 21:55

Toasted with lots of unsalted butter and a good wodge of mature cheddar.

MillieMoodle · 31/03/2017 21:56

Titsy DH says that when they're cold there is a sticky glaze over the top of the bun, which is lost when they're toasted. I have to concede that he's right on that point but they still taste better toasted. If I wanted fruity bread, I'd buy fruity bread.

Oooh, an I the only one who likes them warmed up in the microwave?
I'm a heathen, I know Smile

Hardyloveit · 31/03/2017 21:59

Def hot smothered in butter!

Definitely named my favourite biscuits! Shock

blackteasplease · 31/03/2017 21:59

Yanbu

Ex mil has this idea about eating them cold but it's because she can never be arsed with anything.

MillieMoodle · 31/03/2017 22:00

Well that doesn't sound too bad. Much better than cold cross buns anyway. Sometimes I warm bread up in the microwave so the butter melts on it Blush

Cold or hot!
Not helpful but they are so versatile!
Toasted with butter, loverly but they dont fit well in the toaster.
Cold with cheese also nice.
But they don't even NEED butter I can just eat them out of the pack!

jmh740 · 31/03/2017 22:05

I stand in the kitchen and eat one cold (halved and spread with butter) while I'm waiting for one to finish in the toaster.

They should be toasted... however, I bought some Waitrose cherry and almond ones the other day, got home and ate 2 straight from the packet...with some lurpack on, they were lovely, but then again I WAS starving!!
I toasted the other 2 for DH this morning and have to say, the toasted ones smelt wonderful!!

Ameliablue · 31/03/2017 22:16

Better warmed

Madeyemoodysmum · 31/03/2017 22:16

Toasted!!!!!! Lashings of salted butter

rubberducker · 31/03/2017 22:21

We never toasted them at home when I was growing up. Revelation when I had one toasted for the first time. But now I eat them either way depending on what mood I'm in.

Although my real guilty pleasure is the M&S chocolate and fudge ones toasted with peanut butter!

TomaytoTomahto · 31/03/2017 22:21

Definitely hot with melted butter! Also toasted with bacon and emmentaler because why not.

rubberducker · 31/03/2017 22:21

I'm going to try one with cheese after reading this thread.

RiversrunWoodville · 31/03/2017 22:22

Must be toasted and have loads of proper butter. Although tbf the cheese thing is an interesting one never thought of that.

ragz134 · 31/03/2017 22:24

One of my sons prefers them cold. I swear, he's not mine. YANBU.

BonnesVacances · 31/03/2017 22:27

It depends. I mostly prefer them toasted but the Asda ones are delicious cold.

LadyLoveYourWhat · 31/03/2017 22:28

I eat them both ways according to mood. Cold with lemon curd (and I think butter too) if you want a real treat.

AlexanderHamilton · 31/03/2017 22:30

Never eaten them. But I've always assumed they are called hot cross buns because they are spiced.

kierenthecommunity · 31/03/2017 22:34

Oooh, an I the only one who likes them warmed up in the microwave?

Nope, me too. With butter and jam

kel1493 · 31/03/2017 22:35

Oh no, I only like them cold with proper butter and strawberry jam

AdaColeman · 31/03/2017 22:43

Toasted and eaten hot with lashings of melting salty butter is the best way.

On rare occasions I've had to have them cold, but they are very second rate, even with added jam.

Sounds as though you need your own biscuit tin Millie possibly hidden and secret, those biscuits are all school tuck shop types, not proper biscuits at all.
