To help a mangy scrap of fox?

I know I know, urban foxes get a lot of bad press. Yes they are naughty when they rip open bin bags and make a mess.

And yet, I think they are beautiful. We live in a block of flats (on the back of a big park) and around about Christmas time I noticed one sloping about at night. Actually we used to have a lot of mice/rats down where the rubbish room is so maybe he was attracted to that. He's beautiful- all rusty and bushy. I know it's a bit naughty but I started slipping him the odd bit of chicken or bit of ham. I would never want to get too close as he should be wary of humans would kill to stroke that gorgeous tail but he knows where I live and he will often trot by about 11pm to see if I'm at my window.

So a few nights ago he started bringing a little friend. I thought he looked a bit odd- like stumpy and mishapen and tonight I got a good look at him and he's all bald-patched and mangy Sad

Poor little scrap! And also it'll probably spread to my beautiful original fox as it's contagious. Can I help him? Are there mange tablets you can put in food? He comes every night pretty much so he would eat it. Would dog tablets work? Obviously I couldn't bathe him or give him drops totally would if I could

Please can I add the foxes are very respectful of the neighbours. They do all their shagging in the park and they can't get into the bins! There are a couple of cats here but they are totally unbothered by them.

That's Scrap with her kits in pic 3- I think she looks pretty good now considering what she was like when she first showed up!

OMG, that's made my day: thanks so much for the update. How is Scrap doing? Is that Scrap with the cubs?

StoatofDisarray · 30/05/2017 12:20

Cross-post!

They are so beautiful :)

HarrietKettleWasHere · 30/05/2017 14:38

Thanks Smile am smitten with the little scamps. The chunky one with black feet is Nelson but there's three more to name... please feel free to suggest! It seems fitting after all the lovely foxy support oh this thread!

What a beautiful family Grin

BlueKarou · 30/05/2017 15:30

Oh I am so glad this came back up on my Active Threads. What an adorable little family! I'm so jealous. My garden is usually filled with cats, dogs and ferrets, so not a chance of a fox family moving in.

Scrap looks so diddy in that latest set of pictures, good work on feeding her up; those cubs are too cute.

PurpleDaisies · 30/05/2017 15:32

This thread is adorable. It's cheered me right up today.

Reow · 30/05/2017 15:33

EEEKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKK.

Oh my god they're amazing. You're a good girl OP.

(FUCK YOU TERESA MAY)

LoveMySituation · 30/05/2017 17:29

They are beautiful Harriet. Are you still having to do the mange treatment? As for names, maybe one could be May as they were born in this month, Joy as they bring lots of it?Grin I suppose its hard to know what sexes they are, especially with scrap turning into a girlGrin

Schroedingerscatagain · 30/05/2017 18:31

They're looking just fab, you should be really proud of yourself

As for names, Basil? That shows my age sadly

You've really cheered up my half term stuck in with teenagers today

HarrietKettleWasHere · 30/05/2017 19:53

I think Basil and May are lovely!
They could definitely stick!
Indeed it is a bit hard to tell the sexes though Grin Scrap did throw a curveball!

What a wonderful thread - love the recent pics. If that's scrap in the pic then homeopathic or not the treatment has clearly done a great job. As someone else said - you've prob saved her life and therefore those 4 adorable cubs too :). Brilliant work OP!

Oh and I'm still laughing at the porno badger pic - check me ouuuuut!

HarrietKettleWasHere · 02/06/2017 15:27

That is indeed Scrap Smile

She honestly does look so much better- I was massively sceptical about he drops I got sent. But she really has improved.

Love the pics!!!

Was at a rescue farm last week which take in a variety of animals, and one of the owners takes in loads of foxes, helps them heal then releases them on a special site in small groups.

When I was there he was in bits because he'd bonded with this adorable baby girl, and another lady arrived who was also sobbing with two baby foxes she'd had a few weeks who were also being released.

People who foster are amazing, as it's impossible not to fall for some of them.

Got to cuddle the baby girl who was totally chilled out and adorable. And so tiny!

Well done on helping her OP :) So great to see her looking so well.

HarrietKettleWasHere · 02/06/2017 21:05

Aww you cuddled a baby fox Glitter! That must have been amazing. They are so gorgous.

Hi op how're your babies doing? Anything like this one?!

HarrietKettleWasHere · 03/09/2017 09:36

Just an update, if anyone is still reading...my fox 'children' visit occasionally! Once a week or so. Nelson with his black ears and socks is very distinctive and seems to be King of the Carpark.

This is his sister, Vicky, who came by last night.

Good for you OP!! I don't have any advice but I just wanted to say that from a fellow animal lover 👍

Partypolitics99 · 03/09/2017 09:56

Lovely thread and fantastic update Smile

Karmapolicearrestthisman · 03/09/2017 10:04

Well done, OP. What gorgeous animals! I used to feed a fox when I lived in Brighton.

I lived in a house full of vegetarians so panicked one day and placed an egg outside. The fox picked it up and carried it off in his mouth. It became a routine :)

RLBabyObservation · 03/09/2017 10:19

Just read this whole thread. Absolutely lovely and gorgeous pics and videos.
Well done Harriet for giving the foxes some much needed care.

I saw this gorgeous fox a couple of days ago in downstairs garden.

Foxes love eggs!

Aw he's a handsome boy- looks like he's playing! They're really playful actually, so lovely to watch- 'my' ones found an old slipper from who knows where abs had hours of fun with that!

I love this thread! Can't believe I've only just seen it. Brilliant update.

We have foxes that visit, so have installed a Wildlife Camera - we love watching them.
