To help a mangy scrap of fox?

I know I know, urban foxes get a lot of bad press. Yes they are naughty when they rip open bin bags and make a mess.

And yet, I think they are beautiful. We live in a block of flats (on the back of a big park) and around about Christmas time I noticed one sloping about at night. Actually we used to have a lot of mice/rats down where the rubbish room is so maybe he was attracted to that. He's beautiful- all rusty and bushy. I know it's a bit naughty but I started slipping him the odd bit of chicken or bit of ham. I would never want to get too close as he should be wary of humans would kill to stroke that gorgeous tail but he knows where I live and he will often trot by about 11pm to see if I'm at my window.

So a few nights ago he started bringing a little friend. I thought he looked a bit odd- like stumpy and mishapen and tonight I got a good look at him and he's all bald-patched and mangy Sad

Poor little scrap! And also it'll probably spread to my beautiful original fox as it's contagious. Can I help him? Are there mange tablets you can put in food? He comes every night pretty much so he would eat it. Would dog tablets work? Obviously I couldn't bathe him or give him drops totally would if I could

Please can I add the foxes are very respectful of the neighbours. They do all their shagging in the park and they can't get into the bins! There are a couple of cats here but they are totally unbothered by them.

George199 you have a lovely amusing way of talking about the foxes!

There are in fact FOUR totally adorable little cubs- it has been a miserable wet day here but stopped raining now and they are out and about with mum and dad Smile

It's very dark for pictures but DP caught a little smidge of cub on his camera...will upload that if we can't get better ones!

I just hope no one gets cross with them being here. I can't be the only one that knows about them.

So beautiful Grin this is one of the best threads ever. Thanks for sharing.

HarrietKettleWasHere · 22/05/2017 14:20

Thanks Smile they are so sweet and it's lovely watching them playing at night! One of them is much braver than the others and has a proper explore before he gets called back by mum and dad!

Eek! Are you going to name them?

DoNotBlameMeIVotedRemain · 22/05/2017 14:30

You've done a good thing OP. Halo

HarrietKettleWasHere · 22/05/2017 14:31

I want to call the brave one Nelson! The other three I can't tell apart yet!

Am loving the updates OP. And am loving foxes more than i did before you started your thread too. The baby is so cute. The hunt passed by my window late last year, not long after moving into this house, and I was horrified and shocked, I had forgotten that its still around in some way. Hopefully it stays as it is (I know it has its problems and it is not easy to enforce, but better than nothing IMO)

LoveMySituation · 27/05/2017 20:17

What noises do they make to get Nelson to come back? The fox equivalent of cats chirrups?!

HarrietKettleWasHere · 27/05/2017 23:07

Sort of a clicky sound Grin then Russel will go and chase him back.

They are all quite bold now though! And getting big. I'm away this weekend but DP is giving me updates and has on my instruction out tubs of water under the bushes as it's been so dry. They have a makeshift den under there...there was a KFC box and one from Pizza Hut but we have cleared them up Blush

You are lovely op!!! I hope your wee pals get better once you give them their meds.

I love them we have loads but we live semi rural, they used to kill my chickens and I still love them.

Mustang27 · 27/05/2017 23:23

Oh got to love the picture of the one chewed up glove......oh the carnage how will we ever get by lol.

Ah the babies all so cute.

LoveMySituation · 27/05/2017 23:37

A clicky sound Harriet? Is Russell a metronomeGrin

AlmostAJillSandwich · 27/05/2017 23:53

What a cute fuzzy warm feeling giving update! I wish i lives somewhere you get to see wildlife. We had a family of 3 Deer in our local cemetery last spring, but i think they moved on when winter hit, ther wasn't anywhere covered for them to sleep.

LoveMySituation · 28/05/2017 22:35

Am loving the KFC and PH boxes in their denGrin Visions of them going in to order at the counter walking on their hind legsGrin

beardymcbeardy · 30/05/2017 11:41

Best. Thread. Ever.

Moanyoldcow · 30/05/2017 11:54

Just discovered this thread - it's gorgeous.

I've got a big fox living at the end of my garden and he and his mate often bask in our garden. I think they're utterly gorgeous and I'm desperate for them to have cubs.

I'm so glad they're are so many fox-lovers here.

Confusedbutton · 30/05/2017 12:04

Cutest thread ever :)
