To think dw shouldn't tell dh off in public??

Or anywhere really!!
Just witnessed in Primark a woman about 35 telling her dh off!! Loudly!!
"I told you to stop doing that!! "
I looked around for a 'naughty' dc tbh!!
Her dh was carrying a giggling toddler ds who he was quite endearingly engaging with while she browsed. Nothing silly or loud - both in their own little world actually!! - and sweet to see!!
Again she shouted the same words. Then I realised she was talking to her dh!! I felt myself stare and I felt so embarrassed for the poor man!! He carried on with his df/ds moments and ignored her!! But who did she think she was??

Do couples not fight anymore? I'm just a little confused by some of the comments on here... it's not okay for two adults to shout at one another? If my DH and I didn't argue or occasionally shout at one another, I'm pretty sure we would have divorced long ago!!

I don't condone shouting at one another in public at all but this lady merely snapped at him a few times to 'stop it'. She didn't call him a useless sack of shit, did she? You don't know her... or him. Move on with your life.

Bertrand I did say I got stressed about being judged. I did not feel I needed to give my entire life history to justify my choices on something quite small, knowing the person felt stressed would surely be enough?

I did the "drip feed"/massive unnecessary over share because I felt judged and patronised by your response tbh.
If someone just wanted to fit in, wpuld they deserve their partner mocking them?
If someone has different views on children's clothes to you, do they deserve mocking unless they have a medical note.

You are right. I should not have drip fed. I should have simply reiterated that the situation made me feel uncomfortable and thus - whether it was for a serious reason or shallow - he wound me up.

Surely a fight/row is 2 people tho? She was talking down to him like he was a naughty dc!!

This is why I get anxious about MN. How to write a post that doesn't derail, but knowing if you use any short hand people might go in on their high horse then have a go because youdrip fed.
I honestly thought the paint old nursery clothes was an innocuous example of a small battle so to speak. Evidently not as I have been forced to justify twice then accused of drip feedinfeed in because stress is not enough of a reason.
Unless MN members know it's a diagnosed illness they can patronise and mock.

There was absolutely nothing in your first post to suggest that you were being anything but silly about the "naice" cafe.

If I had known then what I know now, then of course I wouldn't have posted as I did, and of course you dp is being an arse about it.and I am sorry if what I posted upset you.

squizita · 30/03/2017 18:22

There was mention of the word "stress". Surely being "stressed" isn't just a silly preference? It indicates worry or unpleasant association rather than "ooh let's just wear a frou frou frock".
Maybe the word has become so over used it's lost its meaning I guess.

Doyouwantabrew · 30/03/2017 18:36

sqizita he sounds a nasty bastard love. Reasons to be with him?

Don't take comments to heart sometimes other posters are just offering their view and it can come across hardly when it was not intended to snd people joke too not meaning to really hurt.

Doyouwantabrew · 30/03/2017 18:36

Harsh not hardly

brickinitIam · 30/03/2017 18:41

You don't know what he was actually doing that wound her up to be fair, only what it looked like he was doing to you.

It doesn't matter. You still don't belittle your OH in public.
Once the respect is gone it's a slippery slope.

She belittled him in front of other people. That's not on.
I would say exactly the same if it were the other way around and a man was talking down or shouting at his wife in front of other people.

Kalitall · 30/03/2017 19:18

I don't think there's nearly enough information here to judge the situation. I'm finding it hard to believe she meant "I've told you to stop being nice to our child".
