To think some people don't realise how much living costs?!

I am so fed up!

Constantly having the same argument with a colleague who tells me 'if you just saved your money you could go to the maldvies like me' and various other ludicrous things.

She lives at home with her mum, doesn't pay rent or bills to her, has no kids and earns circa £60k a year.

I on the other hand earn half her wage, pay £1k a month childcare and am trying to get by with London rent!!

It is every day without fail she tells me I bring it upon myself that I don't do nice things, I must just be throwing my money away.

Yes Sandra, if I earned double my wage with no expenses I probably could drive a lovely Range Rover like you but I don't so shut the hell up.

AIBU to think some people do not live in the real world?!

And any tips for calming the dragon that is sandra?

I'd fucking hate her life. The thought of living with parents at that age horrifies me!

StrangeLookingParasite · 29/03/2017 19:44

The Maldives is another horrendous theocracy, where the statuts of women sucks and non-muslims are not allowed to be citizens. Open practice of any other religion is forbidden and liable to prosecution.
Not a place I would visit until their human rights record improves a great deal.

Just show her this

Summersunshine222 · 29/03/2017 19:51

How old is she op? And what line of work?

MargaretCavendish · 29/03/2017 19:53

Erm, happy did you just declare that you're a mortgage advisor who regularly helps people to buy properties that you can predict they won't be able to afford? This is how crashes happen...

badabing36 · 29/03/2017 20:00

MargaretCavendish

Don't worry the little dahlings will be bailed out.

Dagnabit · 29/03/2017 20:01

Next time she starts, just rub her on the shoulder and say, "bless..." while smiling the best patronising smile you can muster.

TizzyDongue · 29/03/2017 20:02

I read Happy's post as she helps people buy properties they can afford, but some of those people as so clueless they carry living life like they don't have new household outgoing so get themselves into credit card debt trying to keep living life like they did at mum and dad's.

NoArmaniNoPunani · 29/03/2017 20:02

That's quite a shitty way to misinterpret Happy's post margaret

TinselTwins · 29/03/2017 20:03

Just say "oooooh Sandra, it's not that I don't do nice things, it's just that I enjoy them without needing to boast about them!"

TinselTwins · 29/03/2017 20:05

Also not how I read it at all, I read it as they could afford it IF they took the responsibility seriously… but some don't. Not the mortgage brokers fault, they judge affordabiliy not common sense!

TinselTwins · 29/03/2017 20:07

Or, "no, If I could afford landrovers and Maldives I'ld make more ethical and imaginative choices than that!"

BikeRunSki · 29/03/2017 20:08

I must work with Sandra's brother. DrIves a brand new car; buys posh deli lunch every day; goes on foreign holidays a couple of times a year. Lives with his parents because he "can't afford a deposit". Has the audacity to comment if I buy a sandwhich (rather than bring my habitual pack up) because I once mentioned that my childcare bill was nearly £1000/month (and only when someone asked me!).

Me too.

A mortgage that is affordable on their income if they spend sensibly, but they've no experience of spending sensibly.

yayforsummer · 29/03/2017 20:08

Just tell her to fuck off

SecretNetter · 29/03/2017 20:11

every day without fail she tells me I bring it upon myself that I don't do nice things, I must just be throwing my money away

Tbh I think you're probably encouraging her op. If someone out of the blue says this the obvious and only response would be 'Er...What on Earth makes you think I don't do nice things?!?'

Unless of course she has to sit there listening to you moaning about not doing nice things?

Itsmytemporaryname · 29/03/2017 20:11

Why does Sandra think it's her business?
I'm struggling to imagine how this would come up in conversation?

toffeeboffin · 29/03/2017 20:15

'I'm not liking Sandra'

Grin

Why does she actually live with her mum? Zone 1? --so she's a rich bitch too-

NameChanger22 · 29/03/2017 20:15

I work with someone called Sandra, she doesn't earn 60k, she earns 16k. She doesn't go on holidays to the Maldives or sponge off her mum. She moans all the time because she's 60 and working harder than she's ever worked. I think I like my Sandra more than your Sandra.

toffeeboffin · 29/03/2017 20:15

Bloody small line fail

TrollMummy · 29/03/2017 20:16

Perhaps mention to Sandra that if she stopped going on luxury holidays and saves more she could afford finally to grow up and leave home.

Although my MIL, who is extremely wealthy despite never working a day in her life, often makes suggestions about how we should really buy a new car or something. She has absolutely no idea what it's like to pay a mortgage and worry about bills. One day I snapped and and pulled out a bank statement showing money in and bills out - she soon shut up.

TinselTwins · 29/03/2017 20:19

me too! If someone started suggesting ways I could save for the maldives I'ld smile and say "it's not really on my list, I'ld rather a trip to iceland!" and that would probably be that

i wonder if the op is a "lucky for some!!!" type?

SillySongsWithLarry · 29/03/2017 20:19

I don't like the sound of Sandra either.

Dagnabit · 29/03/2017 20:20

I have an Auntie called Sandra, she works in a supermarket, I don't think she's been to the Maldives and she doesn't drive. She is lovely though.

Whereshalligoonholiday · 29/03/2017 20:35

I love the meme and might just go for 'fuck off sandra ' her mum has a great house so I don't really blame her but yes she's 31 living with her mum! She says it when for example I say I've booked a holiday it's .. oh you could've got much better. Or if she asks what I did at the weekend it's 'oh I went to x y z' or she sees my deliveries and it's 'you wouldn't have to shop there if you just saved up' or it's the fact I don't have a car, or that me and dp are planning a small wedding etc.. I could rant all day!!

I really dislike Sandra too, she is my manager!
