Someone on Radio 4 has just said that priority should be given to the position of 3 million EU residents in the UK and the 1.5 million of UK residents in the EU.

OMG - how did that happen - the whole 27 EU countries get 1.5 million of us and we get 3 million of them.
Thank heavens we are getting out of that scenario before it gets worse!

historygeek12 · 29/03/2017 07:51

pleased

BertrandRussell · 29/03/2017 07:55

"OMG - how did that happen - the whole 27 EU countries get 1.5 million of us and we get 3 million of them"

Possibly because people from other EU countries a) can speak English and have skills we want and the reverse does not apply and b) not many people from Spain think that Sittingbourne is a lovely sunny place to spend their retirement years.

IndianWinter · 29/03/2017 07:59

Gloria It was the UK under Tonie Blair that was all for inviting Eastern Europeans into the EU and not phasing migration from Poland etc. Other countries didn't allow astern European workers to all come at once. So they all came here and contributed to the economy.

IndianWinter · 29/03/2017 08:02

nickoftime

"What is everyone so pleased about"

They can never say. It's much like men saying they are women. They can never explain what it is that 'makes' them 'female'. It's a feeeeeeeeling. Nothing to do with rationality nor reason.

Livelovebehappy · 29/03/2017 08:13

Bring it on!! Exciting new era for the UK. No longer answerable to the Euro fat cats. Only 36% are 'sad' about the trigger of A50 (which I'm sure will reduce further as the process progresses), so all good!

Frazzled2207 · 29/03/2017 08:14

Horrified and ashamed.

Torn between wanting to be proved wrong and for everything to basically work out ok, and wanting those who voted Brexit to find out what a bloody stupid thing to do it was. Probably the former on balance though.

What 36%of the country or this thread

wowfudge · 29/03/2017 08:17

Really disappointed.

remoaniac · 29/03/2017 08:19

I have zero interest in saying "I told you so" and have stopped following as many Remainers on Twitter as I have Leavers, as they are so unremittingly miserable.

The next two years is a good time to watch box sets and ignore the news. On 28 March 2019 a deal of sorts will be reached - all at the last minute after much posturing and bluster from both sides. Heaven forbid that a politician should think of the people rather than their own ego (Jo Cox fits that category but there are not many like she was) but I imagine that they will see some sense ultimately and agree something reasonably sensible.

But I still fear for the future of the UK and that's probably my biggest concern now.

Ni is in disarray and being treated like a sideshow. Gibraltar appears to be being ignored, the Channel Islands and Isle of Man didn't even get a vote and it's all about the Tory right and what they want.

Londonjam · 29/03/2017 08:20

Devastated

Livelovebehappy · 29/03/2017 08:31

Rufus; 36% of the country. I suspect more like 75% of mumsnetters though.

RufusTheRenegadeReindeer · 29/03/2017 08:34

Thanks live

Well no one asked me

So once again someone speaking for me Smile

And i reckon the 75% mumsnetters statistic is bollocks as well

stayathomegardener · 29/03/2017 08:45

Pissed

squishysquirmy · 29/03/2017 08:46

93% of statistics are made up Rufus.
Probably by some EU quango.

IndianWinter · 29/03/2017 08:49

"93% of statistics are made up Rufus.
Probably by some EU quango." Proof please?

shovetheholly · 29/03/2017 08:51

Could the Mumsnet majority be partly explained by education levels? There's a persistent correlation between remain and high levels of formal education - the % voting for it increases with demographics who have a degree, with the greatest levels of conviction amongst those with PhDs.

squishysquirmy · 29/03/2017 08:52

"Proof" is such an outdated concept IndianWinter.
It's all about feeeelings now.

MegCleary · 29/03/2017 08:54

Pissed off Sad

ScarletForYa · 29/03/2017 08:55

Irritated.

squishysquirmy · 29/03/2017 08:56

98% of EU quangos exist only in Farage's disturbed imagination.

justgothesolution · 29/03/2017 08:58

Sad - disbelief that it has come to this.

Gloria that's the sort of attitude I feel ashamed of being a Brit. I am not part of that attitude or mind set and hate living with a bunch of people who are.

mayoli · 29/03/2017 08:59

pissed off / worried / scared / intrigued (scottish)

specialsubject · 29/03/2017 09:00

Neither - if that is allowed.

We were between a rock and a hard place. Nothing to celebrate either way. Let's hope it all works out, with sense and co operation it can.

specialsubject · 29/03/2017 09:01

shovetheholly - evidence for your statement please. Were the votes counted and compared against each person's education? Or is this the likes of me on yougov, just giving the easiest answers for the points?
