Who is BU?

I'm posting this as I disagree with a friend, who told me something that happened to them last week (I won't say which person in the story the friend is) and it got me thinking - who is BU?
It doesn't really matter, as I didn't feel the need to voice my opinion and risk an argument with a dear friend, although I'd be interested to hear the opinions of others.
Last week, a class of 10 year olds went on a school trip and each child was responsible for their belongings (coat and lunch bag, basically). After the trip was over, at home time, child said they'd left their lunch bag at the visit site. The teacher phoned where they'd visited and yes, it was there.
Whose responsibility is it to collect the bag? The teacher or parent? If it matters, the visit site is about half an hour's drive away.

Parent. I have a 10yo and expect him to not leave stuff behind on trips. I certainly don't expect a teacher to be responsible!

The parent.

AdaColeman · 27/03/2017 20:15

Parent.

Is your friend the child's mother and thinks that the teacher should have collected the box?

Parent. DS1 is 11 and has ASD but is still totally responsible for his own stuff. I work in a school and the amount of parents who come in expecting lost items to be replaced is unreal. Teach children to take care of their stuff, teach them responsibility.

I think, the teacher went above and beyond phoning. I suspect cost of retrieval is more than cost of buying a new one.

Also agree that the parent should collect.

PebbleInTheMoonlight · 27/03/2017 20:22

Parent.

I've had to collect stuff because my daughter has a pathological tendency to forget stuff and wouldn't dream of expecting the teacher to collect it if worth collecting even though they know she will almost always leave something behind (the really good teachers make it part of their routine... eg "Do we have everyone? Pebble's daughter do you have your stuff?" because they feel sorry for me Blush )

Our school also specifies that lunch should be brought in a disposable bag so it doesn't matter if it gets left behind
