Who is BU?

I'm posting this as I disagree with a friend, who told me something that happened to them last week (I won't say which person in the story the friend is) and it got me thinking - who is BU?
It doesn't really matter, as I didn't feel the need to voice my opinion and risk an argument with a dear friend, although I'd be interested to hear the opinions of others.
Last week, a class of 10 year olds went on a school trip and each child was responsible for their belongings (coat and lunch bag, basically). After the trip was over, at home time, child said they'd left their lunch bag at the visit site. The teacher phoned where they'd visited and yes, it was there.
Whose responsibility is it to collect the bag? The teacher or parent? If it matters, the visit site is about half an hour's drive away.

The parent.
The teacher has told the kids to keep their bags and look after them and usually before leaving a trip when you do roll call on the bus theres a shout out 'has everyone got everything they need'.

soapboxqueen · 27/03/2017 19:40

The parent unless the child has a particular sn which might make it difficult for them to remember everything and the staff should have factored that in when leaving.

bunnylove99 · 27/03/2017 19:40

Parent. Although as anyoldname76 points out above, its probably better nobody wasting the time and petrol but buying a new lunch pack instead. In fact, the purchase of an inferior lunch pack might teach the child a lesson too!

Parent - but as someone said before who'd bother - can probably get a cheap one for less than the cost of petrol

podrig · 27/03/2017 19:49

Parent!

altiara · 27/03/2017 19:50

This is probably why at my DCs school we pack their lunch in a plastic bag and are told everything has to be disposable on school trips!

PurpleDaisies · 27/03/2017 19:51

Another vote for parent.

What's your view?

MadamePomfrey · 27/03/2017 19:53

Definitely parent what was your friends argument for it being the teacher?

Blossomdeary · 27/03/2017 19:54

The parent of course - no question.

Friolero · 27/03/2017 19:54

I'd say parent too - looks fairly unanimous!

RebootYourEngine · 27/03/2017 19:54

I think your friend is the parent and they are responsible for picking up the lunch bag or buying a new one.

happypoobum · 27/03/2017 20:02

Parent - come on OP - spill Grin

FiveGoMadInDorset · 27/03/2017 20:03

Parent and this why at DC's school they get told a to take everything in a plastic bag and not a lunchbox

Universitychallenging · 27/03/2017 20:04

Five that's true. DC used to have to take everything in a plastic bag and it all had to be binnable nothing brought back

seriouslyenoughalready · 27/03/2017 20:05

parent, obviously. but 30min drive is really not worth the time, effort or fuel cost of a lunch ox IMO

Theimpossiblegirl · 27/03/2017 20:06

This is pretty unanimous- the parent. I wouldn't bother though.

parent, obviously, no question. (I am a teacher and a parent)

Hulababy · 27/03/2017 20:06

Parent

10y should be responsible for own bag.
I suspect the teachers told them to gather their stuff to go to the coach. They normally do. Even if they didn't, its still the 10 year old's job to remember.

The teacher is responsible for keeping check of the children, not their belongings.

Porpoiselife · 27/03/2017 20:07

Teacher!!!

Just kidding Grin parent of course
