I think (from my knowledge via West Wing ) that the follow ups are done in person with the reporter who asked the question. I guess if they don't get an answer they will bring it up in a later Briefing.

To me though, it is just code for "I don't know" and if used too often makes the briefer look either out of the loop or plain stupid.

cozie it might not be that trump is trying to communicate to Flynn directly but is signalling to his core base that this is the attitude to take towards Flynn; that he's being persecuted and anything else no matter how damning is just fake news.

Myself, I think he just splurges what's on the tip of his tongue. If it's a 'personal' tweet that is.

I agree cozie and think he just rants what ever is in his head at that moment. I read this tweet as saying that the Dems are trying to set up Trump and co because they lost the election. So Flynn's request for immunity is not for actual really criminal acts, but from the fake crimes the Dems are making up about them. Basically 'its all FAKE NEWS! LIES!!! Bad LOSERS! SAD!!' or words to that effect. There will be hardcore supporters who will go to their graves believing Trump is being set up. Most people will see these tweets as increasingly deranged.

I agree it's a risky game. But I think it's one that's played daily in the business world that Trump's used to inhabiting. He still doesn't realise he's 'not in Kansas anymore' and this isn't 'the art of the deal'.

Hopefully that misjudgment will be his downfall.

His 'deals' are now also subject to scrutiny and analysis which they weren't before, really. And he could always go bankrupt.

I guess that what I meant by that was that, in the past, he had a 'fallback' position. I don't think he has one now.

What does that mean? (I mean, I know what it means but what are the implications?) Does that mean he now won't testify? Surely if he wanted immunity he must have done something wrong and then needs to be forced to testify?

I'm assuming (hoping) it means they have enough on him that they can take him down and have no need to do a deal with him
