illegitimate Here's the 'high point timeline' for Watergate. Much more went on of course, but these are the major events:
9/1971, Break in at Daniel Ellsberg's psychiatrist's office by the 'Plumbers' (this is the first break in)
6/1972 Watergate break-in & arrest of the 'Plumbers'
11/1972 Nixon reelected
4/1973 John Dean starts spilling the beans
5/1973 Senate hearings begin, Independent Prosecutor appointed
5/1973-2/1974 multiple resignations, indictments, convictions, confessions during this period
3/1974 Nixon named as an 'un-indicted co-conspirator', more convictions, indictments, and pleas the next two months
5/1974 Impeachment hearings begin before the House Judiciary Committee
7/1974 HJC passes articles of impeachment
8/1874 Nixon resigns
So where are we with Trump? Probably somewhere around the 'Nixon reelected' point in the Watergate timeline. We know that crimes have been committed, but there is still no provable 'tie' to Trump. And we don't yet (as far as we know) have a 'John Dean' singing like a canary. Once we get to that point, it'll probably be another 18 months or so if Trump has covered his tracks with regards to Russia, and I'm pretty sure he has. And that's if Trump resigns. If they have to actually impeach him, he'll probably be within a few months to a year of finishing his term before he's actually impeached.
I remember Watergate well, I was in my late teens. I was fascinated by it all and watched the hearings and followed things closely.
