My son is hilarious . . . and he loves me this much!

DS 1 (early 20s) had clearly overlooked Mother's Day not for the first time but fortunately his girlfriend gave him a nudge. So he made a card for me . . .

In fact, he typed it on an old-fashioned typewriter. The front cover of the folded A4 piece of paper stated: "You are my mother."

On the inside it read: "Your gift is having a son like me."

A few spaces down and then (not lined up!): "You're welcome." Smile

He had "wrapped" it in an old cardboard box that the cat is now sleeping in.

I haven't laughed so much for a long time. However, quality-wise it doesn't quite match DS2's effort of a couple of years ago when he was about 10 years old. In cartoon style, he'd made a 3-2-1 card that started with a hand-drawn picture of a normal-ish looking chicken and ended with an exploding chicken.

I feel so blessed to have two sons who love me so much Wink

I bet nobody has received such personalised cards as me!!!

Haha Anathema. Lucky you to get the chocolates but don't you feel just a little envious of some of the personalised messages?!

Ahhhh, TheFirst - how lovely. Your DC sounds very special and is clearly lucky to have you.

Re: the apostrophe: "Mother's Day" or "Mothers' Day".

Google the origins of the day. The intention was for each mother to feel it was her own day, not one day for all mothers to be celebrated generally. Whilst this is evidence of the Hallmark creation we all know the day is, it states the placing of the apostrophe is intentional (either that or it's the most elaborate excuse for a grammatical error that there has ever been!)

I know this because I too am a pedant and looked it up when creating card to send to my mum (and DH's mum wish I hadn't bothered )

TheFirstMrsDV · 26/03/2017 16:50

I was properly choked by it thereis
Its not easy for him.

Its nice to be reassured I am doing something right Smile

GreatFuckability · 26/03/2017 16:51

My 9 year old put a picture of me in a CD case and wrote 'you are much older now than you were then but you are almost as bewtiful'.
thats love!

also, 12 year old who is severely dyslexic wrote 'to mam ai luv you'. all on his own. thats utterly priceless to me.

the oldest one sent me a snapchat that said i was 'annoying, but i love you'.

I'm the happiest mother on earth today.

AllllGooone · 26/03/2017 16:56

I got the following heartfelt poem, try not to cry:

Roses are red,
Violets are purple,
Daisies are white,
I like flowers,
Sunflowers are also yellow.

DS 5 wrote
I luv you to al the way to maz

Maz being Mars

(His writing is unclear at the best of times, but managed to read it. His twin sister mainly drew love hearts and kisses, and wrote too mummee, luv you to the moon

Heh, great cards, OP.

I didn't get cards this year. DH decided to take the children to play in the sun yesterday so ran out of time to help them make cards.

But my five year old gave me a handful of shells and daisies, my 2 year old cuddled up in bed with me this morning and tried to steal my breakfast, and the baby still looks at me like I'm the most important person in the world so I'm feeling loved. (Plus they got me flowers yesterday and DH plunked a large box of Ferrero Rocher on the table.)

MrsV That's so lovely.

UpsyDaisyluvsIgglePiggle · 26/03/2017 17:14

Dh helped 2 year old dd buy me a card. She didn't like the mothers day cards, but she did like a peppa pig happy birthday sister card. I received a peppa pig happy birthday sister card. She stood and watched me open it and then took it off me so she could keep her peppa pig card Grin

NewPuppyMum · 26/03/2017 17:20

TheFirstMrsDV yours made me tearful

My 11 year old wrote, thank you for being the best Mummy and telling me of when I need to be.

We've had a chat about the missing f..

AnathemaPulsifer · 26/03/2017 17:21

Each of them had filled one half of the card with effusive praise of my wonderfulness as a mother. Feeling very lucky indeed today (and about time after years when they were too little to sort it themselves and H/exH didn't do a damn thing to help then so I got nothing).

Grrrr DS2 just came to look at the thread. He wrote the "hi" - nothing to do with me. I'll send him away to draw a new card.

Ha NewPuppy we had a chat about the spelling of 'definitely' which they both defiantly spell 'definately' Blush

Card from DT1 age 4 - mummy is cuddly and sleepy - Thanks love.... to be fair mummy is exhausted and comfort eats to retain sanity so he's not exactly wrong. OH did ask if I needed therapy after receiving it.

MumW · 26/03/2017 17:41

I've had some lovely homemade gifts over the years, including poems, lots of hand-drawn cards and handmade flowers.
This year I got books from DD1 and a card saying sorry she couldn't be here in person and a cake made by DD2. (I was banished from the kitchen all morning AND it was left clean and tidy)

CuppaSarah · 26/03/2017 17:42

DD made a card with a picture of me onto of a mountain crying, and her and ds at the bottom crying, because I'd left them at the bottom of the mountain. It's my favourite picture ever, even if it depicts such a tragic scene!

SleepFreeZone · 26/03/2017 17:44

Ha ha I can't wait to see what my two boys come up with once they start writing cards 🙊

WhooooAmI24601 · 26/03/2017 17:44

DS1 wrote in mine "No wonder Dad married you". I think it's genuinely the best sentence I've ever heard.

America and other countries have a day for mothers, But the British one is derived from mothering Sunday. The day you should return to your home/mother church.

Older children who worked away in domestic service or other jobs would return home for the church service, and would bring flowers/gifts/money back out of there wages for their mothers.

This crops up every year on MN

Allthebestnamesareused · 26/03/2017 18:11

On the radio yesterday they were discussing this subject. One lady tweeted that her son when 9 (now 30) sent her a card saying "to the best mum in the world apart from Chris Griffin's mum". Chris Griffin was his best friend at the time. Apparently she reminds him every year of this card Grin

GrainOfSalt · 26/03/2017 19:11

My present...

"Wow, DS you put on your shoes the first time I asked you"

"It's a treat for Mother's Day mum"

Topuptheglass · 26/03/2017 19:24

My ds wrote "you're the best tidier, I'm the best wrecker, you're the best cook, I'm the best eater. My most favourite person in this entire galaxy is you and all your sisters together forever"

I cried Blush
