To wonder why 'thin is in'?

DH and I were discussing this with a group of friends earlier today - why are all models now expected to be so thin?

Normally, nobody finds it attractive (obviously bar a few exceptions). The majority of men prefer at least some moderate feminine curves and the majority of females feel slightly sick looking at a really clinically underweight model. It's extremely damaging for these women who starve themselves to be in that profession and surely we'd all be more persuaded to buy stuff if the person modelling it looked happy and healthy...

I don't mean naturally skinny like some people who struggle to gain weight Envy. I mean really, really, anorexic thin like a supermodel.

Any theories?

We're in bra intervention territory now...

PetalMettle · 28/03/2017 20:30

Ha good point @lweji #thiswillnotendwell - was just trying to point out E on its own doesn't necessarily mean big boobs

bananafish81 · 28/03/2017 20:40

I was completely astonished when a bra fitter told me I was actually a DD

Cos in my head D cup plus was 'big boobs'

And I have very small baps, so how could I possibly be a DD?

As I now know, because the 28DD size I am is the same volume of boobage as the 34B that M&S said I was

I've a small frame, size 8, 5'8" and BMI of 18 - I've got a small back size and therefore my definitely -not -busty rack sounds a lot curvier than it actually is

PetalMettle · 28/03/2017 20:44

I make it actually less...34b = overbust measurement of 36, 28dd = overbust measurement of 33.
Ha at a size 8 in a 34 back, m and S really don't have a clue

roarityroar · 28/03/2017 21:08

whoooo thank you, that was the sort of answer I was looking for. I actually wanted to understand experiences of others

PetalMettle · 28/03/2017 21:33

I said that you could see my ribs and chest bones at a 14 in some shops a page ago. Confused

I would say that thin is not 'in' at the moment. It's all about the curves and young girls trying to look sexualised like a Kardashian/Jenner.

I hate the 'real women have curves' type comments; I'm naturally slim and couldn't get a big bum if I tried. I wish 'in' was still about hair styles and fashion, something that all women could achieve! The focus on the female body and looking sexy is getting a bit ridiculous
