Nigel Farage 'not apologising'

Farage has always been an idiot, but I think 'not apologising' in the face of blatant evidence that you are wrong is going to become very popular amongst all Trump acolytes and wannabes.

TBF - it is hard to identify potential terrorists coming in as refugees.

But...any action taken must be balanced with that action acting as a recruiting sergeant for terrorists - on all sides of the divide.

But being difficult is not the same as having no way of identifying them.

Sure, we can never be fully protected, including from car accidents or burglars. It's life.

If Trump was so concerned about the lives of his fellow Americans, there are many things he could do to protect them.

Such as tackling climate change.
Affordable Health care
Gun control
Education
Issues around maternal healthcare and reproductive rights.

Much more of a threat to American lives.

Exactly

Also, being a softie lefty liberal type, i also believe that any action you take to stop terrorists from entering must balance the risk of a terrorist attack, and the human suffering that would cause, with the human suffering that would be caused by refusing entry to refugees. We must decide what price is worth paying to completely shut down any risk. In my view we should except a certain amount of risk as if we turn our country into an isolationist, authoritarian state we become the cause of as much suffering as the terrorist acts we are trying to stop. This is not the sort of humanity I want to be a part of.

BiglyBadgers · 26/03/2017 12:57

I must also add that i have felt a very warm glow (not something I feel all that often recently) to find that the overwhelming response in the UK to the events of last week seems to have avoided knee jerk anti-terror ranting and (excepting the professional arseholes like farage) mostly been very thoughtful and calm. It has given me hope Smile

egosumquisum1 · 26/03/2017 12:59

Once you start asking people in charge what they would like to do, you can see authoritarianism coming out.

I bet Trump would love to do a lot more than he has said he wants to do. Or Trump and his backers.

First they came for the Muslims....

This passage from a book by a well known business man is interesting

"You can't con people, at least not for long. You can create excitement, you can do wonderful promotion and get all kinds of press, and you can throw in a little hyperbole. But if you don't deliver the goods, people will eventually catch on ...

I'd never understood how Jimmy Carter became president. The answer is that as poorly qualified as he was for the job, Jimmy Carter had the nerve, the guts, the balls, to ask for something extraordinary. That ability above all helped him get elected president.

But, then, of course, the American people caught on pretty quickly that Carter couldn't do the job, and he lost in a landslide when he ran for reelection.

And Jimmy Carter was qualified to be president. His lack of success was due to many factors, including his own mistakes. Some say that Carter was too principled to succeed.
