Should she just have worn it?

DD 5 is in a talent show in a few weeks time.

The girls are wearing tutus and the one boy in jogging bottoms.

DD has spoken up and has said that actually, she would rather wear joggers as she's not keen on tutus and other 'girly' clothes.

The TA who's organising all this has blown a gasket and has said that she won't look like all the other girls now and that she'll look different. Not only that, she now has to give everyone the choice.

DD is fine with not looking the same, but should I have just made her wear it for the sake of 3 minutes on stage?

Part of me thinks yes I should've. The other part thinks actually...this little girl has spoken up and she's got a point!

no needs it's sexist to say a particular costume is appropriate for a boy but not for a girl even when they are doing exactly the same dance.

Nobody is insisting on the boy wearing a tutu. The point is if he's allowed to wear something else the girls should be to.

And if he wants to wear a tutu he should be allowed to.

equality and human rights is all very well but these issues are being taken to ridiculous extremes. Just about to ride my motorcycle nude and not wearing a crash helmet just because I can??!!

Um, very bad example, very bad example.

Did you know that stuntwomen are not allowed to wear the protection gear male stuntment are allowed to wear, because it would be visible with the skimpy miniskirts and armless tops they have to wear?

If you wish to submit to sexism, then the likelihood that you will end up on your motorcycle nude is, in fact, much higher than if people would be sensible and respect women's human rights.

You want to groom a five year old girl for the kind of sexism that results in stuntwomen being made to do things almost naked that male stuntmen would wear protection gear for. That is what you espouse with your opinion.

Think long and hard about that.

why did she bother joining the Talent Contest with a team if she wasn't willing to be part of the dance troop ? I don't understand ?

She is willing to be part of the team. She is prepared to wear whatever has already been designated a suitable costume given another member of the group is allowed to wear it.
