Was Carrie Bradshaw BU?

So, there's an episode of Sex and the City where Carrie goes to a baby shower/ party (baby already born, just adults and cocktails).

Her friend makes her take off her shoes (Manolo, I think) even though she doesn't want to, and at the end of the night the shoes are missing.

Anyway, a few days later Carrie returns to drop the shoes she borrowed to go home in, and her friend offers to pay for them.

Carrie reveals that the shoes were $485 dollars (and this is like, 2002, so probably about £500 now) and the friend refuses to pay for them, offering $200 instead, and then saying that she shouldn't have to pay for Carrie's 'extravagant' lifestyle.

Carrie then gets really pissed off and creates a fake wedding registry for the shoes.

So, I was watching it the other night and I wanted to know what AIBU would make of it. Should the friend have paid for the shoes? Or was Carrie BU to expect five hundred quid shoes to be replaced?

I hate the show, I hate Carrie Bradshaw... Except for this episode. Totally sided with her, and considering I'm not going to have kids and I'm probably never going to get married, I've toyed with the idea of giving myself a "Me Shower" one day. ;)

Harriet, that scene is total cringe! 😵🚫

I loved SATC they were only a couple of years older than me and NYC looked so exciting. Ive visited afew times because of that show and its my favourite place. Carrie was my least favourite but i didnt hate her.

I wasnt struck on the whole Aiden phase or the Russian and i dearly wished she ended up single but happy.

I think my favourire people were Bitsy Vanmuffling and Bobby Fine h was so camp. I loved Bunny and Trey as well. It was a very funny show at times.

Its interesting how Charlotte hasnt done anything since compared to the other three.

Ps if people hated the show and Carrie Bradshaw how come you know so much about it? I turn off shows i hate.

MistressMerryWeather · 21/03/2017 05:04

The 'You have to forgive me' scene actually happens after Aiden and Carrie get back together.

Aiden kinda punishes her for getting a call from Big and taking it in her closet. He almost has an affair with the barmaid in his pub because of this.

"I DIAPERED YOUR DOG!"

I loved the show! I found Carrie massively annoying, but still loved the show.

Wasn't the taking shoes off rule to do with a wooden floor? I e heard about stilettos damaging wooden floors so I can understand that.

SWNBU. She didn't want to take her shoes off, and they were stolen. She should be reimbursed in full.

No, the hosts sister says it's because "the twins are always picking things up from the floor" watched too many times!

The mother happily registers for $100s if not $1000s worth of gifts but then has the cheek to lecture on extravagance!

Carrie was bu for not selling her shoes before attending the party and then reinvesting the money in a homeless charity.

goingonabearhunt1 · 21/03/2017 10:23

I hate Carrie (love Miranda!) but her friend was a dick.

As a pp said it's not about the shoes, its the fact her friend thought she was so much better than Carrie just because she was a mother. There was no need for that attitude.

The one that makes me cringe the most is the episode where Carrie has a go at Charlotte for not lending her the money for the downpayment on her apartment. Like it's Charlotte's fault that she spent all her money on shoes and has no savings. Angry

amusedbush · 21/03/2017 10:56

No, it was because the friends didn't want germs brought in on shoes in case their kids got sick.

EachandEveryone · 21/03/2017 15:30

Tatum O'Neil wasn't it?

I've just bought my friend a present for the new baby, and one for her shower last month, there was her wedding and hen the year before plus her 30th. If you times that by at least 40 that's been my life and here I am nearly 50 and no kids or bloke! I do get where Carrie was coming from.

Majorgoodwinschickenbeatstrump · 21/03/2017 16:24

To be fair I think she's being unreasonable- I wouldn't expect to keep my shoes on in someone else's house... I would find it rude if someone did it in mine.

Sorry if that's opened up a whole new AIBU debate of its very own Grin
