Neighbour 'stolen' my parcel

ShootingQuadrantids · 17/03/2017 17:04

I ordered a birthday gift from Amazon for my DS on the 4th March, this gave plenty of time for it to get delivered. His birthday is getting very close and the tracking system on Amazon still says not yet delivered. So, I've contacted the Markeplace seller, incidentally they've got 100% feedback, who tell me that it was delivered to my neighbour on the 9th March! The thing is we've received no delivery card to tell us that this was the case. After much email toing and froing the seller has contacted Hermes and gave me the name and number of the house where it was left (not an obvious choice as there's plenty of houses closer to me and not one that items have been left at before). I went over to the house, first time I'd been there, and they had no knowledge of it! The young man asked why it hadn't been put through the letter box! It's a rented house and I've never met this chap before. Now here's the thing the seller is telling me that it must have been stolen by the neighbour. Hermes are going to interview the delivery driver and he should have the GPS location if delivery. Got no gift can't contact Amazon that easily, what do I do now?! For context we have a safe place for delivery and like us our near neighbours take in for each other.

Hermes fuck up literally every parcel they deliver to me. Three times this year they've claimed something has been delivered in the evening 'to my porch'. Has never happened and normal parcel actually turns up a few days later.

Spam88 · 17/03/2017 19:02

Hermes has apparently attempted to deliver a parcel to me twice (today and yesterday) except I've been in and they haven't 👎 they're absolutely useless and I have no idea why any company uses them.

Sunnysky2016 · 17/03/2017 19:05

That's a weird response from Amazon. Last time this happened to me (and it had been delivered but the wrong house I later found out) they send out a replacement the next day?

BirdPerson · 17/03/2017 19:36

Someone mentioned twitter, if you can't get hold of Amazon definitely post something on twitter. Companies are usually very responsive on social media.

SquidgeyMidgey · 17/03/2017 19:37

My local Hermes man is great, the muppets from Yodel are another kettle of fish entirely and i have stopped buying from companies who use them.

Butteredparsnip1ps · 17/03/2017 19:56

Another one who has had a missing item (£100 coat) via Hermes. Ask for your money back OP. Hope the Birthday goes well

PutTheBunnyBackInTheBox · 17/03/2017 20:10

Oh God I agree! Parcels left with neighbours but no card through the door is their usual MO.

tillytown · 17/03/2017 20:23

When I saw the thread name, I thought it was going to be about me. On Monday a neighbour knocked on my door, waved a 'we missed you' card from Hermes at me, and asked for his parcel, but I don't have it. I don't know why the driver put my door number on the card, he didn't leave any parcels with me, and no one is responding to our emails. They suck.

Lunalovepud · 17/03/2017 20:25

It'll be hermes. Gp on Amazon live chat and open a case. Wait 48 hours, they'll contact the seller and in the end will most likely find in your favour and refund you. Job done. Smile

Polly2345 · 17/03/2017 20:28

Yodel have thrown parcels over my 8ft high fence before. They couldn't see what it might land on, on the other side. And it meant it was exposed if it rained.

mycatloveslego · 17/03/2017 20:32

Under the Consumer Rights Act, the retailer is responsible for the goods until you receive them. I'm sure Amazon are well aware of this but in the unlikely event they won't help reminding them of this should work.

whatcar · 17/03/2017 20:33

Hermes are the worst!

they sent me a email saying they were not going to deliver my package as they have already made 3 attempts to deliver.

strange thing was that I was in for all of the "attempts" and never heard anyone or received a card? I said I would check my CCTV to make sure they tried the right house & funny enough they agreed to deliver it that day Hmm

cantthinkofanythingwitty · 17/03/2017 20:34

I have just dealt with amazon over the phone. I entered my phone number on the website, got a call within 10 secs they were really helpful

PenCreed · 17/03/2017 20:36

Hermes left a parcel in a "safe place" for me today. On top of the recycling box that lives by our front door - not even behind it to try and be a bit more subtle. I'm relieved we live on a quiet street and no-one tried to nick it (they'd probably have given it back, it was a plant).

BhajiAllTheWay · 17/03/2017 21:34

Definitely Hermes...they leave parcels for us in the middle of the path, on the doorstep, balanced on the bin. Totally hopeless.

OracleofDelphi · 17/03/2017 21:48

We had this with Hermes through work. Adamant that parcel worth £200 was left by a blue door ... where they were delivering to doesn't have a blue door ! My supplier contacted them to advise this and eventually after much too-ing and fro-ing they come back with a signed Proof of Delivery . It was forged as no one who works in that building had that name .... I had to point out to them who would have signed for it, if as the alleged, no one was in Wink.... Was still on the back of the van - I suspect with the intention of being pinched !

enterthedragon · 17/03/2017 22:16

We were waiting for a delivery once, it didn't arrive so i phoned the company and they said that the driver had tried to deliver it at about midday but had got no answer, i said that was impossible because there were 2 of us in the lounge, 3 gas engineers in the house (1 in the hall, 1 in the kitchen, the other was upstairs) a 4th engineer was out on the drive, the porch door and front door was wide open as was the backdoor, somebody would have noticed a man trying to deliver a large parcel.

Driver probably saw there was nowhere to park (on account of the 3 gas company vans, our car, both neighbours cars, 3 cars outside the houses opposite) and just kept on driving.

pengymum · 17/03/2017 22:18

I've had this with various delivery companies! On one occasion, I was parked on drive of my sister's house waiting for delivery as the tracking said it was due to be delivered within the hour & I wanted to get & go home. Was waiting & waiting when up pops text saying parcel had been delivered!!! 😳
I phoned Amazon straight away and said I don't know where they'd delivered it but it wasn't to me or neighbours as I had been parked on drive for the past hour, with clear views of the only approach road. They arranged next day delivery of replacement straight away. 😅
Another time, parcel had been left behind my wheelie bins in pouring rain and no card left so I only found it when I went to put stuff in bin! Was ruined but got replacement.
Ordered China dinner service, boxes seemed intact but inside plates broken as not enough packing. Other times, tiny item in huge box with loads of bubble wrap/foam pellets!
Apparently sometimes delivery drivers don't have time to deliver but sign to say it has been done then go back in their own time and deliver so as not to get penalised!
I've only had one delivery disappear and it wasn't anything costly or 'desirable '! Rest appear sooner or later but not always in good condition.

228agreenend · 17/03/2017 22:19

Was walking home and saw a m and S delivery by someone's front door. I remember thinking that anyone could steal it.

pengymum · 17/03/2017 22:28

Just remembered when my husband took day off for delivery from Bathstore. He was working in front garden, saw the Bathstore van pull up outside. Thought they'd be delivering any minute so started to tidy away his tools so he could open the front doors ready.
After a few minutes, the driver's mate jumped out, took a photo of the road, jumped back in van and it promptly drove off! My husband thought they'd gone to turn van around and would be back as we live in a cul-de-sac but they didn't stop! Drove straight on and out of the road with my husband watching open mouthed in stupefaction! 😱
He got on phone to Bathstore and was informed that they hadn't been able to deliver as 'No parking!' 😳😳😳

seesensepeople · 17/03/2017 22:38

Contact Amazon. I have found them amazing - I moved house and forgot to update my details. When a parcel didn't arrive I contacted Amazon on Live Chat and no questions asked they arranged a replacement and presumably sorted out the original mess. It was entirely my fault but they took away all the stress.

Nutterfly · 18/03/2017 18:18

I also had trouble with Hermes via Amazon but with a collection (return of wrong order). They claimed twice that I wasn't in for the prearranged delivery even though it was from my work and I can see delivery drivers from my desk. They then didn't deliver it to Amazon once it was collected. Whole thing was a farce.
That said I did once have a neighbour nick something but my guess is that it's the delivery.

NootNoot · 18/03/2017 18:23

I've had exact same! My parcel was 'delivered' on Sunday to someone called 'Pawel'. I'm not Pawel, none of my neighbours are. No 'sorry we missed you' card. Sent Amazon a relatively curt email- replacement item arrived 2 days later.

ShootingQuadrantids · 20/03/2017 22:16

Thank you everyone for your replies and advice. Basically I've not had to do anything, but then again I've been so busy with DS birthday and work, the seller emailed me to say that he couldn't send a replacement as it was his last one but would reimburse me. Got an email from Amazon a short time later to say the this was the case!

Definitely Hermes - dreadful company - they actually admitted they did not deliver my parcel in the end - but I haven't got either the goods or my money as now more than 28 days and so need to sue! Agree why any one uses them I have no idea! I don't buy anything online if they don't send by Royal Mail now !!!!
