One of my dc has been corrupted by a friend and is insisting it's a sweet food stuff.

Not under my roof kiddo!

Sweet here. We call it 'poor knights' and you turn it into 'rich knights' if you serve it with whipped cream and jam

venusinscorpio · 17/03/2017 15:43

Savoury with salt and pepper. Fried mushrooms on the side sounds nice.

LordPercy · 17/03/2017 15:45

French toast is savoury in this house. Served up as part of a fry up drool 🐷

Essexmum69 · 17/03/2017 15:45

Standard argument in my house. The kids and I having eaten it many times at scout/guide camps for breakfast with bacon and sauce/ketchup would say savory, but DH puts icing sugar on his!

80sMum · 17/03/2017 15:47

Eggy Bread? Do you mean French Toast or is eggy bread different? French Toast is a sweet food, served with whipped unsalted butter and maple syrup.

Camomila · 17/03/2017 15:53

I make it with brioche loaf, call it French toast and have it with fruit and maple syrup so definitely sweet here!

TheFallenMadonna · 17/03/2017 15:56

Either.

CasperGutman · 17/03/2017 15:58

To me, French toast is a bit of an American thing. It's indisputably sweet as it's made with sugar and cinnamon as well as bread and eggs. I'd eat it for breakfast with fruit.

Eggs bread is definitely British - something my grandma would have known. It only has two ingredients (the obvious ones). I think of it as a savoury dish and always eat it with ketchup. I don't need anything else with it, but some bacon would be a good addition.

PUGaLUGS · 17/03/2017 16:00

Sweet here.

ThursdayLastWeek · 17/03/2017 16:03

It's designed to be both!
Eggy bread, bacon, ketchup and maple syrup mmmmmmmmmmmmmm

BillyButtfuck · 17/03/2017 16:15

I always make two slices, 1 with salt and 1 with sugar, sometimes a few bites have sugar and salt Wink

maddiemookins16mum · 17/03/2017 16:19

We always have it as savoury (with brown sauce and chipolatas for Saturday brunch). I have though made it sweet (using a brioche loaf) and adding maple syrup and strawberries when DD has a sleepover and I'm trying to impress (show off) to three 12 yesr olds.

TheMasterNotMargarita · 17/03/2017 16:22

Eggy bread is savoury.

Any sugary syrupy cinnamon type accompaniment turns it into something else.

Omlette with bacon yes.
Omlette with sugar no.

Rollonbedtime7pm · 17/03/2017 16:31

How have i never tried eggy bread with bacon?! makes weekend brunch plans

To the poster who mentioned 2 ingredients - what about the dash of whole milk? Grin

CaurnieBred · 17/03/2017 16:40

Savoury: I add tabasco and Worcester Sauce to my mix!

MimsyFluff · 17/03/2017 16:43

Will now be making this for dinner with bacon and beans Grin

Miniwookie · 17/03/2017 16:44

Sweet, with maple syrup and cinnamon. I haven't had it for ages and we have eggs in - I think that's my tea sorted...

Miniwookie · 17/03/2017 16:44

I accept it can be savoury though. I just prefer it sweet.

astormgivenflesh · 17/03/2017 16:49

My favourite comfort food - always with marmite def savoury!!

HoneyDragon · 17/03/2017 16:51

I'm bi-eggy bread.

Charley50 · 17/03/2017 16:54

Sweet here with honey or maple syrup.

RTKangaMummy · 17/03/2017 16:57

Eggy bread is my lunch of choice here ATM

With thinly spread marmite SmileSmileSmile

RTKangaMummy · 17/03/2017 16:57

Oh sorry forgot savoury here too Smile

LaurieMarlow · 17/03/2017 17:12

Savoury, with bacon. And HP if I'm lucky.

Chrisinthemorning · 17/03/2017 17:13

Eggy bread is savoury but French Toast is sweet. Both are made in the same way AFAIK
