Emcs at 35 weeks. Ds under a lamp for jaundice but not in special care. Bf on day 1 with lots of skin to skin . Weighed 5-7 at birth and 4-12 on discharge. . He is 2.6 now and no problems at all!! Met all milestones earlyish too!

Dontstopmovin · 10/03/2017 13:27

Flowers to you OP. My waters broke at 33 weeks and DS arrived by EMCS at exactly 34 weeks weighing 4lb 8oz. He needed a bit of help in SCBU but made amazing progress and we were allowed home after 3 weeks. He's now the most lively energetic amazing 15 month old you could meet and is currently cuddled up napping in my arms! I was terrified of the EMCS so I just took it one step at a time and didn't allow myself to think of anything beyond the moment I was in at that time. The staff were amazing and the EMCS was actually a very peaceful experience, the nurses in SCBU are angels and give you so much support and practical advice! Good luck, will be thinking of you Flowers

My daughter was delivered by section at 34 weeks exactly. My placenta wasn't working properly and they needed to get her out. She was in nicu/scbu for 3 weeks and a day (felt like longer at the time). She was healthy, just small. The only lasting effect was that she never got the hang of breastfeeding (she needed to either breast or bottle feed to be discharged and got the hang of bottles and that was it). She's now 2.5 and still petite but doing brilliantly. It's a scary time but it will soon be a distant memory.

teawamutu · 10/03/2017 14:10

Ds2 was born at 35+3, but only weighed 3lbs 5ozs due to iugr.

He was in scbu for three weeks, but only to get big enough to go home, he never had problems breathing and staff had no concerns about him.

Op was fine, I recovered very quickly.

It was a scary time but we were fine, and so will you be. Flowers

Girlwiththearabstrap · 10/03/2017 14:13

It's a shock having an early baby but you and baby will be ok! I didn't have a c section but I was induced at 35 weeks and my daughter came out big and healthy! Have you had steroid injections? I got some as a precaution but they said that baby lungs tend to be pretty well developed by then. Good luck Flowers Smile

BillSykesDog · 10/03/2017 14:15

My 34+5 twins. EMCS are fine and getting right little fatties at the mo, no complications. It's not ideal but they're a good size at that point.

LoupGarou · 10/03/2017 14:16

I had a crash section at 34 weeks, DS was absolutely fine and didn't even need any time in scbu. He is now three and in age 7 yr trousers, he's always been very tall for his age and met all milestones very early.

It is scary but it will be for the best Flowers

Chattycat78 · 10/03/2017 14:18

I had a planned c section at 35 weeks- 9 months ago because of growth issues. He is fast asleep on me as I type.

He was very small and went to scbu for 13 days but he was perfectly fine. Tube fed for a bit but I just expressed for him until he could breastfeed himself.

The section itself was calm, I was totally lucid and the recovery was actually fine. The hardest bit was being unable to lift my toddler for a few weeks.

Sixgeese · 10/03/2017 14:19

I had DS at 35 weeks, he was perfect and able to stay with me after he was born. He was discharged the next day.

He is now a tall almost 12 year old you would never realise he was 5pounds 6 at birth.

Crazycatladyloz82 · 10/03/2017 14:19

My DD was delivered at 35 weeks by csection as I was going to die as was she. She is 21 months old and thriving, has caught up and we don't correct her age anymore as she is just as advanced as any other 21 month old. The only advice i can give is get counselling if you struggle afterwards as it is a HUGE shock. I didn't for ages and was in complete denial about how traumatic it all was. It will be fine, hugs for you.

TheClacksAreDown · 10/03/2017 14:21

OP have you been given steroids to bring on lung development? Thinking seems to change around until when these should be given but certainly when I had a baby at your gestation I was given them. So ask asap if you haven't been.

TheClacksAreDown · 10/03/2017 14:22

I should add my baby was fine and whilst needed some help with jaundice and antibiotics, didn't have to go to special care and we were released after 5 days.

TiredMumToTwo · 10/03/2017 14:24

I've had two births - one pushing & one c section. Given the choice I would go c section every time, I expected to be flat on my back & recovering for weeks but it was fine - wobbly for a couple of days & then took it easy. Good luck, how exciting to know you baby will be with you in Athens next 24 hours!!

Chattycat78 · 10/03/2017 14:25

Me too- I got 2 steroid injections 12 hours apart to make sure his lungs had developed. You should definitely get that.

BigFatGoalie · 10/03/2017 14:28

I had exactly the same, went in for a routine scan only to be told to be back at 5:30am for an EMC at 35 weeks.

BEST EXPERIENCE! My DD was 5lbs, in SCBU for four days because of a chest infection, but otherwise all fine. I took all my pain killers, was up within hours and home in 5 days.
Honestly, everything was calm and fine, we had a music play list we were allowed to play in the theatre, it was absolutely fantastic!
Am almost 30 weeks with DD2, and honestly hoping for a similar experience this time.... Blush

fifipop185 · 10/03/2017 14:31

Hope everything goes smoothly for you OP. Let us know how you go.

Edballsisoneniftydancer · 10/03/2017 14:36

My daughter is having twins in a week or two: planned c section for 36 weeks....her consultant has been saying for weeks that they are in the 'green zone' ie totally viable and good to go. Same goes for you.

Really excited for you! Go you!!! All will be fine.

tinytemper66 · 10/03/2017 14:43

I had mine by emergency C at 34 weeks. The nurses/midwives were great.
He was ill but is now a strapping 22 year old.
Good luck.

SandysMam · 10/03/2017 14:44

Thank you everyone, can't tell you how much this is helping. Yes have had the steroids now, just waiting really! They gave me a tour of Scubu which was reassuring and were really lovely. Will try to keep you updated, may be a while but thank you again x

My son was born @ 34 weeks emergeny section. He spent 10 days in SCBU but he's absolutely fine now. He's nearly 7 Smile

Fooshufflewickbannanapants · 10/03/2017 14:57

My 34 weeker (emcs) is doing her gcses this year. 5lb and no scbu needed just came home when I did

WhamBamThankyouGeorge · 10/03/2017 15:05

I was born by c section at 33 weeks 39 years ago after my mother developed pre-eclampsia.
All went well and I am average height and above average intelligence.
My son's birthweight was almost three times my own!
Enjoy your baby.

FraterculaArctica · 10/03/2017 15:12

Have had a (crash) CS and a 35+2 weeker (different births). My 35 weeker needed a feeding tube for the first 13 days and a day of phototherapy for jaundice, but didn't have to go to NICU - we were in hospital for 10 days and she stayed beside me on the normal postnatal ward. Do you know why they've given you the steroids? My hospital said they didn't usually after 34 weeks (my waters went 24 hours before delivery so they had the chance to give me them).

Baby may need a bit of help to feed, but otherwise should be pretty robust and ready to go at 35 weeks. Good luck!

Spikeyball · 10/03/2017 15:13

Mine was a 35 weeker. I had a section planned for 38 weeks but went into labour at 35 so section was brought forward. He needed time in the heated crib but didn't need scbu. He was home after 5 days. The only possible related difficulty was he never managed to latch on so I expressed and then switched to bottle feeding. Others do manage though so I would push for lots of help if you want to breast feed but have any difficulties

RiversrunWoodville · 10/03/2017 15:13

dd1 was a 32 weeker and 3lb 4 home at 4lb with no oxygen or ventilator required thanks to steroids, sh only stayed in SCBU until we got her feeding. It was pre eclampsia, IUGR and placental abruption so much better "out than in" as DH in typical farmer style put it but he was right. Good luck and enjoy your lo op.
