To expect the toast to be buttered if you order scrambled eggs on toast?

THERE MUST BE BUTTER! And yes, I can tell the difference, don't try fobbing me off with some oily fish-derivative... I can believe it's not butter, actually.

MrTCakes · 10/03/2017 12:55

I like my toast buttered and moister than an oyster.

DeleteOrDecay · 10/03/2017 13:08

Our local asda cafe never puts butter on the kids ham or cheese sandwiches. They literally slap a bit of meat or cheese between two slices of naf bread and stick it in a bag. Drives me mad every time.

SecretWitch · 10/03/2017 13:09

Toast with a layer of butter then peanut butter is the food of the gods.

ClaryIsTheBest · 10/03/2017 13:11

Toast with a layer of butter then mayonnaise and peanut butter is the food of the gods. ;)

SherlockPotter · 10/03/2017 13:12

Won't scrambled eggs already have the sufficient moisture that the toast would need? With the addition of butter, the toast would be extra soggy!

SecretWitch · 10/03/2017 13:14

ClarylsTheBest I am patiently out waiting the hob fixer man to give that a whirl..

ClaryIsTheBest · 10/03/2017 13:21

secretwitch

the hob fixer man?

it's delicious. Peanutbutter first, then a layer of mayo (some people also mix the two. But I'm not a fan...). Either as a sandwich with great bread (I guess you could also use toast) or just as a breat topping.

I like it with some lettuce. DH adds bacon... Which is probably the epitome of decadence Grin

SecretWitch · 10/03/2017 13:26

Calryls Blush repair man...sorry recovering from brain injury and sometimes can't find the right word.

I can't wait to try this with lettuce!

mommybunny · 10/03/2017 13:27

Delete I'm not surprised a cafe doesn't put butter on kids' sandwiches - they don't want to take responsibility for dairy allergies. Most adults would be aware if they had a dairy allergy, but kids' allergies can present any time.

ClaryIsTheBest · 10/03/2017 13:31

mommy

but if they put meat and cheese on there... Then the butter wouldn't make a difference for the one with the dairy allergy, right?

witch ah, no, sorry. I was just confused (I was wondering if that's an English word I was supposed to know...)

I hope my recommendation doesn't disappoint you ;) I personally don't eat this with toast, btw. But with slightly darker bread with a crust...

mommybunny · 10/03/2017 13:37

True Clary, you're right. My bad.

Justwantcookies · 10/03/2017 14:17

Toast should have butter. Regardless of whatever else is on it too.

scampimom · 10/03/2017 14:42

everything should have butter.

ImGonnaSingTheDoomSongNow · 10/03/2017 14:55

All toast needs butter, OH eschews butter pre peanut butter ir nutella. He is clearly wrong as the toast is still dry underneath.

Scrambled eggs need buttered toast and to be cooked with butter, no milk though as that just dilutes the eggy goodness.

Not all sandwhiches need butter though, maily I use avocado instead or possibly hummus. But a simpler sandwhich like cheese and pickle requires butter.

Mostly all foods are improved by butter. Potatoes of any variety definitely.
Proper salted butter though, not the unsalted grossness DM has at her house.

florascotianew · 10/03/2017 15:19

Am I the only person here who vastly prefers toast (must be brown or wholemeal, granary or seedy) with olive oil on it, rather than butter?

Also agree with previous poster that sandwiches taste much nicer with mayonnaise-based or hummus-type fillings. No need for butter then!

BarbaraofSeville · 10/03/2017 15:22

flora

When people were mentioning tomatoes upthread, I was thinking about the Spanish way to do it, with slices of crusty bread with tomatoes, salt and olive oil on them. Yum!

I would still prefer butter for beans or eggs though.

florascotianew · 10/03/2017 15:25

Thanks, Barbara! I was forgetting about Spanish and (I think) Italian snacks ....

SuperFlyHigh · 10/03/2017 15:27

For me personally I use butter whilst making scrambled eggs and see no need to butter the toast...

However in a cafe I probably would want it buttered!

SomewhatIdiosyncratic · 10/03/2017 16:07

I have to be careful about what dairy I eat, but thank goodness the fat content of butter is so high that I can still devour it with glee and not suffer.

I can absolutely tell if my beans on toast has been deprived of its fundamental right to have the toast slathered in butter prior to being permeated with rich beany goodness.

Dry toast is an abomination.
(Somehow I married a butter hating heathen Confused)

supercue · 10/03/2017 17:17

Dry bread and water was a punishment in days of old.

Add some butter and it becomes a snack.

Peanut butter and butter? WTAF?

And moist. Toast. Baked potatoes. Your filling/topping should be enough.

BillyButtfuck · 10/03/2017 20:32

DH put (and then melted in) butter on his rice this evening.

nakedscientist · 11/03/2017 12:37

Death.... "They often serve it butter side down for some reason."

What in the name of MN do you mean? Is this a thing? I have never, ever checked the other side of the bread! Is there an under-bread world I have been missing out on?

BoreOfWhabylon · 11/03/2017 12:45

The only time toast does not need to be slathered in butter is if it is slathered in delicious real beef dripping from a real beef roast.

The only time bread is not enhanced by butter is if it is slathered in the aforemention real beef dripping or is fried in bacon fat.
